Best vegan sandwiches in Melbourne. They blow smith and deli out of the water. The staff is super cool and welcoming. The vibe is perfect. 🤌

Awesome variety! The gluten-free bread is incredible! The salad with added tofu-egg is fresh and the caesar salad is incredibly ‘cheesy’. Haven’t tried any others yet as those two were too good not to pass up again, but will need to go back again to venture out.

Great variety - Edit
The coffee is great and muffins are delicious.
Read moreThere is a good variety of options, with a lot of sweets.
The BLT and B&E sandwiches were too greasy for my taste, but they would probably be great for those who like that sort of thing.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Pros: Coffee, Muffins, Variety of vegan options
Cons: Greasy sandwiches

So cute! - Edit
This was well worth the random adventure to get to - staff were so lovely and the milk bar sandwiches did not disappoint! Tasty and unique. Limited seating so we were lucky to get a table and chairs on a random weekday, but decor and atmosphere is really lovely.

Read moreEnjoyed an excellent iced coffee, along with some fries and potato cakes. My partner ordered a #2 Salad Sandwich but there were a few too many flavours competing for me. We also took home a muffin and a lemon slice, both were good.
Happy to report drinks were served in glassware and not the bioplastic milkshake cups.

A tiny eatery best for takeways as there are only 3 miniscule tables to dine in on. You can also stand and eat at the bar if that's your thing (3 people could eat at the bar). I ordered a potato cake, my first since I first went vegan, almost 13 years ago - it did not disappoint. Crispy and not too oily, just right. I also ordered a Damn Caesar - very good, great flavour combination and excellent bread. However, at $16, it's a rather small sandwich and those with larger appetites would need to order a few sides. The slices on the counter are VERY generously sized and well priced. Milkshakes are $10 and not very large.

Amazing toasties ! I had a b&e and it was so so so yum. I also had a cookie. Toasties are reasonably priced for 2024. The person who served me was bubbly and friendly and it just contributed to an all round super welcoming vibe !

Can be busy, not enough tables inside, but great food - Edit
I went during lunch and the place was very busy. There are three small tables inside that were all occupied. I needed to take the food away but thankfully there are a few parks nearby with seating.

Very good - Edit
Came back and was much more impressed. But again, they had sold out of all sandwiches.
Read more- pizza scroll: yum, so cheesy, more like a lasagna scroll
- beef+eggs wrap: v.enjoyable, fable but stringy texture, bit of chilli gave a nice heat, creamy spinach+ ricotta filling, v.cheesy stringy texture
- Spinach+ricotta roll: yum, lovely lemon flavour, creamy, soft
- Sausage roll: quite dense, has the pea protein-y taste
------
My excitement and high expectations were sadly not met.
- Breakfast pie: must have been there for ages, as it was quite dry. The saving grace was the tofu which had a nice bacon-y taste and smell.
- Polish schnitzel sandwich: sounded nice, but the eggplant scallopini was just a fancy way of saying eggplant with skin on. It would have benefitted greatly from being breaded and fried to more accurately imitate schnitzel. Also, it only tasted of coleslaw, and none of what was described on the menu (hot and sweet jam, mustard, garlic butter). They had also run out of focaccia, so I got the sourdough option.
- Fried dim sim: nice crispy exterior, veggie filling, nothing exciting
- Potato cake: delish
- Cherry & dark chocolate muffin: ok, bit of sourdough texture, bit expensive
I'm still looking forward to trying the other sandwiches on the menu.

Best Vegan Sandwiches in Melbourne! - Edit
My new favourite local sandwich shop, all vegan with some gluten free options available.
Read moreI tried the 'Damn Caesar' ($16) with battered enoki mushrooms, soy bacon, pickled red onion, lettuce, caesar dressing, and dill chimichurri, inside a garlic Turkish bread. It was absolutely delicious and the mushrooms were to die for!
They offer 5-6 different vegan sandwiches both with and without mock meats, and often have a weekly special. Other than the sandwiches they have coffee, fried goods, pies and sausage rolls, and bakery treats.
Note that there is very limited seating inside (only three small tables and a bench) and the atmosphere is incredibly noisy. However there are some grassy areas around to enjoy your sandwich and treats.

Pros: Incredible vegan sandwiches, lovely staff, dog friendly (offer dog treats and drinks)

Maybe should have ordered a sandwich - Edit
It could be that my mistake was not getting a sandwich from a sandwich bar but I’ve always loved spinach and ricotta so I got the spinach and ricotta roll and is was just okay. It was slightly spicy which and the ricotta texture was not great.
Read moreThe oat chocolate also was just fine. Have definitely had better.
Will update if I go back and get a sandwich and get blown away…

I don’t think that any bad food served to you at a sandwich bar is your mistake., sandwich or not.

We got the Gyros with Lamb, the Banh Mi and a Sausage Roll. Sausage roll was rich in herbs and quite tasty but the filling was pretty dense. Both Sandwiches were delicious and flavourful. The foccacia bread on the Gyros was crazy fresh - I could have just eaten 5 more slabs of it on its own!

Deliciously Scrumptious - Edit
First time visiting. Was a find by a non-vegan coeliac friend.
Read moreWe all ordered the Gyro sandwich. Mine had gluten free bun (wow, so soft) and mock lamb.
It was like I had died and gone to Greece. Amazingly garlicy goodness.
The chips were also sensational and a decent size.
I agree with others, it's not really a place to sit and enjoy, as it's loud and provide tiny tables.
Would definitively be coming back here for sure..

10/5. Sooo good. - Edit
I was so looking forward to trying pickles, and I was not disappointed. The sandwich and sausage roll I had was super delicious. The hot breakfast sandwich with tofu bacon is the tastiest sandwich I’ve ever had. The coffee was also really good. The prices are very reasonable, and the staff/owner was delightful. I can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend. 👌🏽

Kinda cool, kinda ok - Edit
The Cafe was nicely noisy with the general 'I'm starving and there's food coming' excitement and the odd dog arooo-ing. The counter team was juggling a million orders and being helpful (they were pretty amazing at it), but I have to say my order was meh. Salad was over salty and swimming in dressing, so lost the lettuce crispyness I was hoping for. Chips were alright (chips are chips), and the spiced pear soda was not bad.

Yes everybody seems to go ape-sh*t over this place but I have my reservations. I’d like to see them serve sandwiches on plates instead of always in takeaway packaging. I think the “milk bar” eatery ticks a lot of hipster boxes.

I got a caprese melt and my sister got the salad sandwich. Seems like There’s a good variety of sandwiches. $12 for mine which is a fair price especially since it contained x2 types of vegan cheese. Food came out fresh and hot. The star moment in my sandwich was the pickled tomato. I can’t say I’ve ever had one before but holy moly it was sour and delicious.

OMG! My new fav lunch place - Edit
Went here today with my partner and our pooch. An all vegan place in Carlton North? Hurrah.

- Hot breakfast roll (facon, hashbrowns and other yummys)
- Caesar snack wrap (delicious chicken-style wrap_

Everyone loved their meal and drink, including our pooch. Will definitely be back soon. Shame there's not much seating, but we went to Princes Hill (at the intersection you'll see the grassy wide median strip park) and ate there on one of the benches. Lovely!
