Saving Grace

I traveled to the Red Rooster Cafe after staying in Jerome as there wasn't a single place to eat breakfast in Jerome. I was so happy to find a place with a vegan option.
The menu seemed to have many vegetarian options and just one labeled vegan burrito. I ordered that with a side of potatoes. The burrito was large and really tasty. I could tell the potatoes were off immediately. I asked the waitress if they were cooked in butter and she said yes. I should have asked ahead of time but I'm disappointed she didn't ask after I ordered a vegan dish. Luckily I only ate a few and she replaced them with potatoes cooked in oil.
Overall, I would come back for the cute patio, and tasty burrito while in town but I'd love to see more vegan options!

Pros: Specified vegan option, Love music on patio

Cons: Limited options, Sides cooked in butter

Great, but... that service.

What a cool spot. The sweet street side murals and eclectic interior artwork/design (well, perhaps not all together eclectic, there was a strong rooster theme, but still cool, at least) make for a fun atmosphere to dine in. I ordered the vegan burrito (see menu picture for specifics) and it was a nice touch that it had sweet potato included. Taste was great, I may have preferred green chile sauce to mole to top it, personally, but that's just a matter of taste preferences, it was really very good. I wanted like anything to give this a 4 star review, but... the service...

I was seated quickly after walking in, there were open tables so it was only a minute. It was after being seated that the service curiosities began. I waited about 10 to 12 minutes after being seated before my server came over. It was bizarre because the table beside me had their server come over once every few minutes to check on them, happened 3 times before I even saw my server for the first time. Placed my order, waited what I'd call an average amount of time for the food to come out. Took the pictures, started eating, finished my meal and waited another 15 minutes after finishing before my server even came back, just to see if I was ready for the check (it really was that long, a strangely long time to just sit around waiting for your server to come ask if you're ready for your check) never saw her between receiving my meal and finishing it and waiting another 15 minutes looking around at the admittedly cool settings. Now, I'd like to think it was some strange anomaly, since it didn't seem like other tables were waiting quite like that, I may have had a server who was having a hard day or something, but it was really, strangely bad.

I have to report on what happened, right? Otherwise, I'm not providing anyone reading with an authentic summary of my experience. The service was strangely bad, worst I've seen since I started doing happy cow reviews. Without that, this would be a sure fire 4 star review.

Everything else was great.

Pros: superb atmosphere, Excellent taste, decent portion

Cons: But that service...

Delicious!

Walked in and was completely welcomed! Hostess and waitress both made great vegan and gluten-free recommendations. Affordable and delicious!
