Not impressed - Edit
The highlight of the Ethiopian cuisine for me is injera. This place only had injera chips - ugh what now?
Read moreThe platters with traditional looking injera that I saw in the other reviews are no longer available. So I ordered one of the bowls which ended up being a weird mishmash of flavors that I am sure would have tasted much nicer if the bowl items were offered on an injera so you could savor them individually.
Some bowl components were way too salty for me, and since everything ended up mixed in the bowl, the whole bowl ended up being too salty. Could use less oil as well.
On top of all this, some other spot in the food court was grilling fish. I can’t say I enjoyed eating my food having to smell that…it was too cold and too dark to go sit outside. Not Ras’ fault of course but it didn’t add to the experience.
I was really exited to try this spot because Ethiopian is one of my favorite cuisines but it left much to be desired. It’s the only fully vegan option in the area as of the moment so I may visit again, but I doubt it. I don’t even think I want to go to the Brooklyn location either, would rather go to Bunna Cafe.
Well, I’m officially a grumpy New Yorker now I guess…
Pros: All vegan
Cons: Tiny menu, No real injera, Too salty

First ethiopian food experience was incredible! - Edit
if I could give this place more than five stars, I would first time having Ethiopian food, and it did not disappoint, and everybody was amazing with all sorts of different flavors that are very good by themselves, and even better together, each by doing something different! If you're looking for something to eat, whether you're vegan or not, this is the place to go!!

Ethiopian vegan amazing food - Edit
Place is inside the food court of Chelsea pier. Nice little place. 100% plant based. Ethiopian delicious food. Had a couple of entries and a side of guac. Their seitan was the bomb but everything was really good really. Delicious marinated tofu and love their fried crispy sponge bread.

It was all so good - Edit
The nourish & flourish bowl was amazing. I loved all the veggies and seitan and the drizzle of spicy sauce with injera crumbles, such a great combo of textures and flavors.

Exceptional! - Edit
Having previously visited their original restaurant on Franklin Avenue, I was curious to see how the same exceptional quality would translate to their new location in a food hall. I was not disappointed. The geniuses behind the brand clearly know what they're doing, as the food and overall experience were just as outstanding as before, despite the different set up. I highly recommend checking out their new location for a quick grab. Definitely the best vegan restaurant in the city!

On the waterfront - Edit
This place is located in the Market 57 foodcourt on Pier 57 in Hudson River Park, right by Little Island and the Highline. The food here is excellent, healthy and delicious. I tried the Lugano Bowl and Mac&Cheese; they only have a few offerings thus far (it opened last week), but the owner says more will come.
Read moreUnlike Ras's more elegant Brooklyn flagship restaurant, this one has a foodcourt flair--you order at the counter, grab a place to sit and eat, with plastic forks, cardboard bowls, etc. But for a foodcourt venue, this place is topnotch, certainly the best vegan food in the area (esp. now that Pia has closed).
Pros: Delicious food, healthy, relaxed atmosphere, cool place to visit
Cons: Not for elegant dining
