Good vegan options - Edit
Cute cafe, nice service, loved the burger and had an amazing ginger crunch raw slice. They claim to have the best vegan scones in the world but were sold out the arvo I was there.

expensive - Edit
We ordered the nachos for $14 and a medium salad for $10. Both tiny plates, tasty but not worth it

vegan breakfast - Edit
I went there for a late breakfast (11 am) and it was well-attended. Lovely atmosphere and the staff was nice. I had a whole meal scone with raspberry jam and a turmeric latte. The scones size was really big and quite moist which I obviously liked :)

Pros: location, many vegan options , sweet and savoury
Cons: scone and latte were a bit too sweet for my taste

Nice and lots of options - Edit
I had the mushroom burger. It was essentially just a medium sized flat mushroom with salad on a bun. However it tasted really good, I believe it was the salad dressing and the chapatti bun, the mushroom was almost superfluous. There were lots of other tasty looking options and cakes.

GO THERE! - Edit
If you are looking for delicious, healthy food in a cosy, friendly atmosphere, you don't need to look further than Potpourri Vegetarian Cafe. We ate the pizza and lasagna with salad. Both were really tasty, fresh, and healthy. We also had the gluten-free date scone and the birdseed slice. Yum!!!
Read moreThe staff are delightfully friendly, the range of food is excellent & the prices are reasonable. 10/10.

No hot apple pie - Edit
Had hot apple pie on my mind. Not here. No fruit pies. They had some slices though but didn't feel like a slice. Nothing that could be confirmed to not have onion and garlic so walked over to Countdown.

Not much for vegans - Edit
My partner and I came here for lunch. Selection was mostly lacto-ovo vegetarian with only a few vegan options. Even the vegan ones were not very inviting. The salad selection was boring as well and dairy/egg-heavy. I got the veggie pie with three salads (shredded carrots, cabbage slaw, and soy wheatberries). They were just OK, passable for a first-timer but I probably wouldn't order them again if given the chance. The lack of vegan protein was a bit mind-boggling. No tofu, no beans, nada. Only saving grace was the date scones.

Potpouri Vegan Friendly? - Edit
Owned and operated by meat eaters and located on the tourist promenade that leads from Dunedin's "wedding cake" railway station to the Octagon, this cafe/restaraunt is definitely one I would recommend visiting after considering the other options that are available in town.
Read moreThe food is a homely blend of salads, egg, cheese and butter saturated baking (excluding the vegan date scone). You can also choose from a selection of main dishes (priced between 8$ - 14$), although, a lot of the mains taste very similar, they have a good mexican bean pie at times.
The cafe has a pleasant atmosphere, expensive coffee, environmentally unfriendly take-away utensiles and packaging. Sometimes, it closes around 3 pm.
Pros: Convenient for cruise ship tourists, nice enough interior
Cons: not run by vegetarians, quite a stale menu, a bit pricey for what you get

WEll worth a visit - Edit
I came here in February, when the new owners had re-opened, and had a really good experience. Their muffins (vegan) were some of the best I'd ever had, and most of the mains hit the spot as well. Really nice sandwiches and falafel, and most things available vegan. Everyone very friendly, nice surroundings, and good service. I was very impressed and would visit again.

Not friendly and relaxed anymore - Edit
This cafe has changed hands at least twice in the last few years. It has been refurbished, and looks much more like a conventional cafe than it used to. It is still a vegetarian cafe, but unfortunately, the friendly and relaxed atmosphere seems to have gone. I visited in late 2008, and had very abrupt service from someone I assumed must be a staff member. I found out later that it was the owner.

Interesting comments..not!
Read moreWe offer an excellent service to vegetarians and people should remember that sometimes the customer is not always right and some can be downright rude!
Luckily, most are not and are nice people that come to enjoy the good food we continue to offer.
The cafe came close to closing down as it was keeping up with the market and looked tired and unclean.
Our valuable customers now tell us it is back on track.
The moaners and groaners are quite welcome to go elswhere so we can concentrate on the happy people.
