An Amazing Addition To The Vegan Scene!

I finally got around to trying Porter House yesterday, and I was not disappointed. The place was cozy, the staff SUPER helpful, and their food was DELICIOUS! I'm not a beer guy, but if you love beer than this place is for you!

Definitely be sure to check it out if you visit TO!

Pros: Great Staff, Delicious Food, Cozy Space

Cons: Not Cheap

Great place

A very creative menu and a good selection of beers. you will actually get to try some interesting stuff! The Sheppard's pie I had was very good. went there on my birthday and will definitely go again.

disappointed

I think they were trying too hard. I ordered the ploughman's lunch and it was extremely underwhelming--breaded and fried fennel bulb, a miserly smear of miso, one slice of apple, and stale bread. I had expected a platter of "meat" and "cheese", or at least "seasonal fruit and veg" plural. The beer selection was good. Not recommended.

That was fun

We certainly enjoyed our visit to the Porter House and will go again. we shared the beer battered potato dumplings which were good. I had the yuba sandwich for the main and quite enjoyed it. The food is definitely just for every now and then since it is very heavy comfort food. The atmosphere was very conductive to conversation and the staff were very helpful in helping us choose just the right beer. The beer is excellent. A good time had by all.

Pros: Great comfort food, Great beer, Helpful staff

More Restaurant than Pub

Came here for the first time last week. It was a long wait. It's a fairly small place, and it was Saturday night. We waited at least 45 minutes for a table - at another pub. I hesitate to call this place a Pub. Aside from the beers, which are plentiful, it looked nothing like a Pub. It was a more of a bistro, small restaurant. The food was solid, but nothing exceptional. I found the menu interesting, but hardly earth shattering. No real dessert offerings was disappointing (only 1, which didn't interest). On the whole, I wouldn't rush out of my way to come back, though it is certainly good enough.

Cons: Long wait times

Delicious British pub food and beers

A step above pub food, this all-vegan eatery has been quite popular in its opening days. Without them accepting reservations, it can be difficult to plan a trip here. I first tried to stop by on a Saturday evening at 6pm, but was told it was a 45 minute wait (I ended up at This End Up instead which was fabulous).. I ended up here on a Sunday right after they opened at 5pm and was happily greeted by the server. Our food (the yuba sandwich and lentil ale pie) came super fast, it felt like under 5 minutes. We had to wait longer for the lentil ale pie to cool down so we could eat it, it was probably directly from the oven. The portions were generous and delicious. The beer selection was excellent with excellent selections on draft. The pudding for dessert was the British pudding, and perfect for sharing.

I recommend checking this place out but I don't know how often I will come back. The menu doesn't hold the repeat effect for me.

I think I am still sore that this resto caused Hot Beans to close, which is hand's down my favourite place to grab vegan eats in Toronto. It is run by the same owner and he couldn't manage both restos at the same time. I say bring the burritos to Porter House!!

Pros: delicious, good beers

Cons: no reservations accepted

Great Vegan Comfort Food

It is so amazing to see how popular vegan eating has become; being completely packed after only being open 2 weeks is crazy. Since they do not currently take reservations we arrived at 5:15pm (they open at 5) and got the last available table. Being a small place with approx 30 seats made for a packed house. The seats we were left with were right beside the door, the curtain that was hung in front of the door did help break the wind but with people constantly coming in (and being added to the ever growing wait list and sent away) it made for a very cold supper.
We started with the Bread and Preserves which for $14 was slightly underwhelming. Everything had good flavour but the portions were very, very small. I had the Lentil and Ale Pie which came with coleslaw and a salad of bitter greens. Everything was delicious, the pie is huge and the salads are very simple yet tasty. My husband had the BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich and fries, portions again were great, the sandwich was amazing and the fries taste like the fries from Swiss Chalet aka awesome. We “chose” the Bread Pudding for desert (there is only one option for dessert) and were not disappointed. It was simple and yummy and perfect for sharing.
For drinks I tried the West Ave Cider which was just ok, but had to order a Pommies Cider because it’s my favourite.
Considering the restaurant was slammed from the time the opened the doors the wait staff was amazing, they were fast, efficient and very friendly. All of the food came out in good time and everything was put together well and tasted great. Overall I would definitely recommend checking this place out…if you can get in!
