Quality depends on what you order - Edit
The tofu curry needed a larger sauce to rice ratio, edamame would have benefitted from salt flakes and the spring rolls needed a dipping sauce!
Read moreThe tofu with chilli sauce though was really good. The staff were very helpful even though it was so busy and with great prices. Would return but for the tofu chilli!!!

Simple and tasty - Edit
They had great, clearly marked options. I enjoyed the tofu chilli don with a seaweed salad. The prices were very reasonable (cash only) with simple, efficient service.

Affordable Tasty Food - Edit
As other reviewers have noted there aren't a huge number of vegan items on the menu. However service is fast and importantly the food is very affordable (likely why it's often very busy). Given the location, it seems almost unbelievable how good value the food is.

Great prices and delicious food - Edit
Even though this place only has a few vegan dishes, I love it and will always come back. Their Japanese food is so good, the tofu is always perfect and the prices are amazing (think we paid about £25 for two mains and three sides). Definitely try the yubamaki side, never had anything like it anywhere else.

Fantastic asian food on a budget. - Edit
A busy, slightly shabby place but when you look at the prices and experience the quality of the food you'll find it impossible to complain. It's BYOB too so you'll also be saving on drinks! The food is simple but effective, noodle and rice bowls served with tofu (or meat), and comes in impressive potions especially for the price. this place Idea for a cheap tasty meal out with vegans and non-vegans alike.

Good prices - Edit
Mains are all under £8 and sides around £3-£4 in Sep 2022, which is just great. Tried a tofu sesame donburi bowl which was very simple but so good and filling. Will definitely come back. Menu clearly labelled and they differentiate between vegetarian and vegan.

£7 something for a large bowl of rice and tofu and starters are only £3.50 or so. The food came out quickly, there is plenty of it, and the rice is cooked well😄

I go back again and again - Edit
Great cheap Japanese food. I always go for the tofu chilli don, the other options are good too but chilli don is my favourite. Sides: I recommend the edamame spring rolls (which are not on the menu but are on the wall) and yubamaki always good too.

Most of the vegan options just substitute the meat for tofu, but they do taste great.

Avoid if you’re strictly vegan! - Edit
I need to edit my review after I’ve had the last box of my takeaway (I bought a few dishes back). Sadly there were some bits of meat in my tofu dish. Unfortunately, I had put it in my mouth to learn this… As I investigated more, there were even a few more meat bits!! They obviously did not cook veggie dishes separately and did not even rinse the pan, otherwise, this would not have happened.
Read moreMy original review is as below:
A popular local Japanese restaurant that has many veggie options made with tofu. I’ve tried a couple of Tofu dishes with different sauces. The taste is okay, not great but not disappointing. The Yakisoba contains oysters sauce, which the staff kindly informed me when ordered so I didn’t get it.

Yubamaki - Edit
You need to try Yubamaki, this is the best food in Brighton, I think it's deep fried tofu & veg in tofu skin & it's so damn tasty. I usually have some sort of Tofu & Rice dish as well & for the money it's cheap, quick & tasty - very affordable fast food, so not really a restaurant, but great for grabbing something in a rush.

Pompoko has always been one of my favourites. Although their menu never changes, the options never get old. The Sesame Tofu Don is one of my all-time favourite dishes and costs less than £6.

Bargain Japanese food, the Donburi bowls are large and very filling for a very good price and there are some good vegan sides like the spring rolls, miso and Yubamaki: vegetable stuffed tofu rolls.
