Amazing Place!!!

They have recently changed to a full vegan menu (around 7/8/2018). I try to stop by once a month to see what’s new! Great job team!

Pros: Full Vegan Menu

Cons: Runs out of options

Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten!

First time in Detroit & found this gem on Happy Cow. The shaved Brussels are to die for! Also had a special stir fry. So so good!

Pros: Great menu selection. , Great prices.

favorite restaurant

Om is my favorite vegan/vegetarian restaurant in the metro Detroit area. Inventive specials, delicious stir fries. Their kale salad is unlike any I’ve had. Love it with sautéed tofu. The El Mexicano is filling and delicious comfort food. My husband loves the loaded vegan Mac. Highly recommend.

What's not to like?

I went there for lunch for the first time and totally loved it. It's got a funky entrance in the back in a parking lot. The restaurant is small and confined, but they make every inch count, with nice art work and comfortable table space. All the staff was super friendly and helpful. I started with a cup of the garlic and veg soup which was outrageously good. The tempeh burger was fantastic and came with an equally good salad with tahini dressing. I had the burger veganized simply by sub'ing daiya for the cheddar. Dessert was a vegan chocolate peanut butter cake. All was wonderful, very moderately priced, and filling. What wasn't to like? If I lived around the area, this would probably be a go-to spot. It's popular - while I was there, the place was near-constantly full, with some people waiting. In my opinion, it would be worth the wait.

Pros: great food, friendly staff, moderate prices

Cons: small size may entail a wait

Long Wait

Om provides a small comfortable atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. However, we waited an hour to receive our meal. The food was delicious so if you can wait you won't be disappointed.

will not return

tried this place for the first time a month or so ago. service was ok. food was bad. i got a burger and it was more of a pate and super mushy. the dressing for the salad was flavorless and it was tahini dressing! my husband got bbq seitan and it was a horrible consistency and it just did not taste good at all. he couldn't even finish his and he never wastes food. i ate mine because i was starving and i dont ever send a dish back. when asked how the meal was, my husband politely said it was just "ok" and the timid waitress then kept asking questions about why it wasn't good which made me uncomfortable. its a small place and i felt almost embarrassed about it because i dont like to complain about food-i just wont go again! no big deal! anyway, they ended up giving us a discount on our order which we said several times we didn't want-after all we ate our food we just weren't happy with it! overall the food wasn't good and i didn't like how they treated us because we weren't happy with the food. will not return :(

ieatmodestmouse,
We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience at OM Cafe - we do train our staff to make sure that every guest enjoys their experience, and that if there is a dish not to their liking, that we remake it for them. It was not intentional to make you feel persuaded to do so, we are simply passionate about the food that we serve.
We would love it if you came back and gave OM Cafe another go - we have tons of menu options and we are positive you will find a dish that you LOVE!
Our mushroom burger is a home made burger patty with brown rice and walnut, which is a softer texture. I recommend that you try our El Mexicano - it's a big plate of nachos with chips, pino beans, dairy or vegan cheese, red pepper, onion, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, jalapeno, greek olive, avocado, and salsa.

We hope you decide to dine in or carry out with us again!

amazing food and desserts

Had a great experience at OM cafe. Came in on a Friday night. The wait staff was really helpful and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were big, especially thee salads. Plenty if vegan options. I think they only had one fish dinner on the menu. All of the desserts were vegan and a few were gluten free as well. We ordered a coconut cream and chocolate cake that was out of this world. The space was definitely small and set up like a cafe but the food was so amazing.

Pros: lots of vegan options

Don't quite understand the description...

This is a seafood heavy restaurant with several vegetarian, and few vegan, options. They used to have great vegan dinner specials and desserts, years ago, but they have offered fewer and fewer vegan options over the years. The cafe has been up for sale for a while, call and make sure they are still open, and don't count on much to choose from if you are a vegan. This is not the vegan friendly place it used be a couple years ago.
If you are looking for Om Cafe, it is hard to miss: bright green building on the east side of Woodward, north of 9 mile, next to Toast.

Pros: macrobiotic friendly

Cons: lots of seafood

Hi there,
Thank you so much for taking the time to review OM Cafe. In regards to OM Ferndale being vegan friendly , we actually only have one fish dinner on our menu. We carry vegan cheeses, breads, desserts, and 90% of the menu is either vegan, or can be made vegan. If you haven't been to OM Ferndale recently, we would love for you to come by and see all that we have to offer. Saturday Brunches are great with home made vegan pancakes, tofu scramble, and much more.
The General Manager of OM Ferndale is vegan herself, so rest assured we can take good care of you and all our vegan friends!
Thanks again, we can't wait to see you.
