I recently made a special trip (40 minutes by subway!) and it was well worth it. On a bright corner on the border of Chinatown & the LES, Petisco Vegano serves up excellent, creative, plant-based dishes with warm and friendly service.
Read moreThe menu offers great variety: breakfast dishes until late afternoon, soups, salads, mezzes, bowls, sandwiches, tacos, baked goods, and on. They also have a nice wine and liquor list. I will definitely be back to try brunch and dinner.
Pros: 100% Plant-based, Excellent quality, Nice variety of offerings

Great decor. Some dishes amazing, but overall mixed. - Edit

Read morePetisco Vegano is a cute little cafe next to the East Broadway subway. When I walk into a restaurant, I always go in with the intention of giving a great tip. If service doesn't meet those standards, I begin deducting from that higher percentage.
When I arrived, the restaurant was mostly empty and I was given this wonderful zatar bread with 3 beautiful chutneys. I definitely could have had just that for dinner.
My appetizer was tres tacos. Being from California, my experience with east coast Mexican food has definitely been mixed. But these tacos were amazing. The filling was rich and tasty, the avocados and vegetables were fresh and ripe. Definitely top tier.
At this point the restaurant began filling up for Friday night dinner and the wait staff consisted of 2. The waiter seemed to be consumed with training the waitress that was also serving more than half the restaurant. I would have asked what the taco filling was made with, if they hadn't ignored me for the rest of my dinner. I began deducting the tip here.
As amazing as the tacos were, the shawarma wrap for my main was disappointing. The filling was good, but average. The wrap was a soft filo dough. After the first bite, the pastry flakes were EVERWHERE. It was so flaky and soft. Definitely the wrong choice for this dish. By the end, the table, and my lap, were covered in pastry flakes.
The cheesecake was good. It took me 15 minutes to ask for my bill. I only tipped 10%.
Conclusion: Great decor. Some dishes amazing, but overall mixed. Service disappointed.

Great food, service hit or miss - Edit
Visited for a weekend brunch. The place was half full, we were seated and ordered quickly and then waited 25 minutes for food to arrive. Not sure if kitchen is understaffed or some other problem caused the delay. The food, however, was great. Good beyond burger, good breakfast sandwich, great fries, and particularly the malawakh which was like a filo dough pizza topped with vegan egg, spices and tahini. Will go back again, and will update if the service experience improves.

Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere - Edit
The food is not limited to a specific cuisine - it’s a little all over the map. But it’s all delicious. The drinks were great, the pre-meal bread was amazing - delicious and fresh with delightful sauces. The gluten free members of our party got gluten free bread (with a separate sauce dish) so that they could enjoy the sauces and bread with us. I thought that was a nice touch. I quite enjoyed my coconut fried tofu, but I think the best entree we ordered was the enchilada casserole. The dessert was to die for - the halva dish in particular.

Amazing Flavors! - Edit
I tried this new joint last weekend for a late night Saturday dinner. It's a cozy spot with charming decor. Great for vegan dates ;).
Read moreThe food was really inventive, and incredibly flavorful. Delicious flatbread and sauces complimentary with the meal. I shared the app sampler (it has a better name but it escapes me now) and an incredible enchilada that had about 20 different ingredients. The presentation is top notch and the food is delicious. It's seems to be a fusion of Mediterranean and Mexican - well at least has primarily those dishes, I can't say they are fused exactly. Anyway... I recommend!
Pros: Cozy, Great food, Nice Atomosphere
Cons: Got a little chilly by the window, Service wasn't super attentive.

Delicious and Newly All-Vegan! - Edit
I visited NYC for 5 days earlier this month, and 3 out of those 5 days, I ate a meal at Petisco Vegano! Once for dinner, twice for breakfast. It was incredibly delicious, and the staff was very kind (as well as attractive, I must add, lol). For dinner, I ordered the shawarma laffa; for the first breakfast, I ordered the apple-almond oat pancakes (pictured below); and for the second breakfast, I ordered the cold brew overnight oats. I'd highly recommend all three of these dishes! The shawarma laffa was full of flavor, and the malawa bread it was wrapped in was unlike anything I've ever had (doughy and flaky). The pancakes were moist and just sweet enough. The cold brew oats were creamy and wholesome. So, so good!!

Delicious! Amazing! Wow! - Edit
Love this place. Delicious food. Cute restaurant. Great brunch spot. I had the enchilada and it was divine. This is a regular restaurant that closed for a short while and reopened as a vegan restaurant. Please support them for making this change. Sadly it was always packed before and now, lots of empty seats. I hope they build a strong base of clients. The food really is excellent.

Laid-back diner - Edit
This is an all-vegan diner in the deep-part of Chinatown/Lower East Side. It is a bit hard to find (especially since there is no clear sign on the outside window or awning); you can find it if you go all the way to the east end of Canal Street, and when you can't go any further, cross the street. In any case, the food here is very good--nice diner-type food, except much better.
Read morePros: Tasty!, Nice service, relaxed atmosphere.
Cons: Not particularly cheap , Not speedy service (but fine for relaxed meal), Not super healthy
