every vegan/vegetarians nightmare (found meat in dish) - Edit
I was having the Singapore Curry and ready to write a review about how good it was afterwards when my girlfriend found a piece of meat in her stir fry.
We knew this could now go either way, so trying not to be the 'obnoxious, difficult vegans' we informed the waiter. He allegedly checked with the cook who told him 'it's a piece of Japanese mushroom'. The piece was clearly NOT mushroom (see photo I uploaded) and weirdly enough there was only 1 piece of said mushroom in the dish. Her mother had the same dish without. I should also mention 3 of us on the table lived in Japan for a while. The waiter stated he believed the cook and it's mushroom, period. When we asked him to see more of these mushrooms he produced a Tupperware box with Shiitake mushrooms that looked nothing like the piece found in the stir fry. He stated it's been a thicker slice heavily fried. At this point it stared to get ridiculous. To avoid further conflict I stated 'everyone can make mistakes' and even though I think 'the customer is always right' is outdated and over the top I also think it's a bit insulting that he then implied that it's us who made the mistake when it clearly was a piece of old meat that somehow ended up in the dish. That alone makes you wonder about the sanitary situation in their kitchen. In all fairness when I'm told him we're not gonna pay for that dish they 'accepted' my proposal still maintaining it's not their fault. IMHO any other decent place would have been apologetic, offering a far more customer centric solution by themselves to avoid negative feedback. That basically ruined the evening for all of us, which is why I can only give them negative feedback.
Has a key on menu of what allergies are in each meal. Can be a bit tedious going back and forth to look at them. If you ask what can be made vegan the staff can tell you. I personally find it a little annoying but once you get there - the food it good! Wish there was more drink choices (no cider)
