Lovely environment

Love this café - we had the focaccia with hummus and caramelised onions, served with generous salads. A nice change to get genuinely healthy vegan food, rather than fake meat and ultra-processed food. Very peaceful outside with robins, chaffinches and swallows around.

Pros: Pleasant staff, Very tasty food, Lovely setting

Hercules would be hungry

I'd love to rate PoH higher but unfortunately their food is never anything to write home about, and it's generally quite expensive for what you get. I've visited a few times and had something different every time with the hope of it being better as I love everything the shop stands for and such.

It's definitely nice to visit, and I wouldn't say no but there are far better places out there.

Cons: Expensive

Worth a detour

A little out of the way, but well worth a visit to enjoy the countryside. There's also an organic store where you can do your shopping.

Lovely small cafe.

I love this cafe. It is attached to a farm shop and the cafe is vegetarian. I had the soup and was offered vegan margarine for my oatcakes. It is a busy place so get there early as you can during the day. There is outside seating too.

Pros: Food was delicious, Reasonably priced, Friendly and helpful staff

Cons: Would like to see vegan options better marked , Few options for cakes, Vegan and dairy products are not separated

Favourite place in Fife

I am often in Fife visiting my family and always make sure to come here for shopping as soon as I arrive. There are so many organic and vegan options, in the shop and in the Cafe. The origins of the products are labelled. My partner and I are addicted to the mushrooms. It’s wonderful to be able to avoid all the plastic that comes with supermarket shopping and tastes so much better too. The staff are kind and helpful. Definitely five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Veganuary

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Organic , Selection of vegan cakes

Wonderful little spot

Tucked away in a peaceful part of Fife, this farm shop and cafe is a gem. Delicious locally sourced fruit and veg, with a well stocked organic store and cafe. There is also a herbalist on site, a picnic area and a Children‘s playground.

Pros: Beautiful location , Shop and cafe , Stunning scenery nearby

Cons: Difficult to reach by public transport

Lovely Cafe and Farmshop

Pillars has a fully veggie and vegan cafe which offers sandwiches, soups, coffee and cakes. They use their own organic vegetables wherever possible. It's all really tasty and perfect for after a long walk in the lomonds.

The shop has a range of vegan goodies as well as a selection of organic fruit and veg

Atmospheric and authentic veggie heaven

Love this place! The shop, cake and events are wonderful, the grounds beautiful and the whole place just makes you feel happy. Great vegan rocky road and cofffee. Love the pizza evenings with live music - like a beautiful movie set in their stunning apple orchard! Thank you!

Pros: Great shop, Cake is brilliant, Atmosphere

Fabulous eco-friendly project

The cafe is vegetarian, with vegan options. It does not charge extra for oat milk 😁

The shop has vegetables grown organically on site, which is a huge plus. I didnt need any, as where I'm staying (Blinkbonney, Auchtermuchty) has complimentary organic vegetables available, grown on site.

The shop has lots of produce, some vegan and many organic. It is expensive, but there's lots of choice.

You can even buy plants here, grown organically and using eco-feiendly methods.

There is a disabled toilet and the decking area is accesible. There are lots of picnic tables in the surroundings and a fabulous woodland walk nearby.

It's worth a stop for lunch and supplies.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Organic and Eco-friendly produce to buy, No extra charge for oat milk

Cons: Expensive

Nice shop, vegan cafe options a bit limited

We stopped here for some food and had soup with bread and vegan margarine and some gingerbread. The food was all nice but the vegan options were very limited - perhaps they have less on the menu since Covid? Lots of great stuff in the shop though including plenty of plants for sale.

Disappointed ex regular

Mostly vegetarian with a few small and expensive vegan options but they now charge for non dairy even a dash in black coffee, so I won't be back. They also sell meat in the shop so are no longer the premium vegetarian venue they started out as. Organic veg is good but huge food miles in some cases tho other produce is grown on-site. Mixed feelings as I came here regularly for years and loved it til I went dairy free.

Pros: Home produced food, Shop onsite

Cons: Expensive especially for non dairy consumers

Veggie but not very Vegan-friendly.

It is always crowded when I visit so it must be popular but its hard to find a comfortable space among the cramped tables. The menu relies heavily on eggs and dairy. Vegan options are limited and while you will get no reduction for declining butter, milk and sugar, a dash of soya milk in your tea will set you back an additional 40p. I refused to pay last time and moodily drank my tea black. After eating, I casually mentioned the surcharge to a member of staff in the adjoining shop and she told me she thought it was fair enough ... that I'd have to pay the same anywhere else ... "such as Costa." She refused to be corrected and obviously didn't have a clue.

Wonderful Cozy Spot

I wish I could give Pillars 5 stars - would highly recommend. Not only did they have a completely fresh organic vegetarian menu, there were many vegans options and a lovely staff. A great surprise in the midst of heavy pub food!

Great vibe, nice food

We were looking for vegan options, and they had a few. The soup of the day is always vegan, and according to the menu, several other items can be veganized. There are prepared and cook-at-home vegan options in the shop, and all the fruit and veg is organic (much of it grown on the premises). I’d love to see more vegan menu items, including cakes. (Cakes are easy to veganize, and most people can’t tell the difference.)

Pros: Atmosphere , Groceries, cafe, camping and showers all in one p, All organic produce

Cons: Few vegan options

if your in fife or edinburgh, if the sun is shining got to pillars. its half an hour by car from edinburgh, and a million miles away once you sit down. relaxed vibes with a mixture of locals, day tripper and cyclists.

plenty of outdoor seating. nice fresh juices, cakes a decent menu. as soon as you enter you see the organic fruit and veg and i just felt in a place good straight away. there is a very good shop selling almost everything you need, from toothpaste to bread. there is some meat on sale, it is individually shrink wrapped and away from the meat free section.
Great shop

Pros: decent value, great staff, location and setting

Cons: meat in shop

Organic food in beautiful surroundings

Restaurant-shop-and-camping area, Pillars of Hercules offers a tranquil and beautiful area to enjoy beverages or food. You can sit outside the cafe/shop next to their numerous plants and flowers, or under the trees in their fruit garden.

They make 100% vegetarian foods but have some vegan options as well, but meals and deserts/kakes.

Pros: Excellent food, Quiet and relaxed atmosphere, Local and organic produce

Cons: Could do with more vegan options, Some traffic during Summer holidays due to campers

Always A Good Option

Pillars of Hercules never fails to disappoint. Mostly veggie, but always some vegan options available, I tend to visit about once every month. The food is always very enjoyable, the fresh fruit juices too. Even when busy the staff deliver a good standard of service.

Pros: Variety of options, Farm shop attached

Made a nice stop during a longish bike ride

I've been meaning to go to Pillars of Hercules for some time and I finally made it, and was very satisfied. I was told more or less everything could be made vegan so I opted for the burger. It was tasty and the accompanying salad was extremely tasty and fresh. I also had a juice and a cake afterwards. Cake was OK - only two vegan options. It was sunny out so I sat outside in the strawberry fields. It is a nice setting and certainly worth a stop if you're in the area. I'd imagine it is not so easy to get to though but then it is a farm, which is nice to have a nose around. I had a pleasant cycle there (40 mile round trip) and if it was closer I would go there again/often. Probably I will do some walking around the hills there one day and be able to come back.

Pros: Fresh quality produce, Location, Good value

Cons: Location

Fife's Vegan Option

Hailing from Falkland and having been here many, many a time I do like it but having sampled other Veggie and Vegan cafe's the menu is quite limited/doesn't vary much outwith 'safe' options.

It would be nice to have more vegan options available but as this is Fife's only Vegan friendly place I've found thus far I can't complain too much :).

The environment has improved over the years, service hasn't always been that warm though.

I do still enjoy a visit though.

Pros: Only place to visit in fife for vegans, nice setting, organic

Cons: menu rarely changes, staff friendliness, washing of salad
