Alright Chinese food with mock substitute

Was in Chinatown and went here for dinner and it was alright.

The place is right at the center of Chinatown in London with quite a lot of seating on two different floors. Wasn't a problem for us (2 people) to get a table without reservation on a Monday evening. The restaurant offers different vegetables dishes with tofu or vegan substitutes like mock chicken/duck. I had the 503 dish with additional rice and it was good. The mock chicken was good but not my favourite but the bean sauce was really delicious.

What brings it down for me was that the allergies wasn't clearly marked and I wasn't sure what was vegan or vegetarian and got the impression that the staff didn't know completely, so better to double check before ordering!

Pretty good

The menu had vegetarian options labeled and you had to cross reference with an allergen menu to figure out what was vegan which wasn't ideal. We felt a little bit rushed as we were asked over and over if we were ready to order when we had had barely any time with the menu. We opted for the vegetarian starter platter and the mock duck with black bean sauce and jasmine rice which was a perfect amount of food.

Pros: Mock meats, Tofu

Cons: Vegan options not clearly labelled

There was a small section of around 10 dishes that were vegan. Really great tasting and lots of variety, will be going again

Best meal ever

This place is one of my favorite restaurants ever. It was so great, it will be one of these places I will exactly remember in 10 years and think about how wonderful the food was.
There are plenty vegetarian options on the menu, most of them vegan, staff can tell you more about it. From the outside it looks very small, but it's big inside. I had dumplings and mock chicken in a bean sauce and this was literally the best mock chicken I ever had. Everything was delicious! Outside was already crowded, but we got a seat inside directly without a reservation.

Awesome mock chicken

Badly labeled and slightly chaotic menu. Service was ok.

The rice needs to be ordered additionally and is charged separately.
It's not super cheap but I don't think it was overpriced.

The mock chicken sweet sour was amazing. Pretty much indistinguishable from real chicken imho. Would definitely come here again.

Pros: Mock chicken

Cons: Busy street

Nice food, mediocre service

The food was quite nice and had authentic flavors. However, we found hair in two separate dishes, repeatedly ordered rice that never arrived & the mapo tofu was served 10 minutes before the other dishes and was lukewarm. Maybe the kitchen was very busy.

Dishes are only labeled as vegetarian although we were told most are vegan anyway.

Based on my experience and the price I honestly don’t recommend eating there even though the food was nice.

Great vegan options (badly labelled)

I went to plum valley after it being recommended by a friend. The majority of options on the menu that are listed as veggie are actually vegan.

The staff were friendly and helpful in finding vegan options. I had the mock chicken with black bean sauce, braised pan fried tofu with mushrooms and peppers, vegetable dumplings, and the vegetarian platter.

My favourites were definitely the mock chicken and the veggie platter (especially the beef). Obsessed with both of these and would definitely order both again.

The tofu was silken not pan fried but still good. Dumplings were nice but not bursting with flavour.

Dishes are slightly expensive but expected for central London. I’d definitely go back.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Good mix of vegetables and fake meats , Great flavours

Cons: Vegan options aren’t clearly labelled , Slightly expensive

Good for China Town

I had visitors staying in London with me and this was the only restaurant I could see online that had vegan options. Does mock meat, the sweet and sour mock chicken was crispy and the best dish. Food was ok, service ok. Was nice for China Town but won’t go again.

Pros: Mock meat options

Cons: Wish there was more tofu options , Service a bit rushed, forgot a dish , Food is not greatest and kind of expensive

Evening dim sum!

Rare to find a place that serves dim sum in the evenings too, with a couple of vegan options including mushroom dumplings which were very flavoursome. Reasonable price for the noodles with the portion, although it was pretty oily. Would be nice to try to mock meat / tofu dishes next time. Staff knowledgeable about the vegan options so this is good as it’s hard to come by vegan friendly restaurants in Chinatown.

Pros: Molte opzioni vegane

Good option in Chinatown

Food is delicious and a decent vegan selection. Ask for the allergen menu. Service however was really slow. Took over an hour for two plates of dumplings (shanghai vegetarian and mixed vegetarian dim sum platter) and the mock chicken. Rice arrived after I had finished my meal.

Pros: Allergen menu with quite a few options

Cons: Menu doesn’t have vegan options labelled, Service is slow

Lots of choice!

Excellent vegetarian and vegan options. We had the vegan chicken and it was so good. Like with all fake meats, the texture isn't quite right but I was happy to eat lots of it.

Pros: Lots of vegetarian and vegan options., Fast service., Excellent food.

Cons: Book in advance, it can be very busy

Good but served shrimps by mistake

The food was really delicious, especially loved the mock chicken in yellow bean sauce. Unfortunately, vegan items are not marked on the menu and we had to ask staff, who disagreed on which items can and cannot be made vegan. We read the allergen menu for more clarity. Along with our vegan dishes we were given shrimp dim sums instead of the vegan ones we ordered. The staff replaced them for us but it was still unpleasant, as I only realised the dumplings had shrimps when I tried to eat one... would love to return but I'll be very careful next time

Excellent Vegan Options

Loved the ambience and the number of vegan options. The food was great quality, really tasty Cantonese fusion. A place where Vegans, Veggies can go with their non-veg friends and all will be happy.

Pros: Lots of Vegan options, Many other dishes can be made vegan, Delicious food

Cons: A little expensive

Delicious, plenty, friendly staff and reasonably priced

My s/o and I had the mock duck in black bean sauce, ma po tofu, steamed rice, 3 beautiful vegetable dumplings and a drink for 50 pound, service included. It was absolutely delicious, and plenty, we got a doggy bag. However I don't know how many vegan options there were because it was not indicated on the menu.

My favourite in Chinatown

The chilli & garlic fried diced tofu is one of the best Chinese dishes I’ve ever had. Great flavours! Had the mock sweet and sour chicken for main but it wasn’t as good as the starter. Will try the black bean next time as per other reviewer’s recommendation.

Vegetarian options are clearly marked on the menu, and enough tofu/veg options for vegans. Confirm with server when ordering.

Top notch Chinese food

Their Mock Chinese in Black Bean is so spot on that when I first had it, I caused an argument about it being real chicken (they later brought me some real chicken to show the texture difference and my omni mum tried it and said it’s definitely not real chicken).

They do other vegan items but I always get the same thing as it’s so reliably delicious. It can be a bit pricey, but worth it for special treat.

Restaurant is also gorgeous with good service.

Pros: Delicious vegan options , Chinese food!
