This gem of a venue is tragically closing after 10 years on September 10th, 2022. I was lucky enough to visit the island in July 2022 and got the vegan BLT and the vegan grilled cheese — both terrific. Best vegan sandwiches on the island. Get to Poseidon’s before they close permanently!!

A terrific little Deli & Gourmet food/wine shop for everyone. Best of all though, it offers several great quality options for vegetarians and vegans. I had the Tempeh Rueben sandwich and it was really, really good. I also had vegan cookies and bought a few grocery items.

The staff are really friendly & the vegan food options are stellar! They have all sorts of special cooking ingredients that I cant even find at WholeFoods.... Saffron!!, local mead & spritzers.... had the vegan BLT with tempeh & potato salad.... so yummy!

We got the grilled cheese with tempeh bacon and it was very yummy! The pantry area had more vegan snacks and drinks that looked good. We bought vegan peanut butter and chocolate cookies that were tasty.

Food was pretty average, I ordered a grilled cheese on gf vegan bread and it ended up being 9 dollars! Small too, and with no side 😬 However, the owner is super kind and really willing to accommodate my mom and I. Keep in mind that there will probably be more options in the summer, as that is the tourist season.

Local Treasure - Edit
Poseidon Cafe was my Chincoteague food refuge while visiting the area on a business trip for three weeks. What a local treasure! The grocery selection is impressive with several of my favorite vegan and gluten free foods available. The deli selections I tried were delicious and nutritious. I especially liked the vegan potato salad. Also, Poseidon Cafe does stock and make sandwiches with bread that is both gluten free and vegan (no dairy or eggs). And best of all, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you, Poseidon Cafe.

“Vegan” sandwiches NOT vegan - Edit
I was excited to try this place because of their ‘vegan’ sandwiches, however when I asked the manager (owner?) which breads were vegan I was told “none, because the ones they made didn’t taste as good as their gluten free bread.” Whatever that means. It is so unacceptable to me to advertise as vegan and NOT be vegan. I got bad vibes from this place, probably won’t return.

( EDIT: We now use a VEGAN and GF bread that we are very happy with, so all of our breads are vegan! ) I am so sorry for the misunderstanding and the bad vibes! Our breads are all vegan EXCEPT the gluten-free bread we use (which contains egg). Would love it if you would give us another chance. As a general rule, we think there are actually really GOOD vibes floating around the place. :)

I can't believe this place exists, and I am so happy it does. There is a whole section of the menu with vegetarian sandwiches, many of which can be made vegan with veganaise or a vinaigrette. There was also a vegan soup of the day and vegan sides. The store has house made hummus, olives, veganaise, fresh bread, and lots of tapenades to stock up on if you are camping or picnicking. They can also serve the sandwiches on gluten free bread on request, and there is a gluten free section of crackers, bread, and other snacks at the store. Beer and wine are also available for to-go. What a great find!
