Only one choice(3300yen) for vegans

It was only one pricey choice for vegans, but the meal looks luxury and everything was super delicious more than I expected..!!

It would’ve been good if they had more casual/cheaper vegan options 🙏🌱

Tofu set was tasty but overpriced

This restaurant serves one vegan option, a set menu consisting of a japanese tofu hot pot, a tofu teriyaki bowl, vegetable tempura and dessert.

The generous amount of tofu in this meal can be either a pro or a con depending on your preferences. As a tofu lover, I enjoyed it.

Everything was well prepared and the meal was a fun experience. However, at the steep price of 3300 JPY I would have expected the food to taste amazing but it was just good.

A lot of tofu

They have a vegan menu set, which is a little pricey. It consists of a lot of tofu, which, if you like tofu, is really nice.
You get a hot pot with boiled tofu and sauce, tempura vegetables and rice with tofu. They explained to us how to eat the hot pot and the staff is really friendly.
The food is really a lot, we couldn‘t finish our plates, and it is really much tofu.
The place itself is nice, you can sit on tatami mats or on chairs.

Pros: Nice staff, Good atmosphere

Cons: Too much tofu

2750 vegan and vegetarian set

They offer a vegan set and a vegetarian set, as well as some dishes not included in those sets (like green onion tempura, crushed chestnut, soba, and tofu croquettes) that seem to be vegetarian/vegan. However, the price of the vegetarian and vegan set options has increased from 1700 to 2750!!
The restaurant is quite spacious and the atmosphere is decent, but we had to wait for almost 30 minutes for our food to arrive.

Nice simple meal on the go

Stumbled upon this place by accident, they had only one Vegan choice, but it was good value and really tasty and to experience this while sat on an authentic tatami floor.

Loved it !

Pros: Tasty food

Cons: Limited choice

Not a budget option

Looked nice, but was outside my budget. Meals well above ¥1000 per head. The single "$" rating on Happy Cow was misleading imo.

Great menu

They offer a vegan menu and a vegetarian menu that I asked 3 times and it was vegan at the end because doesn't contain eggs or dairy. The 'vegetarian' one was really tasty and I definitely recommend it. They give you tofu in the soy latte to cook at the table!😄

Pros: Tasty, They can speak English

Cons: Not vegan restaurant

Beautiful restaurant and amazing food

A little hard to find, follow directions in other comments and just keep on asking around and you’ll find it! I had the vegan meal (had to ask for the vegetarian menu), came with rice and tofu, tempura and miso soup for 1500 yen tax.
Not super cheap but so worth it for the food and general ambiance in the restaurant.

I was so full as well so definitely worth the price!

Pros: Beautiful restaurant , Filling yummy meal

Cons: A little pricey (but worth it), Not many options for vegans (but they’re good)

I wish I could rate 5 stars

One of the best food I ate in Japan! It’s not that healthy because you have some fried nuggets, but it’s really tasty. There is one vegan and one vege options, I took the vege one.

Pros: Lot of variety in on single dish, Really tasty, Cute and cozy restaurant

Cons: A little bit hard to find , A little pricy (but worth it)

Pricy but classy

Really beautiful restaurant, like many others said, it's kinda hard to find. I think we also paid around 1500¥ for the vegan option, a bit more pricy than expected and what we usually spend on food. Very tasty, even though the tempura was a bit oily for me, but it's tempura so I guess that was expectable.
Overall nice staff, classy atmosphere, super tasty tofu, but for us it was a one time thing because of the price class

Pros: Super tasty Tofu, Very nice atmosphere

Cons: Pricy

One vegan meal, one veg meal

Staff here are super nice and they seem to be aware of their happy cow audience - very happy to accommodate vegan request, but the waiter did bring a specific menu out so if it’s not immediately forthcoming perhaps ask for it.

Restaurant might be hard to find, it’s set back from the street, at the back of an ‘alley’ that has a friend dumpling shop (associated to the restaurant) on one corner, and a souvenir/tax free shop on the other corner. Look for the signs for the ‘halal restaurant’

Vegan meal was teriyaki tofu on rice (so good but SO filling) with tempura veggies and a miso soup.

Vegan Lunch Set

Good food and ambiance. They have a veggie menu with a vegan lunch set. Comes with veggie tempura, the most delicious miso soup I’ve ever had, and a tofu dish on rice. Was about ¥1100 but very filling and in my opinion very worth the money.

Pros: Delicious vegan food, Ambiance

Cons: Hard to find (just keep asking), Only one vegan option

Hard to find but worth it!

Delicious food, vegetarian and vegan sets, just ask for the special menu when you arrive. Full English menu. Hard to find, down the back of a shop, there is a sign out the front of the shop to guide you. Seems like a nice traditional styled restaurant.

Pros: Vegan and vegetarian sets, Lovely staff, Beautiful decor

Cons: Only one vegetarian and vegan option

yummy!

When I visited in June 2018, I needed to ask for the separate vegetarian menu which had set meals for vegetarians and vegans (one of each). The food was very tasty (tofu and rice dish, tempura vegetables, miso soup) and came out fast! I would definitely visit again.

it’ll do

In mid-November, Arashiyama is overrun with tourists from all over Japan who come to see the beautiful autumn leaves. This also means it’s really hard to get a reservation at any of the great traditional veg restaurants in the area. This restaurant comes to the rescue. Given that they have a halal menu, you can get a veg set, but specify that you want veg. If you do not see the vegetarian set on this main menu, don’t to spare don’t despair. His item is on the seoerate menu. Now onto the food. Did I think it was great? May. It’s primarily fried food. There is some tofu in a nice sauce, but it’s not exceptional. the fried food is really really really crispy so if you have a sensitive mouth like me you might get some tiny cuts, however it really did come to the rescue today when I needed something to eat. You’ll most likely be able to find a space here, even in busy season. I waited about 15 minutes

Pros: convenient, free tea

Cons: fried af

Very nice vegan set menu!

The place was a little tricky to find but there is a sign that says Yoshiya Okunoniwa and then you go through the store and find it behind. Friendly staff with good english knowledge. The food was excellent but according to happy cow only one $ but I would say it was more expansive (1300 yen tax) but it was worth it! Very nice atmosphere and overall very happy with everything except that the tofu was a little bland.
