I want to like this place so bad. - Edit
Every time I visit Old Cuss, I hope things will be better. I want to like this cute Western themed cafe. But food quality continuously goes downhill. The coffee is tasty, but it's not worth the price. I spent nearly $30 on a coffee and breakfast sandwich. And straight up, the food is not good. Most recently, the Dagwood sandwich biscuits were rock hard, and the tofu scam was nasty. I have had the breakfast burrito as well as a few other items they no longer serve and, its just not good. Food always seems to be undercooked, stale, or cold. There are several better options for vegan breakfast/coffee in SLC that also aren't overpriced.

Non Vegan converted! - Edit
I’m not vegan and yet I love everything at Old Cuss! Some of my go to’s are the pancakes/waffles that always have a fun delicious twist and the Dagwood burrito! Also they do special Fridays with burgers and chicken sandwiches throughout the year. I could go on about the staff and the vibe but simply put Old Cuss is a must visit spot if you’re in the Salt Lake area!

Yummy breakfast, rustic atmosphere, vintage clothes - Edit
Great sustainablility-driven place with mostly vegan food. I enjoyed a tasty and filling hash while reading in this rustic cafe, then browsed through the vintage clothing on display and ended up buying two shirts. Will be back for pancakes next time!

Awful food and mentality - Edit
Unfortunately Old Cuss is simply regressing. I paid $15 for a burrito, expecting a side to come with it. But it was just the burrito and it was awful. Full of onions, very mediocre.
Read moreOld Cuss started with much tastier and more reasonably priced food. It has since gotten more expensive and worse, not to mention they've gone from vegan to vegetarian. Not worth supporting and very disappointing.

The poorest avocado toast I’ve ever bought - Edit
The breakfast menu consisted of different Mexican food items and avo toast so I basically had no choice. The toast, that costed $10, looked like it needed more love. It was a thin soft slice of the basic weed bread you can find in any grocery store with a thin layer of avocado and some other unremarkable stuff on top. The worst part was that it had chopped parsley inside which I hate. I often joke that if I become a president the first thing in my list would be to make the listing of all things that come in the product mandatory. Anyways, the bottom line: I got the overpriced mediocre toast served by a girl whose facial expression was screaming: “please, I’m bored to death! Let me just get back to my phone” (yes, she was seating there staring at her phone screen like she was a volunteer there not an employee)
Read moreSuggestion: may be it’s worth trying to hire vegan folks. They are usually more enthusiastic to work in such places (from my experience). And review your menu.

Incredible mocha - Edit
One of the best mochas I have had. Not too sweet, not too tart. Close to 80, east on and off from interstate. Great chill atmosphere, friendly staff. Most creative avocado toast we think we have had. Fresh colourful. Fun vintage items and plants to ponder. I’d be a regular if i live in SLC.

Hands down, best cafe in SLC. Love the Cottagecore/cowboy/lumberjack vibes and vintage stuff at the gift shop.

one of my favorite places i’ve ever been to!! - Edit
My partner and i drove from Portland to Salt Lake City to see Turnstile back in October. I am so glad my partner loves coffee, since i don’t drink coffee, because they’re always looking for new places to try, and im so glad they found this spot!!!!! As soon as we entered this place, i could tell it was going to be amazing! The place feels very welcoming and there’s so much to look at inside. The people who worked there were such great people!! I had wonderful conversations with one of the baristas there (i’m so sorry I don’t remember the name but they reminded me of Dacre Montgomery??) and the owner.
Read moreI love BLTs so I had to get the smoked tofu blt!! it is my favorite blt i’ve ever had!!!! from the bread, to the parsnip bacon, and the tofu….. it was just so delicious!! and it comes with fries and brussel sprouts????
Im trying to find a reason to go back to SLC, but I would go back just for old cuss tbh. Im hoping i can go again in 2023!!

Brussels Sprouts are the star 💫 - Edit
I had the smoked tofu BLT. I was pleasantly surprised that it came with Brussels sprouts and fries. The insides of the sandwich were delicious, especially the smoky parsnip strips. The bread was dense and on the doughy side, oh well.
Read moreThe sprouts were silky on the inside, perfectly charred on the outside, and beautifully seasoned and smoked. I really liked the seasoning on the fries, but they were cold and not at all crispy. I put the fries and what was left of the sprouts in the oven when I got home and that elevated them both.
My mom had the biscuit and jam. The biscuit was pretty good (we heated it with the fries and sprouts), though a little odd to have an herb biscuit with jam. It came with generous portions of cinnamon-sugar margarine and a delicious jam that tasted like apple pie. I’d be interested to try the biscuits and gravy if I go back.
Pros: Great flavors!
Cons: Everything was cold, including the fries.

I enjoyed the coffee and muffin that I got but the biscuits and gravy were not very enjoyable. I’m not sure what was missing but I tried really hard to figure it out. Sadly I left most of it on my plate.

Nice place - Edit
Old cuss is a lovely place with a thrift store inside the bistro/café, however when we went there on a Sunday morning they were out of almost everything on their small menu. That was kind of disappointing. Though the food that they still had was very delicious and they gifted us leftover cookies and treats at the end.

Prepare to walk in and immediately feel at home. The atmosphere is so welcoming and warm, and Brent and Fyffe are just the best. Sweet, funny, and all around amazing humans. They have their own, big smoker where they smoke hearts of palm, jackfruit, etc, in house, and it's just 😍 Super unique place you shouldn't miss.

No Fuss at the Old Cuss - Edit
I ordered the Breakfast Dagwood, which is caramelized onions, tofu egg, tofu cheese sauce, and parsnip bacon on a biscuit, with a side of potatoes. It was a little awkward to eat because the biscuit was falling apart, but it was pretty good. The potatoes were well-seasoned. I was still a little hungry, so I chose an espresso cronut, which was delectable.
