Impressive - Edit
EXTENSIVE vegan menu. Seriously, it’s a full menu, and is larger than most standard menus. Great, friendly service; good music; and great atmosphere. The food isn’t fancy, but it’s really good and the prices are not bad. Someone earlier said that it’s just bar food, but Piper Down is literally a pub. It’s far better than standard bar fare, but don’t expect gourmet. I had the vegan bangers and mash and it was the perfect comfort food.

This is one of my favorite spots in Salt Lake City. The loaded potato skins are so bomb 💣

Great food, adequate service - Edit
I love "[censored]" pubs. And one with vegan options? The best thing ever. They poured Guinness perfectly, and the food was SUPER good. They did make a mistake and brought out two orders of shrimp tacos rather than just one order plus an order of fish and chips. When we mentioned the mistake, the runner (not our normal server) made some snide comment about us being able to keep them because "no one that works here is vegan" insinuating they won't eat a free meal because it's free of animals? After that, she brought out the fish and chips and we literally never saw our actual server again until we flagged him down for the check. Like, not even a first bite check-in or anything. We actually had to go to the bar to ask for silverware since he never came around. So anyway, great food and adequate service.

Overpriced bar food - Edit
In the time of covid, we went in to order take out and we stranded waiting to order for almost 10 minutes. My boyfriend and I ordered a tiger wrap and a cowboy burger. His was fine he said but the “bacon” tasted funny. My wrap was soggy from either the lettuce or the cucumbers, so bad it was falling apart. Fries were cold and they forgot our fried pickles we had to drive all the way back for.

Excellent Philly cheesesteak! - Edit
I rank it third best I’ve had, and the best outside of Philly. My wife had the patty melt and said it was great. We also split the buffalo seitan wings. Great tasting buffalo sauce, the wings could’ve used more sauce though

Awesome! - Edit
My server was awesome, also vegan, and mentioned the owners are vegan as well. They had a giant menu that was honestly hard to choose from. Would love to see a vegan drink menu added.

Not as good as it used to be. - Edit
I've been going here for years. They used to have vegan bangers & mash, but no more. The "pub favorites" section of the Green Menu has exactly one traditional Celtic pub item: Fish & chips. You won't find any Irish stew or shepherd's pie here, even though these could easily be made vegan.
Read moreThis past week I ordered the Chili Verde burrito with jackfruit, which had been amazing on my previous visit (stuffed with jackfruit, moist and delicious). This time, it wasn't even that good; they used an oversized tortilla folded over on itself (lots of layers to chew through on the ends), and the filling was probably 70-80% chunks of potato, with a little jackfruit and not much chili verde sauce mixed in. I won't order that again. Even though the pub wasn't at all crowded when we went (a late Sunday afternoon), it took over 10 minutes for our party of four to get a server's attention, and they didn't seem too happy to wait on us.
Pros: Vegan menu!, Drinks, Atmosphere
Cons: quality of food has gone down, no more vegan bangers & mash, hard to get server's attention/long wait

It's ok - Edit
It's nice to go to a place where they have a clear vegan menu. There's lots of options. It's a dark bar. Staff is very friendly. Food was ok, it was more pub American food. I wish they made Irish vegan food. At the Vegfest a few years ago they had a vegan Shepherds pie that was amazing! I hope they add that soon!

Ask for the vegan menu - Edit
Tons of vegan options, and Chao cheese and BeyondMeat is available. Their burgers, wraps, and drinks were excellent, but the brunch items were pretty heavy on the fat. Very tasty food overall.

Tasty but not my type - Edit
I had the tacos, and fish n chips when I came here. Although the food was very tasty it was very fatty and made sleepy afterwards. In particular the fish n chips were way too oily for my liking, but still tasty. The tacos were a little too salty in my opinion, but a healthier options than the fish n chips. Especially if you don't add so much avocado and remove the vegan sour cream. They have a lot of vegan options and they are marked clearly on the menu huge pro. I probably will not come again, as I avoid oils/heavy salts. if you are not worried about that and just a junk food vegan definitely come check it out! if the centire place was vegan I would have given this place four stars. :)

NOT a Vegan, but love the Food! - Edit
OK, you need to know that I like meat. But both of my grown kids are Vegans and they are ALWAYS trying to convince me to try meatless dishes. So when I visited Piper Down on a Sunday morning for the Bloody Mary bar, I tried the Vegan Huevos Rancheros. They were great! Texture was a little different than a scrambled egg, but the flavor was wonderful, fresh, spicy and just the right amount of hot to go with the Bloody Mary. Yumm! Next time I visit SLC, I'm DEFINITELY going back to try another dish.

Comfortable Atmosphere with Great Food! - Edit
I recently visited Piper Down and was so surprised by how many veg/vegan options are available on their menu. I ordered the vegan spicy buffalo wings as an appetizer and then had the potato tacos. Yum! My friend had the Garden Burger with guacamole and she said it was delicious! It was huge! We really liked the service too. We were greeted by the bartender as we walked in and then our waitress was super fast and friendly.
Read moreThe decor is really neat and looks just like an actual pub in Ireland. And the 2nd bar in the back (they call it the Temple Bar) is a really fun room. Maybe we will have our Christmas party there this year. The bathrooms were nice as well. It's too bad the back patio is mainly for smoking but I guess you can't have everything.
I'm for sure coming back to this place- I'd really like to try their brunch menu on the weekend.
Pros: Yummy Food, Friendly Staff, Great Atmosphere
Cons: Smoky Patio, Had to park on the street

Something for EVERYBODY!! - Edit
I love this place! They have the best Vegan/Vegetarian options offered every single day. It's nice I can go here with all my friends and have choices. The brunch menu is phenomenal! My faves are Compost Hash, Huevos Rancheros, and the Breakfast Burrito. On the regular menu I love the tacos and the "Miss-steak" philly. The staff is really helpful and can offer some great suggestions. The atmosphere is awesome. I like to just come and chat with my friends, but the trivia, paint night, bingo, and poker are all really fun too!
