Chilled Out Hideaway

Kept returning to Orion during our stay at Srithanu: the menu was extensive with a dizzying array of vegan options, food was delicious, ambience was great and the view was beautiful.

Pros: Variety of options, Quality of food, Location

Cons: None

Wonderful place with sea-view

The Orion Healing Center is a nice place to be, everytime my boyfriend and I went there, we immediately felt the positive energy around us!
We went there several times to fill up our water bottles (You can fill up your "trash hero" waterbottles for free at many places on the island - We really love the Trash Hero - Project)
and also for breakfast and one time for dinner.
Breakfast was very good, I enjoyed a green smoothie bowl with granola. My boyfriend had the chia pudding but he didn't like the taste so much.
Our Dinner was raw vegan pad thai and raw pesto noodles: We both didn't like it SO much. Maybe it's because they don't use so much spices for example like salt or something (which is good & healthy but sometimes a bit low in taste)
All in all, I would recommend to visit Orion Cafe if you stay in Koh Phangan, just to feel the vibes - you can have an abundance of smoothies, juices and other stuff if you don't want to eat much.

Pros: Friendly Staff, Great place, Smoothie bowls

Cons: food was ok- but maybe it's just a matter of taste

crowded

The place is beautiful in front of the sea in the nature . The problem is that is full of mosquitoes and often overcrowded . You have to queue to order your food and it's not so relaxing because you have to wait and if you want more you have to go again . Often the service is slow and they make mistakes about your orders . The food is good . The pesto spaghetti , the hummus and the tempeh burger were delicious. Also raw cakes .

slow service

I ordered the falafel sandwich, which literally consisted of two pieces of falafel, hummus, and one piece of lettuce for 220 baht. It took more than half an hour to make. When I asked about the side salad it was supposed to come with I was told that it was already on the sandwich? They weren't even willing to give me a part of the money back.

Great setting

The restaurant of the yoga and detox retreat center, so it has a very chill and peaceful vibe as expected. As the center attracts westerners the world over for expensive retreats, and as the setting is A1 (practically on the beach in a quiet bay), the restaurant prices are accordingly high. For example, many main dishes like burritos were pushing 250 baht. However, we pieced together a couple of smaller and cheaper items and some rice and made a meal out of it. The hummus was excellent (we requested it without the oil they normally drizzle on top), as was the morning glory (aka swamp cabbage in the US) and mushroom dish. Heaps of vegan options. Great food, beautiful setting, definitely recommend.

Pros: Great food (heaps of vegan options), Beautiful setting, Chill vibe

Cons: Price, Not entirely vegan

Bowls as big as your head

If you are on the island and are up north for yoga or have a half day and a scooter, definitely check out Orion Cafe.

Peaceful location, huge portions and vegan ice cream!

Definitely get the Buddha Bowl if they have it. So good. So big.

Pros: HUGE portions, Location

Delicious breakfasts but confusing menu

Orion Cafe is located just south of Srithanu in a little bay. As you travel south out of Srithanu, at the point the road curves to the left, turn into the small road on the right and follow it round the corner. It is attached to a yoga school and most of the clientele appear to come from there. The atmosphere is very relaxed and peaceful. There is ample seating in a covered outdoor area which overlooks the bay.

Orion Cafe is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I visited several times during my time on Kho Phangan for breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, I ordered the Chia Bomb, Fresh Fruit Salad and coffee. The food was outstanding but the coffee was very weak. For lunch, I ordered a burger which was absolutely delicious. I tried various smoothies which were all excellent.

The menu is very confusing with too many options spread over too many pages in the smallest font imaginable. They should try to replicate Karma Kafe’s clear, concise and attractive menu style.

Prices are comparable to other vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Srithanu which can be summarised as very cheap by UK standards but expensive by Thai standards.

I thoroughly recommend Orion Cafe for breakfast and it is worth considering for lunch and dinner if you have tried the other vegetarian restaurants in Srithanu.

Pros: Healthy, Good Portion Size, Delicious

Cons: Confusing Menu, Staff Don't Speak Great English

Good, could be better

Been here a couple of times when staying in Koh Phangan. The first time i was here i loved the atmosphere, very chill and relaxed, beautiful location. The mushroom burger was divine , starting with the fluffy wholewheat bun and finishing with a great fresh salad to accompany it. The papaya salad was so so , nothing special so as the falafel burger. Massaman curry was really good, thick, creamy with a lot of vegetables and a great depth of flavours.
The second time i came around was not as good. I ordered mango salad which was great except for the amount of olive oil in it... And the Zen bowl , was the worst of the worst, there was so much oil , soba noodles and broccoli were swimming in an huge puddle of oil , i don't think i have ever consumed so much oil in one dish ever in my life...Very disappointed...
Both times i was here thai staff was completely ruining the chill atmosphere, shouting the orders and shouting at each other... it was ridiculous...Having in mind the peaceful surroundings and people. All in all, this place has a great perspective, but there is room for improvement.

Pros: Great location, Good menu

Cons: OILY !!!!!!!, Shouting staff, Expensive

Delicious food, relaxing space!!

I shared the vegan omelet made of chickpea flour and Tex-mex fried rice--fantastic!! Sorry this is my last night on Phangan, because I'd be back for this omelet! Vegan Raspberry chocolate cheesecake for dessert, also very good.

wow!

Loved the food! Yes, it's expensive but for what you get it's totally worth it. The portions are really big. The Massaman curry was the best I've ever had! We also had the hummus with freshly baked flatbread. A bit too oily for my taste though. The spicy mushroom stir fry was great, too. Just go and eat till you can't walk anymore (come by scooter!) :)

Pros: a m a z i n g food , nice atmosphere at the beach

Cons: pricey

A bit expensive but super-delicious

I like this place for nice surroundings, close to the sea and yoga-movement. Nice staff and nice customers - always.

Menu is wide, a bit expensive, but worth it: everything super-fresh and big dishes. My favorite is TEMPEH BURGER - just amazing masterpiece of food :)

Pros: Nice location, Fresh food and big dishes, Friendly staff

Delicious!

Beautiful, bright, colorful presentation and absolutely delicious food. I had the tempeh burger and the mango bean salad, which normally would have been too much food for me, but I was pretty hungry today. The crispy shell on the whole wheat bun was perfect, and the cashew cheese was wonderfully messy and mouthwatering. The cafe could not be more comfortable, right on the beach, open and breezy. Outstanding service. I will definitely be returning to eat here again.

Juices and green goddess shake is delicious!!

We didn't eat here as they had unfortunately run out of the green vegan curries however we had an all green juice which was well.. you can't make an all green juice taste amazing but it was packed with kale which was a great health kick!

The shakes were the best..caramel dates with fruits and packed with greens. Must try!

Pros: Healthy vegan food, Great juices, Detox centre so clean food!

Cons: Owners can come across as arrogant

great food

This place almost gets it right - good, healthy food and nice menu. Reasonable prices. Unfortunately the service is frustrating. 5 stars for food, though. Don't go here if you're in a rush (but why would you be in Ko Pangang?)
