Surprisingly Vegan-Friendly Restaurant!

When we pulled up to the parking lot, I was skeptical that this would be a location with many vegan options, but I was pleasantly surprised. We got the vegan chili fries, vegan garlic bread, and vegan veggie pizza and all these dishes were great! The owners are super nice.

Pros: Many vegan options

Fantastic gem of a pizzeria

TL;DR: Friendly staff, very tasty dishes, great options for vegans!

Full review:

My sister and I (both fully vegan) ordered from here because we were craving pizza, and what a great decision it was.

So there’s a menu floating around the internet of their vegan options—this is outdated!! I confirmed with the restaurant staff that the menu was from when the restaurant was under different ownership. They still have a lot of the options, but not all present on the menu. Call and ask!

We ordered a large vegan pizza with vegan sausage, onion, and green pepper (we wanted pepperoni but they no longer have that), with an order of their vegan chicken nuggets and vegan garlic bread. We wanted their chili fries, but they no longer have them—they’re working to get that item back though! Also, they offered to put the vegan chicken nuggets on the pizza, so if that’s something you’d like, it’s definitely an option!

The pizza was quite large and well made—good ratio of sauce and dough, and they do NOT skimp on the cheese, which is appreciated. The cheese tastes and looks like daiya, which I’m fine with. The sausage they use appears and tastes like Tofurkey sausage, which I occasionally have and enjoy, so no complaints there either.

The chicken nuggets were crispy and very tasty—I’m not sure what brand, but I enjoyed them a lot. They would probably pair well with a standard companion sauce for chicken nuggets, like ketchup, but I enjoyed them straight. There’s also a good amount included! We counted about 16 pieces, so plenty to have and share.

The garlic bread was very tasty—great bread, plenty of daiya cheese, and a rich garlic taste. It’s still garlic bread—don’t expect to have your mind blown—but it’s *very good* garlic bread.

Overall, I’d highly recommend giving Pizza D’Action a shot. The staff was soooo friendly and they were so happy and eager to accommodate vegans.

Pros: Plenty of solid, delicious options, Very decent portions, Super friendly staff

Cons: Not 100% vegan—but as good as nonvegan joints get

Excellent pizza. Amazing garlic bread.

Small local pizza joint with some very nice vegan options. I don't like eggplant, but their eggplant on the vegan pie is excellent. And my god-- the vegan garlic bread with layering of vegan cheese and garlic? Amazeballs. Worth it just for that.

First time impressions

So many customization options. Opted for the Veggie Vegan Combo pizza, as is, to try for the first time there. With all those great veggies, I somehow thought it lacked flavor, mainly in the crust. I liked the way the eggplant was prepared- not overly breaded. I would try this again maybe on a thin crust base instead and ask for vegan marinara on the side.

Best thing I tried by far though was the vegan garlic bread 🤤 When I go there again in the future I will ask if I can get that vegan garlic bread treatment on a sub or pizza as a base before adding anything else because damn that was good!

Don't miss out!

SOOOOO Good! I love their meatball sub (make sure that the cheese they put in it is vegan) and the pizza. As far as the pizza goes, they have so many toppings to choose from. Can't wait to sample the rest of their menu.

Pros: Inexpensive, Tasty, Many Options

Best Vegan Pizza I've Ever Had--and I've had them all

This is a very friendly place with, by FAR, the BEST vegan pepperoni pizza I have ever had. Not many pizza joints have vegan options, and the ones that do--the pizza is usually really soggy, sticky, flavorless, and they never have vegan pepperoni! THANK YOU, Pizza D'Action, for being the ONLY restaurant I have found that gets the vegan pizza right! It tastes and acts just like dairy pizza, the pepperoni is spot-on too. They also offer a vegan meatball sub which is also good (a little dry, could have used more sauce), but not as good as the pizza. The owner told me that they are considering adding more vegan-friendly options to the menu, I hope they do! I would have given them five stars but they serve non-veg too, so they only get 4 stars from me. IMO, they should GO FULLY VEG, as they would corner the market and do very well.

Pros: Excellent Customer Service, Delicious Vegan Pepperoni Pizza, Friendlier than ever staff and owner

Cons: They also serve non-vegan options

Delicious

Great pizza with Daiya cheese. Never a fan of the extra charge for vegan cheese, but happy that a local pizza joint has the option!

Fantastic vegan pizza!

Ordered a pizza for delivery. It arrived hot. It was heavily laden with vegan cheese, sausage, spinach, and artichokes. A bit messy to eat, but no complaints here on that! I come to Holyoke once a year for an event and had ordered a vegan pizza last year as well which also was delicious. Vegan topping choices also included meatballs, chicken, tofu and lots of vegetables.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Extremely generous amount of pizza toppings.

Vegan pizza!

I was so excited to try this place because I rarely get to have vegan pizza. I was not disappointed. I ordered chili fries for an appetizer (they use a bean chili) and then I got a veggie pizza. It was super hard to decide what to order because there are so many options for vegans! I can't wait to go back again.

Pros: Good selection, Tasty food, Good service

Cons: They also serve meat and dairy

Good food, disappointing service

The food was excellent, we got a vegan meatball grinder and a buffalo tofu pizza, but we waited over and hour after ordering to eat. This was a mix of us getting forgotten about and their first pizza attempt including both vegan and nonvegan cheese. I hate that feeling when multiple families who arrived after you ordered finish and leave before your food comes out. It’s also $2.50 extra to sub vegan cheese on any item, which is a bit ridiculous when the pizza we ordered usually comes with blue cheese, mozzarella cheese, and cheddar cheese. But the food was really great when we got it!

So happy that there’s some vegan pizza options in Holyoke. Not only is the staff great, the variety is amazing!! I get very creative with my vegan pizza! Plus the veggie quesadilla with vegan cheese is to die for! A must try for sure. Thumbs up for gluten free options.

Beautiful, cozy diner with tons of incredible vegan options. I ordered the vegan lasagna, chili fries, and garlic bread. Everything was absolutely DELICIOUS, with huge portions. I couldn’t be more satisfied. The owner was extremely friendly and the waitress was very attentive. A perfect spot to stop on a journey through western Mass!

There are so many vegan options I had a hard time picking but i went with the lasagna and it was great. Huge portion, very fresh and even the dressing for the salad was delicious. I will be back again to try all of the other vegan options.

Also the hostess/server, Rebecca was the sweetest thing! Super helpful and just made the experience that much better.

Looking Forward to Eating Here More Often!

Being a new vegan, I was sad that I wouldn’t be able to indulge in one of my favorite foods (pizza) anymore. Luckily, Pizza D’Action serves up a ton of Vegan-Friendly Italian options! I went for the Veggie Vegan Combo, and was not disappointed! Who woulda thought you can have a delicious, flavor-packed pie without cheese and meat? Well, you can! Can’t wait to give all the other menu items a try!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, The Crust!!!

deliciousness!

My husband and I are both vegetarians currently who are trying to switch over to being vegans. We ordered the vegan lasagna and a small vegan pizza with broccoli onions garlic and black olives. Both were so good! I would highly recommend! Also the woman on the phone made sure to clarify whether we wanted vegan or vegetarian lasagna which I really appreciated. They also delivered in a good amount of time.

Would Give 5 Stars if I️ Could

Authentic tasting, filling Italian vegan food. Able to enjoy with friends and family that are non vegan and we can all find something we enjoy. Staff is incredibly friendly and will gladly adapt any menu item to your needs, although there is a fully vegan section on the menu. The falafel wrap and the vegan lasagna is to die for!!

Pros: separate vegan section of menu , authentic Italian plus much more , friendly staff

Cons: not in the best area of Holyoke

Lots of vegan options, but big substitution fee on some

I had a nice quick lunch here on the way to the airport. I love when restaurants are eager to provide great fare for their diet-restricted patrons, like myself.

I had the vegan sausage sandwich. It nice and hearty, and had a really generous helping of sausage (did they put a whole package of Tofurky in there??). The interior of the restaurant was pretty plain - standard pizza parlor look - but I like that. The woman working that day was really nice and helpful, as well.

Overall, a nice experience. My only concern as I leafed through the menu was the big upcharge on pizzas when substituting vegan cheese. If I recall correctly, it was more than $7 substitution fee for the largest size. I understand vegan substitutes are expensive, but who can afford a ~$30 pizza? Any other vegans have experience with this?

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Simple, down to earth, Nice staff

Cons: Big surcharge for vegan substitutes (on some items

Holy Happy Cow! That'sa Pizza!

We went to get the special vegan pizza after reading about it here on HappyCow. All I can say is FANTASTICO! The toppings included spinach, Greek olives, peppers, and perfectly browned, thin slices of eggplant. We asked for vegan sausage and Daiya cheese. We ordered the large (12") and ate every crumb. We'll be going back to try vegan grinders, lasagne, and calzone.

Pros: High vegan awareness, Delicious

Cons: Location a little remote

Pizza D' Awesome!!

Pizza D' Action offers a solution to a vegan's problem of finding options to eat outside of their own kitchen. With a generous menu that is reasonable priced this restaurant offers customers a friendly environment to order take out or stay inside and mingle with friends.

The owner, Scott, is a kind person that is more than willing to accommodate your dietary needs if possible. Upon my visit (my first time here) Scott came out of the back and was delightful to speak with.

I have nothing bad to say about my experience at Pizza D' Action (awesome!!)

good food, good people

really good food, they recently added lots of vegan options. we ordered more than we could finish, wanted to try a little of everything. started with the potato skins topped with chili and vegan cheese. also got the vegan lasagna which was delicious. for pizza we got an XL veggie vegan combo. everything was great. the owner and waitress were really nice and helpful too. he came out and talked to us for a bit and was happy we liked the vegan options. before we left he gave us some pita, hummus and black bean dip for free. my only minor complaint would be that the pizza is cut into small squares instead of normal pie slices.

Yummy Vegan Options!

Found this place on Happy Cow while visiting the area and was pleasantly surprised by the many vegan options! I began my meal with their Vegan Chili. Very tasty with just the right amount of spicy. They also have “starters” including Loaded Fries with vegan chili and vegan cheese or Potato Skins with the same. There are several vegan grinders including Vegan Spicy Sausage (with grilled onion/pepper and tomato sauce), Eggplant, Black Bean Wrap, Avocado Wrap, and Grilled Veggie Wrap. And, of course, they have pizza with vegan cheese. I had the Veggie Vegan-Combo – a white pizza with sautéed pepper, caramelized onion, fresh mushroom, Kalamata olive, spinach, and breaded eggplant. It was scrumptious! Other vegan items included salads, spaghetti, vegan lasagna, Indian Korma, and their Vegan Assortment Platter. I ordered the Platter to carry-out and ate it later for dinner. There are different options for the Platter – mine included housemade grape leaves, black bean dip, quinoa salad, tabbouleh, and pita. Everything was fresh and delicious! Other Platter options were hummus, couscous salad, and falafel. They even have large housemade vegan cookies – oatmeal and oatmeal with vegan chocolate chips! I just wish they had a restaurant where I live in Maryland. (Note: Happy Cow only allows a maximum rating of four stars for non-vegetarian restaurants. Otherwise, I would have given them a five.)
