Great vegan ramen - Edit
Their vegan ramen is great! They also have mushroom buns sometimes that I think are vegan if you ask for no mayonnaise.

Moldy tofu with takeout - Edit
Used to love Kuro Shiro, and they were my go-to place for ramen in New Haven.
Read moreThe vegan tantanmen is delicious. They make a cashew broth and it's so rich, creamy, and nutty (combined with the sesame). The vegan spicy miso lacks in flavor, it's very basic. I wanted to try the vegan shoyumen at some point but I won't be going back.
My boyfriend went out to eat there with his friends and brought me home the vegan tantanmen for dinner. It was late by the time he got home, so I saved it for the day after.
Opening the container of ramen, I immediately saw that my tofu was blue and moldy (and the noodles where the tofu was touching). It was incredibly disheartening and disappointing, as this was freshly made the day before.
I called them and the guy that picked up was extremely rude, dismissive, and disbelieving. Refused to offer any compensation and insisted that I had to drive there with a receipt and wouldn't look it up in the system, wouldn't accept a bank statement of the bill, or even a photo of the receipt. As my boyfriend went with friends, his friend in Naugatuck paid the bill and had the physical receipt (we're in Ansonia).
To get ANY compensation (if that) they told us to drive to Naugatuck to get the receipt (20 min), then drive to New Haven (45 min), then drive back home (30 min). The guy on the phone kept fighting with me, wouldn't let me speak to his boss, kept telling me his boss was too busy to talk to me, and hung up on me. I tried calling back, just for him to immediately hang up on me without a word.
I didn't end up going back, and just made a new batch of noodles at home because the broth was packaged separately from the ramen and tofu.
2 stars because it's great they have vegan options.
Pros: Vegan options, Good value
Cons: Awful staff, Lacking professionalism

This isn’t moldy tofu. The blue spots are from where it touched some purple vegetable, maybe purple cabbage, or perhaps those micro greens. You can buy a purple cabbage and you will see it dyes tofu blue.
Read moretarayoon
There was no purple cabbage in the bowl, and there were spots of mold/discoloration that didn’t touch anything (not pictured). Even if that were the case, their response to me was horrific and not how you treat a customer.

Deliciousness - Edit
After walking around New Haven on a chilly day, this was the perfect place to stop for delicious ramen. Both dishes were very flavorful and so so delightful. I will definitely return.

Great vegan options - Edit
Both the vegan and non vegans in our family were very happy with our meal. There were vegan options for both appetizers and three vegan ramen bowls. All four in our party were pleased with both quick, courteous service and excellent food. We will be back soon!

Delicious ramen - Edit
My husband and I each tried their two vegan ramen dishes and they were delicious. The veggie gyoza was also tasty. We stopped by on our way to New York and this place is conveniently right off of 95.
