Fun, friendly cafe

Had a lovely, hearty breakfast at Kat's Kitchen a couple of weeks ago. Plenty of Vegan options, and nice to have things made fresh. My full breakfast was just what was needed to see me through the rest of the day :-) I think the only improvement I'd love to see in that specific dish. would be something to replace the potato waffle. But that's a minor, personal thing. Would be very happy to return again and try some more food!

Pros: Nice, tasty food, Good amount of choice, Friendly staff

Great Find

A laid back atmosphere but friendly and informal with nice music and people. A central base on my few days walking and touring the north Lake District. Food was healthful and tasty and I particularly liked the vegan cakes that I devoured not needing to count calories.

Pros: Friendly and welcoming with a broad menu.

Cons: Too many smoothie choices.

And Dog

We stopped by for coffee and tea and lovely cakes, and the friendly people here brought out biscuits and water for Nell the dog, so she loved it too.

Pros: great food, good value for Keswick, dog friendly

Little Gem

I was so happy to hear that Keswick was getting a vegan friendly eatery! We have visited many times and tried alot of the options but definitely have our favourites, including mac'n'cheese, stuffed aubergine and for my youngest he is obsessed with the banana bread! We are a family of six and find the prices around average for when we all go out to eat. We recently took my omni, gluten free mothe rin law there for lunch and she really enjoyed her meal of shepherdess pie.
The staff are very helpful and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, if a little small. If you are a large party, like we are, its easier to be seated outside of busier times.

So many delicious vegan options!

Lovely place just off the main drag in Keswick. After much deliberation (lots of great options) I had the vegan stew with garlic bread and a slice of carrot cake. All was outstanding, highly recommend!

Cons: None

Amazing... cake every day of the holiday!

Finding vegan cake is always a bonus, finding vegan cake that my other half who eats anything thinks is delicious is even harder, and finally the gingerbread matching my Gran's (who was a brilliant baker) has to be a win.
A selection of plant milk to choose from to make a lovely hot chocolate topped with homemade marshmallows - we went on holiday to walk, ended up planning our walks to always manage a visit before closing!
Chocolate orange cake is beautifully moist, gingerbread as mentioned is brilliant and the muffins were delicious! Next time will try the scones and some savoury dishes :-)
Met the lovely Kat on most of our visits and it's a delight to see someone so passionate, and we had the same waitress most of the days who remembered each previous conversation, unfortunately can't remember her name but also a delight!
Will definately be returning :-)

Pros: Vegan cake ... chocolate, ginger, so hard to pick!, Friendly staff , Finally proper marshmallows for hot chocolate!

Cons: We intended to lose weight until finding this gem!

healthy lunch

having driven on the.m6 on so many occasions we decided to head off route by 20 mins to try Kat"s kitchen.

three specials as well as the menu we went for put lentil goulash and veg chilli. both were tasty, a little.more seasoning maybe, and also healthy.
the amount of.time I have stopped at services.and eaten crap food, no more.need.for that.
good.prices and good.portion sizes affected great value.
I finished with Vega. chocolate cake with mint icing which was.magic.
a good.wholefood.cafe offering healthy food.

Pros: food, healthy, staff

Rough diamond

Kat's Kitchen is in a ramshackle little hut right next to the River Greta (so fingers crossed it doesn't flood). This is a simple case of good food in an unpromising exterior. Some limited parking is available right next to the café (on tarmacadam resembling Swiss cheese) but I recommend the Rawnsley Centre car park just across the road (or going on foot, of course). The tables outside are wheelchair accessible and have good views of the fells; you can also lean on the wall and watch the river babble past, should you desire. Sadly most of the interior of the café, including the toilet, is down quite a large step (and the toilet is extremely manky and belongs in a student house). The interior decoration is, well, rustic. Dogs are welcome.

So now I've finished criticising the building, what do I think of the food? Well, I love it. All the vegan cakes are top notch. The hot drinks are rather expensive (£2.80 for a coffee) but they taste all right. There are GF options. I have had the Shepherdess Pie, chilli and dhal and liked all of them. I might have some minor quibbles like preferring brown to white rice but really I am just so relieved to have a veggie option in Keswick since the sad demise of the Pedlar. (Incidentally, people who recall the Pedlar might be pleased to hear that its former owner came in to give Kat her blessing and best wishes!)

Pros: Proper chow, nice staff, scenic location

Cons: Makeshift interior, gets crowded, dodgy toilet

We will definitely be coming back

We really enjoyed our vegan chocolate cakes and coffee after a 9 mile walk around Derwent Water on a beautiful sunny September day. It was great to find a such a good selection of plant based foods. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Next time we visit Keswick, we will definitely call in again.
