Best restaurant in Philly - Edit
It’s the creative, seasonal, delicious menu we’ve all been craving in Philly. No half-measures here, everything is made with care and respect, it’s one of my favorite places to come for a relaxing and worthwhile night out. I can’t wait until the sumac tahini sweet potatoes and the broccoli pesto risotto are back in season 🥲

Both the vibes and food are immaculate - Edit
What a time to be alive (and vegan)!! Pietramala is the coolest place you've ever been to. If you thought Vedge was the holy grail you MUST try Pietramala. It's the hipper, cooler-yet-still upscale vegan restaurant the scene needed.
Read moreEvery single dish was a hit. Lots of adventurous cooking techniques and flavors like smoked pears, corn-cob tea, and tomato-based XO sauce.
We were both impressed and delighted. As hip and cool as this restaurant's food is, the service was pleasantly old-school with plate changes after every course, table crumbing, and water glasses that never hit more than half-drank without being refilled.
Come for the creativity and immaculate vibes of Pietramala. Bring your non-vegan friends and they'll be converted before dinner ends.
Pros: Amazing, creative, upscale vegan food, Cool vibes and excellent service, Prices are fair for the quality you get

Another tapas style vegan restaurant. That is a good thing because you can try more dishes.

Vegan culinary adventure - Edit
Dining here is a delight. This small restaurant kitchen turns out an amazing array of tastes, colors and textures - all of it vegan. It is upscale (with prices to match) yet relaxed. The dishes are not rushed to your table, no one hurries you.
Read moreI enjoyed all my dishes - the salad and the fresh pappardelle particularly. Every dish that passed by was beautiful and carefully composed. The menu is always changing, which would make it easy, and interesting, to keep coming back.
Pros: Excellent quality, 100% vegan, Relaxed vibe

I love the rotating menu and usually order the entire thing. The dishes are unique and complex and I am usually fighting my instinct to lick the plates clean. It’s BYOB so come prepared.

Incredible - Edit
My wife and I came here for the first time and were BLOWN AWAY. Almost everything we had was well above a 8/10. We had the Combtooth Mushroom, the Farro Risotto, the Barncat Salad, and the Focaccia. Our favorite dishes were the focaccia—slightly charred in a delectable sauce—and the mushroom-polenta platter.

A second high end vegan restaurant in Philly - Edit
The best things about Pietramala were the very creative flavors and ingredients used in their dishes. I think their menu changes frequently, but we ordered 5 dishes: beet salad, focaccia, fresh tofu, potatoes, and fettuccine. 3/5 of these dishes were fantastic, 1 was good (the potatoes), and 1 we wouldn't prefer again (the fresh tofu). The service was fantastic. They were very attentive, giving us clean plates throughout the night and super friendly. 5 dishes was 1 too many for us, but we eat on the lighter side and came very hungry. We skipped dessert because we were so full. The photos from Pietramala don't do it justice because they do keep it rather dark in the restaurant so cameras have a hard time capturing the details and colors.

Run, don't walk here - Edit
Everything I ordered was amazing, including a noodle dish that immediately took me back to my time in Italy. The crepe dessert was the first food that's ever made me tear up.

Wanted to love it! - Edit
I was so excited to try this place. But most items on the menu were things that are (intentionally) burnt/blackened, such a bummer. They change the menu often (probably weekly), so maybe other weeks are better.
Read moreThe concept is small plates, where you order 4-6 items for 2 people. I was only able to find 2 things that weren't charred. It's also pretty expensive, around $60-90/person, not including drinks.
I brought a non-vegan but open-minded friend, and the server did absolutely nothing to engage her or get her excited about any of the dishes. After a long time reading the menu, and numerous questions for the server, she gave up and just got focaccia bread.
Pros: Lots of veggies (not just fake meat), Many gluten-free options
Cons: Veggies are burnt (on purpose, but still sad), Super dark lighting

Plenty of fun at Pietramala - Edit
My introduction to Pietramala came from a vegan friend in Philly, and I was eager to venture into this new culinary experience on my own. Stepping inside, I was captivated by the soothing ambiance – a blend of neutral colors and the delightful aroma of charred wood that heightened my senses. The staff, from the host to the server, greeted me warmly, making me feel right at home. Pietramala doesn't offer alcoholic beverages, as it's a BYOB.
Read moreI started with the intriguing Shrub and Soda drink, which left my taste buds tingling. It had a unique flavor profile, with a subtle apple cider vinegar aftertaste that surprisingly worked well.
The menu showcased creativity, emphasizing natural ingredients and their true essence. For starters, I indulged in the fresh and crunchy Focaccia with Tomato Bagna Cauda. While the bagna cauda leaned slightly salty, the fresh flavors made it a delightful starter.
Next, I had the Roasted Peppers dish featuring a vibrant mix of roasted peppers, peaches, cashew ricotta, jalapenos, and pepitas for that perfect crunch. The play of colors, flavors, and textures turned the meal into an exciting adventure.
The final dish, Eggplant with harissa yogurt and dukkah, was a surprise of hearty flavors. Its initial resemblance reminded me of a steak, but it was far from that. The tender eggplant, paired with creamy yogurt and crunchy dukkah, created a perfect balance.
The staff's warmth and the evolving menu makes Pietramala a culinary gem, where embracing the unexpected only adds to the delight of the dining experience. Though I found the dishes slightly salty, the overall dining experience was exceptional.

Just go! - Edit
You won’t regret it. My teen that NEVER eats salad was picking the small pieces remnants off the plate of chicories and roasted olives (bac’n bits). Just a salad of greens but the flavors! The focaccia was the best I ever had hands down-airy with crisp. Lion’s mane and the maitake mushrooms-damn. The FLAVORS of the sauces-unique. Just go!

New favorite spot - Edit
Every dish is so well put together. We shared the whole menu between 4 of us and we each had a different favorite bite. All local produce and/or locally foraged. We will be back often 🙏
