Ok, nothing special - Edit
They seem to have a good number of vegan options. I tried pie and mash- the pie filling was a little bland and lacked seasoning and there was this weird aftertaste I can't quite describe from the pastry- like waxy/washing up liquid -like. The gravy and mash were good (though the plain mash could do with some salt/pepper). Second visit tried the sausage and mash, veggies were plain with no seasoning at all and the sausages had a meat texture but again no seasoning...good effort but wouldn't recommend going out of your way to come here.

# Review of Pie Society, Shanghai
Read moreI recently visited Pie Society located in Shanghai and ordered their Veggie Breakfast. I must say I was quite pleased with the experience.
The vegan sausage is yummy, had a great taste and texture. However, I wasn't a big fan of the veggie patty. the toast and roasted tomatoes were good and the hash brown was cooked to perfection.
The coffee at Pie Society is really good - it's not too bitter and has the right balance of flavour. Additionally, the place had a cozy atmosphere, making it perfect for breakfast.
Lastly, the serving size was quite big, and I could barely finish the dish. For those looking for a healthy and filling breakfast, Pie Society is an good option.
Pros: coffee, cozy place, vegan sausage
Cons: veggie patty

Oh Me Oh My, Love That Vegan Pie! - Edit
Twenty months ago on my first week in Shanghai, I stumbled upon Pie Society and it was an oasis, a haven of something recognisable in a time of adjustment. I'm so glad they finally opened the second location which is far more spacious and offers more vegan options. On my most recent visit I tried the new vegan pie The Fennel Countdown, it was delicious with the sweet potato mash, minted mushy peas and onion gravy. I also tried the vegan pumpkin pie and coconut cream which did not disappoint. If you visit and are lucky enough to run into Jane the owner, say hello, she's a wonderful character with pink hair (currently), a lovely smile and who speaks English with a slight London accent.
Read moreI returned with my entourage on Saturday morning, we had 4 of the vegan breakfasts which is plentiful but you can still add extras like spinach, hash browns etc. The overall consensus was very good, the minor quibbles being the sausage and the steamed veg, but everything else was great. The hash brown, baked beans, mushroom, toast with cashew nut butter, vegan patty, tofu scramble, all so good for a non-vegan place, plus the nice touch of having HP sauce on the table. It's so great to have a place to go for a Western style breakfast and hang out with friends.
There's now a vegan chili using omnipork, I'm not bothered about meat substitutes but this is a tasty chili. Also the pies change seasonally so there's always new ones to try. New vegan cheese and onion pie, a tofu katsu curry, plus an egg upgrade they now use Just plant-protein eggs in their vegan breakfast.
Four of us went to try the vegan Sunday roast in great anticipation & were not disappointed. The roast spuds were perfect, the nut roast was huge and delicious, the portions were generous & vegan Yorkshire puddings, wow! Jane & her amazing crew are doing fantastic vegan food that no one else here is doing, I would give this place 5 stars if I could.
This place does things right, fresh ingredients and made in house, they honestly do better vegan food than some purely vegan places in Shanghai. I tried the new 'Let's Jack' vegan bbq pie, no fake meat, just jack fruit, mushrooms & apricots give it a great texture, the taste was on the sweeter side for me who prefers his bbq more smokey. I'm sure it will be a popular pie this summer, I love the puns & the fact that they regularly create new vegan pies so we're never bored.

Such a happy surprise! - Edit
Despite the lack of comments about this place in the app, I decided to give it a try and I was so surprised for the best! Although it's not fully vegan/vegetarian, it has a fair variety of vegan/vegetarian options that are well noted in the menu (it makes it a lot easier to choose, not having to go through the entire menu), and the food I ordered (some vegan pie) was really really good. The best part of it is that it's the only place I found in downtown (so far) that serves vegan/vegetarian food in traditional English style and good quality western food, it is very refreshing after beingin China for so long. Some of the other vegan places I tried were really good as well, but Asian style. I will definitely be back again, so glad I have found this place just 5 minutes walking from my house. I would of rate it 5 stars if it was possible (it's not possible as this place is not fully vegan/vegetarian).

Great British food - Edit
Good place with authentic food for both vegans and non vegans. Although most are non vegan options there are still plenty of options for vegans, try a pie or bangers and mash, my fave is the full English breakfast of course.

Yum! Serves brunch with vegan options, too. - Edit
My partner and I visited this branch of Pie Society twice (for dinner and brunch) and enjoyed both meals thoroughly. Offers a traditional vegan English breakfast, pumpkin pie, and more.
