4.5/5 really good mara! - Edit
i love mara and this place for sure hit the spot. they use a more peanutty flavor broth and it’s very savory and tasty. if you ask for the vegetable broth it is vegan (채수로 만들어주세요) . the level 3 spice was just right for me but i might venture to try the 4 next time. edit: level 4 is too much spice with not good flavor. stick to 3. i recommend mara ban or mara shanguo (마라반, 마라샹궈)
Read morethey have lots of options for tofu, and good veggies and noodles as well. the fried mushroom dish was SO good and despite the sauce stayed crunchy the whole time. must be eaten with the chili sauce! such a good combo.

Ask for vegetable broth 채수 - Edit
This Maratang restaurant chain can make your order vegan if you ask for vegetable broth (chaesu 채수) instead of the usual animal-based broth. It works like the other maratang restaurants in that you choose the ingredients yourself, select cooking method as well as spice level at the counter, and pay according to the weight of your ingredients.
Read moreBesides Malatang (마라탕), Malaban (마라탕) and Malaxiangguo (마라샹궈), they have some other veggie-friendly options on the menu, e.g. mushrooms sweet-and-sour (버섯꿔바오로우), eohyang eggplant (어향가지) and eggplant-potato-bellpepper (지삼선). I'd suggest confirming that they don't use oyster sauce when ordering.
If you order Malatang, spice level 1 comes with a creamy yellowish broth (made with peanuts?) that tastes nutty and hearty. Spice level 2 was medium spicy for me, but I have to say I preferred the flavor of level 1 much better. Spice level 3 and 4 are much more spicy.
The mushroom sweet-and-sour dish is crispy but veeery sour.
Prices depend on each individual order. For example, you can get a portion of vegan Malatang for 8000 KRW, but Malaxiangguo requires ordering a larger portion and is thus more expensive.
The restaurant is located near Seoul University Station, right by exit 2. The casual restaurant is on the 2nd floor, toilets are one staircase higher. There is no elevator.
Pros: good options, taste ok
