Beware no longer 100% vegan - Edit
New owners. They are adding non vegan items to the menu and they are sneaky about it.

Transitioning away from vegan - Edit
I just popped into Paper Moon in Annerley as I'm visiting Brisbane and had never been in there before.
Read moreAll of the food in the cases was vegan but they had non-vegan donuts under a glass cover on top of the case. They also serve cow milk which I believe they have been doing for a while.
I was confused as their Instagram profile picture still states 100% vegan. I asked the server and she told me they are the new owners (about two weeks) and she doesn't know how to change the profile picture!
I asked if they would be keeping all of the main food case completely vegan and she said no. She also explained that they are not vegan themselves and are in fact dairy farmers so it's not their focus. They will apparently keep vegan options but will shortly start introducing non-vegan food into the main selection.
The food I had today was nice (vegan steak, mash, and gravy pie plus a double choc lamington) but I don't think I would make the effort to go back there knowing that it is owned by non-vegan dairy farmers!
Pros: Tasty food, Comfortable space, Back garden area
Cons: Confusing old signs saying 100% vegan (not true), Dairy farmer owners, PLans to have less vegan options

What I was craving - Edit
Friendly service, lovely atmosphere and delish food. The mushroom pie wins along with the pistachio croissant. Coffee was great and perfect temperature.

The first time I enjoyed being Mooned - Edit
Visited Paper Moon again after many years and were impressed beyond our expectations. The staff member was friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the menu and recommended visiting earlier in the day next time so there would be more products in the hot cabinet to choose from.
Read moreCosy couches, pool table, vintage juke box and lots of board games.
We had a GF satay sweet potato pie and a vegan almond pistachio croissant.
The pie was flavourful, high quality and had obviously been made with love. It was piping hot from the warm cabinet.
The croissant increased dough-pamine levels and has us already planning our next visit. Make sure to try it toasted!
The place was packed with regulars and I understand why it has such a loyal local following.
To cap off it's quaint charm, it even backs onto Drury Lane, and yes, we asked - they do know the Muffin Man!

Games and pool table for entertainment. Super friendly staff and a lovely retro relaxed vibe. They also hire out the venue for gatherings.

Turned their backs on the animals - Edit
Used to be a fully vegan cafe. They've now started selling cow's milk. Very sad to see businesses moving backwards like this. I can't in good conscience continue to go there and support their decision contribute to animal suffering.

Cosy hang out - Edit
Hung out here before my flight back home, I had a pie, hot chocolate and a biscoff cake and they all tasted very nice. I love that they have a pool table and board games so you can hang out for a while there. Staff were really friendly too

Nice for coffee and cake or pie - Edit
Some really great decadent cakes and slices. Great for coffee and a cake …or a pie. Has a really funky vibe. Pool table, games, bit of fun. Not good for a lunch meetup or hearty meal. We had the snickers pie, was really rich so shared it . Delicious.

Friendly, funky and fresh - Edit
Stopped here for a pie and salad and we were very impressed. Limited food options from the counter only but all very fresh and tasty. The balsamic mushroom pie had very flaky pastry and the buckwheat salad was definitely fresh and homemade. Very friendly staff and very helpful.

A delightful discovery - Edit
Just discovered this delightful café/coffee house. Inside and outside eating in colourful pleasant settings. Terrific, friendly, easy to related to staff and a fabulous selection of vegan pies. The café is ENTIRELY vegan. A selections of salad items as well and cakes is appealing. Chai latte with almond milk my preference and it was great. Decor is colourful and interesting and the café includes interesting nooks for those seeking quiet conversation. A quirky addition is a quarter pool table. It'll please some.

Not enough food options at all. This is a snack only cafe. Went looking for lunch at about 1pm. Petty much nothing left to eat, of the megre options they had in the first place. Go somewhere else.

Best atmosphere you'll ever experience - Edit
This was easily the best experience I've had at a cafe period. Sitting out the back in the courtyard was so chill, the music wasn't loud (perfect volume), heaps of greenery and plenty of places to sit. The people were rediculously friendly, clearly loved being there and made you feel so welcome. Then of course there is the food, easily the best Vegan nachos I've ever had, the burger was super joicy and the Mac & Cheese, oh my god I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did (definitely get the pumkin on top.

Nice spot but food is bland - Edit
I hate leaving negative reviews for vegan places as I try to support them all. Great spot, friendly staff, good prices, food looked great but......it was so bland! No flavour. I ordered the Amelie which is tofu, hash browns, croissant. Possibly the worst scrambled tofu I've had. It had no seasoning...was runny....tasted like raw egg whites. And I love scrambled tofu I eat it almost everyday. Hash brown looked great but was so bland. Almost felt like the food didn't even have salt. Perhaps it was just an off morning for them. I might be willing to try it again, maybe a different item but yeah my experience was pretty disappointing

Tasty - Edit
Always new options and specials. Totally vegan menu including the milks in the cafe. My favourite is the mac n cheeze pasta with pumpkin. Food can sometimes be a little cold or cool quickly but the people serving are always so friendly and helpful. They also have a cake cabinet.
