Vegan Heaven!

What a treat! Amazing representation of many vegan businesses in Portland. We are visiting for the month and loved being able to find incredible products and foods in every category from grab n go to frozen. We were impressed by how many vegan pastry treats were available and the produce, delicioso!!!
Special place to visit for either a drop by or on going shopping.

Pros: Availability of Portland Vegan products, Priced right, Caring and attentive staff

Neat hidden gem in P-town

I stopped by this one on my way to an event (planned stop), and wanted to check out the market. They have good stuff that vegans and vegetarians would want. Through it’s a relatively small store, they have some unique items that I did not find in other places. I bought Rebbl’s Focus Matcha Latte to boot myself up for the event as well as Quinn’s Pizzeria Cheezy pretzel nuggets. This is a nice store with friendly employees, but I don’t think I would bother coming back, unless I want to try something else at the Poppy’s food cart. The price is quite high..

Pros: Nice selections, quite a few not found elsewhere, Friendly employees (are coop always like this?)

Cons: Prices are a bit higher than some stores, Where veg folks gathers and meets

Best Produce in PDX!

I have been shopping at People's since 2011. They consistently offer the best produce in Portland. The staff is always exceptionally kind, educated and informative. Don't be fooled by the size of the place, their bulk section is spectacular! Every Wednesday they have a year round Farmer's Market - definitely check it out!

Pros: Best produce in PDX, Kind staff, Excellent selection of local foods

amazing co-op in the SE that has been around a long time

Summertime rolls…Jane’s Addiction harmony in my head

On a holiday in the sun like Weezer in the lovely Pacific NW in the Summertime decided to do a yatra aka pilgrimage to People’s Co-op. I lived walking distance from People’s Co-op circa 2004 where I lived right across from the now defunct all vegan coffeeshop aka Red and Black. In 2004-2005 I was a working member cleaning the bulk bins as my seva aka service.

This is where I first started teaching yoga at the community room upstairs at People’s Co-op. Dusty started the program that sadly is no longer currently active. They had some great classes there and have fond memories of a Iyenger influenced yoga teacher that taught classes I liked. This was when I was teaching classical hatha yoga and had not yet shifted my yoga teaching to the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition.

Fast forward to the moment of Jun 20223. It’s the return and went to People’s Co-op. It still is an amazing place. They have a farmer’s market here every Wed. Their bulk selection is amazing (see my photos) and so is there produce. Friendly and helpful staff. Afterwards go to Belmont for heaps of plant based, vegetable forward, tasty, amazing vegan restaurants and food trucks that are amazing. Vegan bars, vegan food trucks, innovative vegan restaurants like Fermenter, and more that will satisfy all folks who follow whatever diet from vegan to paleo to gluten-free to omnivore.

Pros: friendly staff, amazing bulk section, farmer's market on Wed

Cons: no yoga and movement classes currently

Pantry for the People

I've had a membership for a few years. I mostly buy produce and bulk items, so I appreciate that I can use my own containers.

Note: The store is currently vegetarian, but every year, they have a survey asking if they should sell meat.

Pros: organic produce, bulk items, member-owned

Cons: considers selling meat

My new favorite store

So glad I found this little gem. They pack so many good quality items into a small space. The produce is organic and not wrapped in plastic or other unnecessary packaging. It makes me happy to visit this place. I live 3 blocks from a natural food grocery store but would rather go over a mile to this place.

Our favorite grocery store in Portland.

We have so many options for health food stores in Portland, with several national chains and one local chain (that's no longer locally owned.) So why is People's still our favorite? Because it's vegetarian, the produce is all organic, the extensive bulk section is the best priced in town, and all of the products are vetted by a knowledgable staff so that we're not left guessing about ethical sourcing. And it's an actual co-op, owned by it's membership! The wednesday organic farmers market with local farms and makers is icing on the cake.

Love This 100% Veg Co-op

This co-op is one of a handful of 100% veg Co-ops in the country. It has an artsy exterior and is the home of the original Sip juice cart located out front. There is a good selection of all the staples you need to stock your pantry and fridge. The staff is friendly and helpful. I had fun buying what I needed to stock the kitchen during my month long stay in Portland.

Pros: 100% veg store, Cooperatively-owned business, Great selection for a small store

Loved this store

This place is not big but is pretty amazing. It had a fun, local community vibe to it that I really liked. The bulk section alone was worth the trek from downtown. Raw vegan crackers and granola in bulk? Yes please! The general selection was also remarkable for the store size; I saw some neat products that the other similar grocery stores didn't seem to have. The staff was very friendly as well. What else could one ask for?

Pros: bulk section, friendly staff

neat little co-op

This place is not that big, but its a nice establishment and the best part is that SIP the vegan milkshake car is in the courtyard. They have a good selection of vegan cookies / vegan buttery spread / local vegan truffles, etc.

Pros: SIP

Best co-op in town!

People's is a model co-op-- they really take advantage of the space they have. Their produce is primarily local and thus usually priced well. (You can even check out their weekly specials online.) Their bulk section is *amazing*! From the standard dry goods, to vinegars and oils, to herbs and spices, to miso and hemp seed in the fridge, they have most things covered. A small section of the store is dedicated to packaged raw foods, and they carry a nice selection of organic beer and wine. Every Wednesday they host an all-organic Farmer's Market (even in the Winter). People's is the place to go when you need food, and can't handle the crowds or florescent lights of other stores. I've left many times feeling better than when I went in. They're open until 10 pm every night, and are open on most holidays (when even major grocery chains are closed.) Check out the beautiful cob architecture when you go, it definitely adds to the calming vibes.

Pros: produce prices, extensive bulk section, calm

Cons: **
