How can a vegetarian place show so little interest in vegetables? - Edit
We came here for dinner in December 2023.

1. Portobello Fries w/ a chipotle lime aioli
- the aioli tasted like sour yogurt or something, and had an almost watery texture. The actual mushrooms were decent. I think we assumed it was vegan aioli, but looking at the menu now I think we were wrong.
2. Fried Oyster Mushroom Po' Boy
- the menu said this has bibb lettuce, but it was fast food quality iceberg lettuce. Maybe they were out, but the iceberg lettuce was gross. The mushrooms were alright but not as good as the portabello fries. The bread was low quality.
3. Caramelized Onion Burger
- The burger was fine, but the bun was soggy. We got it with a salad and the salad was the kind I would expect from a bad pizzeria. Like, iceberg lettuce, quarter tomato slices, and red onion.
If you are at a vegetarian restaurant and the worst part of your food is the vegetable quality, something is deeply wrong.

Vegan friendly vegetarian bar - Edit
As folks have said here, it is a bit pricey, but the food is awesome and the drinks are great. We have gotten take out here several times throughout the pandemic, but now that restrictions are lifting, we decided to spend our night (and our money) supporting a local vegetarian business. The cocktails are well crafted and very interesting. We got the pad Thai tots, which were delicious, but honestly didn’t taste that much like pad Thai. There was Buffalo hot sauce on them. My sis in law’s pro tip is to order this app but ask for fries instead of tots. I enjoyed the tots but will try this next time.
Read moreFor entrees, my husband got the portobello quinoa dish with tempura asparagus. We have never had tempura asparagus. It was so good! The asparagus was crisp but still cooked. We told the waiter that the asparagus should be its own side dish on the menu, it was so good. Warning that the quinoa was super hot when it came out. Not a complaint, just a warning!
I got the sandwich with fries, which is really tasty! The portions at this restaurant are very generous.
For precautions, there is plexiglass between the booths in the dining area. There is also outdoor dining, but not table service outside.
Pros: Vegetarian bar , food can easily be made vegan/is well marked , Delicious

Luckily we got there early enough to beat the crowd and get a seat! Can get packed late night, but food is amazing and atmosphere is totally chill. Can’t wait to go back!!

I have been here a bunch of times now and it’s always great. One thing about being veg (and health conscious) is that I can’t just grab a burger and/or nachos at the local bar. Not the case here where I can order just about anything and it’s very good. The nachos with cashew cheese are everything I want and the jalapeno Impossible burger was very nicely done. Also, the staff is extraordinarily attentive and nice.

I almost could not believe what I was reading when I heard a bar with an entirely vegetarian menu had opened in Jersey City. We went there that very night!
Read morePet Shop is so much hipper than I am. Grungy-cool ambiance, with kitschy paintings of animals, vintage-y furniture, and a photo booth. Interesting beers at the bar served by interesting people. A chill wine bar in the basement. And best of all, TWO often-updated menus, one upstairs and one downstairs, and all vegetarian. The buffalo cauliflower is my absolute fave which I get every time I am there. The sandwiches have been fantastic, the poutine is salty and naughty, the grilled cheese was particularly delicious. The menu downstairs is slightly more upscale to match the really cool, unique wine selections.
Not that they need it, because they're doing great, but please check out this fantastic concept. We need more vegetarian restaurants in JC period, and a vegetarian bar ... how awesome is that?!
Pros: IT'S A VEGETARIAN BAR!, Easy to find street parking, Plenty of vegan options
Cons: Used to be an actual pet shop, that bums some out
