Heavenly

This was a complete surprise, as I did not even know about it. Walked by this place on a sunny day in search of food while walking through Bethesda, saw the name “Planta,” walked in and WOW. Beautiful interior, great friendly staff and seeing the Menu made me so happy! I was wven happier when I tried their food! Oh my, just amazing, kudos to them. I cannot wait to be back and I will make sure to visit them in other cities too.

Five stars for taste and service

Grade A for taste - C for healthy. The food was delicious. The menu options way better than the ordinary. Delightful fast service. We had dragon roll, crispy rice, spicy tuna from the sushi menu. We had the truffle pizza (VERY mushroomy). Bang bang broccoli. Onion soup. Cheese cake and cc cookie.

Loved the spicy tuna sushi. Loved the truffle pizza. Bang bang broccoli was delicious - but deep fat fried. Not a big fan of the cheesecake or cookie. #Veganuary

Pros: Unusual menu with enticing choices, Wonderful service , Tasty food

Cons: Not healthy - lots of oil, salt, sugar, Hah! Too tempting!

Fancy

We went there first time for New Year Eve dinner. So fancy and everything were small plates. I will like to go back during daily time.

Fine dining should be like this

Superior service, tasty unique dishes, and ambiance makes this a great choice for many. I had the torched sushi and found it quite flavorful without being spicy.

Pros: Great parking, Clean and bright, Friendly staff

Superb

The crispy rice sushi, Campanelle pasta (so creamy!), and cheesecake were fantastic. Cheesecake is the best vegan cheesecake I’ve had. Staff were very nice. Quite pricey, definitely a treat

I'm definitely be coming here on my work from home days. The food was lovely and all tasted good. My friends ordered the hot chocolate which they said wasn't chocolatey enough, but was good enough. The staff was excellent as well!

Delicious and beautiful restaurant

Every dish we had was delicious. We didn’t love the vegan cheese they put on the diavola pizza, but otherwise everything was perfect. It’s a little expensive but that’s just the area.

Great food at a premium price

Really great vegan sushi options. I love the torched and pressed, crispy rice, and dragon rolls. The bang bang broccoli is a huge winner too. I am making my way through the menu, so I’ve also tried the carbonara, which was pretty good but definitely not worth $25.

The sushi is definitely worth it if you go on Monday (they have $8 rolls) but the prices make this a special treat for me every once in a while.

Pros: Creative vegan options , Great healthy food options

Cons: Super expensive

The food is beyond delicious no doubt.

The service, the ambiance, the menu options, the food etc. - pretty much everything besides the price, this place is perfect.

I’ve been there almost 7 times now, and I’ve tried a new dish every time. I have not been disappointed even once. Make sure to sign up for rewards program, might help with unnecessary over charges like even a small glass of Coke.

Pros: Amazing vegan options, The food is unique and tastes amazing, Beautiful ambiance, and great service

Cons: Even just a small glass of coke costs $4.50

A menu full of fabulous options

I am not a newbie when it comes to vegan food, and this place really impressed me. Refined food made of delicious whole, house-made components. Has ample seating for large groups with a reservation. We had the cauliflower tots (tender, savory, with a crispy exterior), unagi nigiri and mushroom bacon inari (exceptional!), eggplant rollatini (tender, flavorful), Frenchie pizza (huge and delicious) and the cheesecake with sour cherry compote to finish. Do not sleep on the cheesecake, it is cashew-based and struck the right balance between sumptuous and light. I am not a fan of sour cherries, but this place makes everything taste so good and I devoured it happily. Our new go-to place for date night.

Pros: All vegan options, Entirely house made food, Beautiful ambiance

Pros: Todo delicioso, Muchas opciones, Todo vegano

Cons: No es barato

Not bad, but…

Vegan since 1977. Thrilled to see vegan restaurants making their mark. As for Planta Bethesda, I can’t honestly say that I share the praise given by so many. I will preface by saying that I may be harsher on them than on others because of the price point. Three people, $130 with tip, is not a cheap outing. So, first the service: it was okay. They were nice, but not great. More importantly the food. Of the six items we ordered, I would say two were exceptional, two were fine, and two were acceptable. On the acceptable end of the scale was the pizza. The dough was good, the toppings were okay. Again, I’m being picky. The dragon sushi? Fine, not amazing. I’ve had much more exciting for much less. The cheesecake? Really good, in fact better than, but not ‘New York’ cheesecake. Not the same size, not the same richness. This one was more delicate and tasty than a NY Cheesecake. In this case, I would change the name, not the recipe. The cappuccino… blah. Again, for the price and the location, give me something that wows me a little bit more, maybe some more froth, a design, some whipped cream maybe (my Italian wife disapproves). I live literally around the corner so I will go back one or two more times and order different items to see if I am blown away. Again, for the price, I do not think I’m asking too much. And before you ask, yes, in 45 years of being vegan, I have eaten ‘blown away’ vegan recipes. I’ll close by saying, if you’re okay with the price, you will definitely enjoy yourself, it’s really not bad. But it’s not yet, IMHO, amazing, and I really want it to be.

Pros: Cheesecake was amazingly tasty, Bang Bang Broccoli is amazing

Cons: A little pricy for the quality of the recipes, Mediocre service, Lacks the pizzazz factor - for this price, wow me!

They do it right

Wow! First of all, the restaurant is beautiful. Very cool decor, not very many vegan joints like this. The unagi eggplant nigiri was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Unagi is something I miss from my non-vegan days. This wasn't an exact match for the real unagi, but it was something else just as amazing. My friend had the Habibi bowl and that also blew our minds. It had falafel, but the flavor and texture was heavenly. An elevated version of the falafel you get from your fave takeout place. This is a must visit if you are in the Bethesda area. Do not miss out!

Upscale vegan dining in the DMV

Our party of four especially enjoyed the Bang Bang Broccoli appetizer. The sushi platter we shared was ok, but the wasabi and ginger were really tiny. The Planta burger and pizzas were quite good as well. We also shared a very nice bottle of Argentine Malbec.

Wait staff were very attentive and helped us decide on some dishes.

For dessert, our party shared the cherry cheesecake, a brownie with housemade ice cream and giant chocolate chip cookie. The first two were very good, the cookie, just so-so.

As far as cost, we did find Planta to be on the pricey side, around $100/couple before tip.

Pros: Large portions , Friendly wait staff

Cons: Pricey

Planta is a wonderful vegan option in the DMV. Great service, great food.

I liked the waiter, the food he recommended was great and the drink menu is fantastic. The indoor seating is nice and the patio is serviceable. Good for people watching. Planta is as good as the Fancy Radish, possibly better.

Pros: A variety of vegan options; not just burgers , Nice seating , Friendly staff

Cons: A little pricey but not overly, Dessert menu not great

Delicious, eclectic food in Bethesda

After dining at Planta locations in Toronto and Miami Beach, I was thrilled that one came to the DC area. Right in the heart of Bethesda Row, an eclectic collection of shops and restaurants, is Planta Bethesda, a bright, airy space. I've been to this location a couple of times, and three other locations once. The service is friendly and the atmosphere just shy of upscale. If I get to choose my last meal, the Bao Sliders would surely be part of it. It's a pillow of dough wrapped around a crispy fried mushroom, cucumber, and drizzles of hoisin and a creamy sauce. Seriously, it's really amazing. However, since each order is only one bao, you'll have to order one for each person at the table who wants one.

Planta also has various sushi dishes, and I'm a huge fan of the inari. On a prior visit I had the Spaghettini alla Carbonara (with mushroom "bacon") and loved it. My boyfriend and I also loved the Baby Gem Caesar salad. While a beautiful Instagram-worthy dish, the Avocado Lime Tartare was not my favorite (my boyfriend did enjoy it), but I did like the Tomato Tartare, which made me think of an Italian restaurant. (Yes, the food selections are quite eclectic.)

In addition to cocktails, Planta also has drinks with zero-proof libations and a selection of juices. The Easy Being Green felt so healthy and had the slightest kick from the ginger.

I know I will have to try one of the pizzas on my next visit.

Pros: Delicious food, Good service

Cons: A bit expensive

Amazing all vegan restaurant

Everything here is so delicious and a ton of variety- they have sushi, pizza, pastas, apps and some of the best salads I’ve ever had in my life! A lot of the dishes are sharing size so bring your non-vegan friends to show them how amazing plant based food can be !

Pros: specials some nights- half priced wine Wednesday

Cons: very pricey
