Not Worth It

To start the food wasn’t as great, I’ve definitely had better vegan Mexican food at Taco Bell. They’re very over priced. The service was okay, they seemed to be knowledgeable when it came to Veganism and what it entailed. Aside from the food not being as tasty, they took forever to bring our food out. A much larger party that was seated after us got their entire order before we got ours. I called ahead of time to double check the rice (presumably Mexican rice) and beans were vegan, they let me know that all of their items are cooked in canola oil and that no lard was used at all in the restaurant...what they failed to mention was the rice. The only vegan rice is White Rice. The Mexican rice is made with chicken bouillon. With that being said, we ordered off the “vegetarian” menu and made changes to Veganize it (no cheese/sour cream/sub for white rice, etc) they still somehow managed to mess up my order and left in the Mexican rice which is not vegan. They quickly brought out a fresh remake but by that time I was already grossed out from eating non-vegan food. They were kind enough to remove the order from our tab. All in all, I won’t be going back there.

Pros: Knowledgeable about veganism

Cons: Pricey, No vegan rice, Long wait time to get meals

Sounds to me like maybe they aren't as knowledgeable about vegan food. Or, perhaps they just don't have a lot of vegans coming in so they are lacking experience. I've learned to not only ask about meat/lard in the ingredients or cooking process but also about chicken bullion, gelatin, sugar, enzymes, natural flavors, etc, esp in tortillas. If they don't know I request their ingredient list and most of the time, the servers are very understanding and end up appreciating that they learned something new, and some have even said they'll share it with the team for future vegan customers.
