I love Pizza Express but - Edit
It was just abit naff, the waiting was really slow, the food came out cold and yeah just a bit rubbish. Food was yummy but like I said, cold. It wasn’t overly busy so I’m not too sure why it was like this. #Veganuary

Good vegan menu, lovely setting - Edit
It's a branch of Pizza Express so you probably know what to expect... but if you haven't been in a while you may be surprised at just how extensive their dedicated vegan menu is. Lots of pizza, pasta & salads to choose from. Always nicest on a thin & crispy Romano base! Comes with the added bonus of being in a lovely old building on the banks of the River Ouse, making it a much better choice than the other branch in town.

Cons: It's a chain, Too many families with out of control kids, Staff not always the friendliest

Excellent! - Edit
Wonderful pizzas and food as is generally expected in Pizza Express, and a lovely old building to enjoy it in.

A ‘Full’ Vegan Menu … - Edit
Wow. Pizza Express is working hard to bring in vegans.
Read moreAs well as having many vegan options on the Main Menu, their “Vegan Menu” is pretty blood good, I must say. I was expecting a small A5 size menu with a few options - Nope. The Vegan Menu is almost as big as the Main Menu (see pictures) and boasts an amazing … 21 vegan dishes with extra vegan toppings and vegan dough stick on top. 2 Appetisers, 5 Starters, 2 Salads, a Calzone, 5 Romana Pizzas, 5 Classic Pizzas and a delicious Leggara (under 600 calories). The desserts are not as adventurous with only 3 vegan choices but they’re varied. The kids menu is also vegan friendly with the options to swap to vegan cheese. Amazing really for a big chain.
Today I chose the “Sloppy Vegan” but changed it from a classic pizza to a romana pizza as they are bigger with thinner crispier base (see photo). It was huge and tasted amazing. Next time I’m having the American Jack.
The restaurant is right next to the river with lovely views. The two dining rooms are warm, bright, airy and ornate. (See pictures)
If there’s one criticism it’s that the cups and plates are cold before the drink and food is added. My double espresso was only warm due the the size of the cold cup it was poured into. The pizza was hot on delivery but being a romana it was warm half way though and cold by the time I ate the last piece and I eat fast!
Pros: Full Vegan Menu, Great choice , Great views
Cons: Plates are cold which chills the food, Cups are cold which chills the drinks, Not cheap (but worth it)

Lots of vegan options - Edit
Really nice to see chains putting a lot more effort into vegan menus beyond an 'option'. Probably about 8 different pizzas plus pasta, calzones, salad etc.
Read moreHad the Legara pizza, caramelised onions were very sweet and the spinach was nice but crust burnt and a little greasy.
Find quality very hit and miss in Pizza Express but grateful for options
Pros: Heavily expanded vegan menu
Cons: Find Pizza Express 'hit and miss'

Not bad - Edit
This is pizza express so you can’t really expect a deluxe dining experience. However I had a jackfruit vegan pizza that was pretty good. The guy who showed us to our table managed to do so without speaking to us and while having a telephone conversation. But other staff were friendly and helpful.

Great - Edit
We went in to try their newly advertised jackfruit pizza, but it was sold out. Vegan giardinera was delicious. They allow you to sub the vegan mozzarella onto any pizza so loads of choice plus lots of veggie mains. Friendly and helpful staff, good prices and really nice building.

Take me to the River - Edit
Absolutely gorgeous building and location on the banks of the River Ouse as you walk over the bridge from the train station. We sat in a lovely antiquated room with old fireplaces and wooden paneling from the period. Giardiniera and Caponata pizzas great as ever. The roast aubergine on the Caponata is sensational. A bottle of vegan certified wine and a jug of iced water to help distribute the fluid intake more evenly. Onwards and upwards.
