Fly infested and smelled like dog poop
Brought the entire family for dinner and am still sick to my stomach. It smelled like dog poop on the way into the “beer garden” and I noticed a small poop shovel near the trash can at the entrance. The flies weren’t such a big problem until our meal came at which time we were swarmed. We couldn’t swat them away with the left hand faster than we could eat with the right. I counted seven landing on my slaw just while I tried eating my fish alone. I discreetly went inside to speak with the manager (and happened to be the owner) who admitted that he knew it was a problem where we were seated but sat us there anyways, wanting to know if what I wanted him to do about it (sarcastically). It become clear he wasn’t a professional so I just went back to the table and found almost the whole party ready to vomit in their entrees. I noticed on the way out that his beer garden is bordered by a campgrounds’ dog park (hence the poop smell, poop shovel and fly problem). Filing a health complaint tomorrow.
Pros: Server tried hard to compensate for the manager
Cons: Flies in the food, Hair in the food, Poop smell

This is Joe the owner I will continue to respond as you continue to post on every platform possible to hurt us. Also, before I address this post I am going to openly admit that the flies can be a problem during hot summer nights. They have been particularly a problem this week since we had a record rainfall 10 days ago and we are experiencing heat indexes around 100 and high humidity on top of that.
Now I will address the post: I was in the main dining room when I noticed a woman wandering around, so I asked her if she needed assistance. She said she was eating outside and she comment that the food was amazing and so was the service (GO Sergii!). Then she commented that the flies were really bad, and asked if I could do something about them. I explained to her the comments above (rain, heat, etc) and I suggested to her that we move her and her family inside. She looked at me and said, "so that is your solution?". I said yes. She then went on a rant about I should have a better solution. I responded that nature was bigger than her or I and that the flies are really bad now and moving inside was the best solution. Then she said threateningly, "well maybe I should call the health department on you and they can give you some solutions." I was a little in shock, I thought that moving inside was the best way to go. I responded, "you are welcome to call the health department but they are the ones pushing us to open outdoor dining due to Covid." She stomped off. Some of my staff was standing by and their jaws were on the floor.
So I went out to their table. I thought well maybe there is someone at the table more reasonable, and would see the wisdom in moving inside. I approached the table (yes the flies were particularly bad that evening) and again said, "folks it will only take a minute to move you inside." What happened next was even stranger than what happened inside. I assume it was the husband and parents at the table, but they all started telling me what I should do to fix the problem (they asked me if I had some screening to put around them, large fly swatter, more fans, etc). I had none of those items on me and in the middle of a busy dinner service was no time to start a construction project. I simply said, "guys, moving inside is the best solution I have for you." Then the table began to comment how I did not care about the situation and how I had sat them back there on purpose. *Full response on Yelp to the situation. Thank you

*PLEASE NOTE THIS TABLE WAS NOT VEGAN* This woman made a Happy Cow account just to continue a hate spree she has going on against Pangea Tavern. We tried everything possible to help make this table happy, but sometimes there is only so much you can do and it is up to the individual to choose happiness and solutions you offer. I just wanted to let all my other vegan loves out there know, that this table was not vegan but we send them love and healing on this journey

Manager wasn’t nice - Edit
Thai curry was sub par. Veggies weren’t marinated then put over white rice with store bought curry sauce. Nothing special and certainly not worth $20. When I complained he verified that I read the menu and offered 10% off. Just not what I am used to.

*This is the customer & partner of Bret who has shared this review on almost every account of ours, so I will continue to respond with our side of the story.* *Also, our curry is homemade from scratch daily with fresh veggies and spiced to your liking, not store bought.* This is Joe, the owner responding. My father always told me, "there are three sides to every story. Yours, mine and the truth". So you have given your side of the story. Now I will give mine. It is up to the reader to decide upon what they believe is the truth. The short version is, you and your wife/girlfriend/partner came in for your dinner reservation. You both ordered vegan options off our menu. You both ate all your meal with the exception of a small portion of the Coconut Curry which you had placed in a To-Go container. I checked on you mid-dinner and you both said everything was fine. The server checked on you multiple times during dinner without any complaints. It was only after you received the check that you were unsatisfied. The sever asked me to speak to you at the table. When I approached you to inquire what was the issue, you simply stated that you did not think the meals were worth $20. You said that you go to Thai and Mediterranean restaurants from time to time and that our dishes were not what you expected. I asked you how did you find out about Pangea and knew to make reservations. You said you were on our website. I asked you if you had looked at our menu. You said yes. That you came to Pangea for our vegan options. I asked you if you had received menus when you were seated. You said yes. I pointed out that our menu has detailed descriptions and prices listed on them. You simply replied that you did not think the dishes were worth $20. I asked you if you were a restaurant owner? You said no. It was then that I said, "you know, it is interesting to me that you made the choices you did, ate practically all your dinner, never said a word until you received your bill. It seems to me you just want something for nothing." I offered you a 10% discount as you seemed motivated to negotiate. It was then that you got visably frustrated and said, "No! we will pay our bill and leave bad reviews". So there we go readers. That is my side of the story. Thank you all for taking the time to read, and we truly hope to see you at Pangea Tavern if you enjoy delicious vegan options and service with care.
