Located in a historic speakeasy in San Francisco's old Latin Quarter, 'Peña' means a circle of people coming together and 'Pachamama' means Mother Earth. In early 2023, the restaurant was certified as a Legacy Business in the City of San Francisco in recognition of its long history of service to the community and for being a valuable cultural asset and a part of the 'Soul of the City'. Peña Pachamama is the only vegan restaurant that is a Legacy Business in San Francisco. The restaurant serves organic vegan South American cuisine with live performances after dinner on weekends. The menu is half raw and half cooked, and mostly gluten-free. Uses all organic produce and only extra virgin olive oil or organic coconut oil in dishes. The kitchen makes vegan ice cream and raw kale chips in-house. Serves a selection of cocktails, wines, and sangria. Visit web calendar for schedule of live entertainment events. Open Mon-Thu 4:30pm-9:00pm, Fri-Sat 4:30pm-10:30pm. Closed Sun.

Good food, amazing atmosphere! - Edit
I had the kale chips, pizza, the chef’s plate, brownie with ice cream and white chocolate cheesecake - all pretty good, Bolivian inspired food. They had live music and dance - that part was actually more fulfilling for me than the food. Highly recommend it. 💚

Show was very fun, food disappointing. - Edit
We came for the South American dancing and signing show, which was great fun. Food was overall a little average. The mezze starter was alright. Mains - the veggie grill was lovely. The spicy pasta was particularly bad (flavourless and cold) but Sangria was good. Food quite expensive but for a family business you don’t begrudge too much. Would have loved more traditional dishes (not pasta, burgers etc).

Best vegan burger in SF - Edit
In the historic North Beach building where Marilyn Monroe & Joe DiMaggio had their dinner after being married you will find Pena Panchamama.
Read moreInside the atmosphere is colorful w/ an artistic flair. The menu features a Latin fusion influence of cooked & raw vegan cuisine that is local, organic & gluten-free.
The owners are welcoming & hail from Bolivia. The restaurant is comfortable w/ a relaxed atmosphere. Everything on the menu looked good. Too much choice can be cumbersome.
Decided to go w/ the vegan cheeseburger & roasted potatoes: housemate beet lentil patty, nut cheese, tomato, Bubbies organic pickles, lettuce, served w/ roasted potatoes & cashew cream sauce on a gluten-free bun.
Salad had a light dressing w/ a bite from the arugula, potatoes were a nice side as the cashew cream sauce was an interesting touch. Loved the veggie burger. Have a hearty appetite & didn't look like it was going to be filling yet was satisfying.
Appreciate that it is a homemade beet lentil veggie burger patty.
Would rather folks consume the new Beyond Meat vegan burgers that bleed as opposed to burgers made from cows. Homemade veggie burgers from real whole food is my preference as am not a big fan of faux or mock meats.
Executive Chef Quentin Navia knows his stuff.
Best vegan burger I have had in the SF Bay Area hence 5 stars!
Pros: Best vegan burger in SF, historic building

Good - Edit
The food was good, the server nice and the place clean. It just felt a little overpriced given the quality of the food.

Delicious Pique Macho - Edit
Veggies grilled just right with perfectly spiced plant-based chorizo. Followed up with dreamy Chocolate pecan brownie and some yummy cashew based vanilla ice cream. The restaurant had a cool South American vibe and great music. Unfortunately missed seeing a live show since it was a Thursday.

High vibrational vegan food at its finest - Edit
The venue had this higher frequency fit for healthy beings. The energy inside this venue was such an amazing vibration. The food was so delicious. I loved the Raw Corn Tacos, the flavors were perfectly balanced. Geronimo puts so much love in his cooking and his service was amazing as well. Another hit with me and my date were the yuca fries. And the Bolivian Pique Macho was a plate grilled to perfection. A place like this should be packed every night. I will definitely be back.

Live music and great food - Edit
This place is pricey, but not really for the city. It feels like a hole in the wall place is why I expected low prices, but it is so much more than that. The place is adorable and has live music and dancers and the food was so flavorful. I loved the Bolivian dishes!

Friendly server, disappointing food - Edit
I’ll start with the positive. The kale chips are the best I’ve ever had and our server was very friendly.
Read moreNow the rest. Although we were the only people in the entire restaurant, the food wasn’t fresh. The yuca was cold and undercooked and the potatoes that came with the my burger seemed like they were a day old. Very cold, hard, and chewy. The empanadas were basically flavorless and crust was stiff, almost stale. The burger was decent but for the price not worth it at all.
I left with a stomach cramp that lasted throughout the night.
I wanted to like this place so much, but I was so disappointed that I won’t be going back.
Pros: Kale chips , Friendly server
Cons: Price, Cold, stale food
