The food is always good. I have loved everything I’ve tried. The vegan shrimp is delicious. While I would love more options, I like that they really focus in on what they have and make those items spectacular.

Took my mom, wife and friend there for lunch today & it was great. I hadn't been since the year they opened - their menu has really expanded! Mom and I had the shrimp po'boys and they were delicious (and the shrimp looked & chewed so much like real shrimp I actually checked to make sure everything is plant based... so I guess that's a warning for anyone weirded out by that.) We had the cheesecake with peanut butter drizzle & it was mouth watering good. Many great choices & all of the people were very nice. We recommend!

Read moreMy (vegan) husband and I ate here yesterday around lunch time. We asked for recommendations from the staff and ended up getting the chicken burger and what was like…a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw.
Both were SO good! I personally liked the chicken sandwich more. The batter that was used; the pepper and salt aspect was JUST perfect!
I am sad I didn’t get to try any desserts, but I’m sure those are also amazing!!

I loved my barbecue plate. It was fun to choose side dishes. Google navigation takes you close but you can find it on the far side of Boulevard plaza, under the billboard.

The NC BBQ pulled pork was the best vegan pulled pork I've had by far. The kale Caesar was also great. The crunchy chickpeas in the salad were bomb.

We didn't think we'd be able to get true Carolina BBQ now that we're vegan. But you can, right here! Who needs pulled pork when you can have BBQ pulled seitan (guessing that's what they used)? Mandatory accompanying coleslaw was excellent. As was the cornbread.

Tasty Vegan Soul Food - Hope this one sticks - Edit
this location has been at least 3 vegan restaurants in the last few years. This one was a slower roll out; the food is good (although I thought the other 2 incarnations were pretty good too), and they're open for lunch most weekdays and a little later toward the end of the week and weekend.
Read moreI've been probably once a week, and I find myself going back to the kale salad again and again. Their fried chikn is good, and the shrimp po boy was tasty too. I was a little underwhelmed by the "plates"; you're probably better off with a sandwich. It's nice that they support other local vegan businesses (taylor street, dee's) with their desserts. The selection rotates regularly.
My only wish is that they had a few more slightly healthy options. I know it's soul food. But the greens were not my favorite, which leaves only the kale salad. I try to frequent vegan restaurants and businesses whenever I can, but I do wish there were one additional salad option on the menu. Just some food for thought. Otherwise, go!

We just checked out of our hotel and were looking for some vegan restaurants. We found this place on Happy Cow and weren’t disappointed! I got the NC BBQ sandwich, kale salad, and vegan cheesecake with caramel. Absolutely amazing!

Made a special trip to this restaurant based on reviews and glad we did! Great menu, and the lovely young lady at the counter was so friendly and patient describing the items before we could decide. Nice outdoor patio. I had the Carolina BBQ plate with mac n cheese, plus sweet potato waffle fries. And sweet tea, cuz we're in the South! Portion was very large.

I got the popcorn shrimp entree with cornbread and fries, and my partner got the NC BBQ sandwich. The shrimp was to die for, crispy outside & delicious. The BBQ was sweet too, kind of like honey BBQ.

One of the best vegan soul food spots I’ve ever had. Soooo delicious! We tried soul mac, cornbread, chicken drumstix, kind chicken sandwich, and cheese fries. Sooo soo good! Oh and the cheesecake and brownies. Please go! So tasty. There is a small shop to buy tees and other cute items to continue supporting. Outdoor seating available -surrounded by plants and beautiful murals

We got the poboy, kale salad, Mac n cheese, and fries.
We weren't a fan of the Mac n cheese, but it wasn't that bad. It tasted like Mac n cheese. It was very dry, which makes me think we got the end of a batch or something. It was good enough to try again.
The kale salad was really good. REALLY. GOOD. I was expecting a meh kinda salad because it seems really simple. I was so wrong! The dressing was subtle but super tasty and the chickpeas on top were the perfect compliment. I don't even really like chickpeas. That's how good it was.
The fries were good, almost anyone will like these. They had just enough spice to not be boring but not enough to take away from any dish you have them with. Not too salty either.
The poboy. Holly Molly! Genuinely. If you have someone who is on the fence about veganism or vegetarianism, take them here and buy them a shrimp poboy. Lives will change. I guarantee it. This is hands down the best sandwich I've had in years.
The sauce is good, they were generous with the fresh veggies, and the coleslaw (which I was a little hesitant about because I'm not a fan of most coleslaw) is exactly what the sandwich needs.
It's perfect. It's a perfect sandwich. I can't say enough about it. It's comfort food, it's filling without being heavy. Seriously. Eat it! Put it in your body, you can thank me later.
Besides the food, it's genuinely a place I would feel good giving my money too.
They have an app to order from that is very intuitive and simple to use. It is very easy to customize your order and they have a loyalty program!
The workers were very nice and helpful when I picked up my food and the restaurant was clean.
They also had compostable forks and what looked to be compostable containers. Which is so nice to see. My other container was plastic, but was recyclable.
The general atmosphere at the restaurant is very laid back and happy. There were several people eating outside when I got my food, and it genuinely seems like a place you would want to do that. They have quite a few colorful little tables to sit at. Most of the outside seating is covered. They back up to some trees, and the whole thing is very photogenic. They also had indoor seating.
Overall, I wish I didn't live so far away. I don't get out this way very often, which is a shame.

Highly recommend this soul food! The "soul rolls" in particular are incredible. We ordered a few "plates" and split them up among our group, so we could all try a little of everything.

GLUTEN FREE VEGAN MAC & CHEESE, BBQ DRUMSTIX & FRIED SHRIMP. Need I say more? My vegetarian cheese fiend partner didn’t miss the dairy at all and every item was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be coming back next time we’re in Durham.

Staff were attentive to the line of folks; moreover, it was worth the wait. The staff offered helpful suggestions, noted which foods had nuts, and even asked about allergies. The time and attention they took with every customer was much appreciated.
