Ten out of ten!

Wow this place is amazing! Health food store with a rotating vegan buffet, very inexpensive, homemade, mostly organic, and many gf options. I had the great tofu stir fry with a side salad and enjoyed seeing so much community around this place. I look forward to another visit!

just anyways as always careful vegans who care ought read supplement bottles ingredients labels if you are adamant vegan in case minor ingredients issue like maybe capsules, so BYO reading glasses or magnifying glass or "cheaters" or spectacles to enable your human eyes to read tiny small print.

26December2023 happy holy-days rudolph steiner anthroposophy spoken inside there, with bathroom4u2wash hands with soap to prepare to be ready to dine inside the nice place. i had 3 organic persimmons for only $2.50 very reasonable/inexpensive. and a vegan soup bowl with protein ingredients plus at tables with chairs one cna add shaker ingredients: golden hippie dust the nutritional yeast, powdered garlic for flavor and health factors, and of course salt'n'pepper.

i was permitted/allowed to rummage thru their back parking lot recycle bins for glass containers sizes from 16 ounces to 32 ounces then i could haul those on LAKE BLVD bus to Kreation to trade the glass jars/bottles fora dollar credit each toward organic vegan purchase, such as "green3" healthy 5+vegetables drink. So, nice co-operation to feed vegan to the community.

so they deserve support, so pilgrimage there and spend a day in the area, hike their mountains seen close above uphill from their store/cafe'. VEGAN cafe'/market/natural-health-food-store.

Gem Cafe, Great Prices, Great Energy

Inside a health food store. A few tables among the shelves. Super nice owner serves up grub from behind counter. Posted menu shows handful of plant-based items. Both lasagna & bean soup over rice were hearty and flavorful. Huge portions. Three meals plus a cookie bag from the grocery were under $25. Very relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Outdoor seating is available.

Pros: Old fashioned prices (affordable), Delicious food, Generous portions

Wonderful independent vegan business

A unique variety of vegan products and very affordable prices; very helpful and kind staff, too! The best part is that it feels great to support a local, independently-owned vegan establishment

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Affordable prices , Locally-owned, independent vegan store

A rare affordable gem

Get the really outstanding yams with side salad. Do it!
Please? This is one of my favorite dishes in LA. So flavorful, nutritious, filling and cheap! Their turmeric dressing is special. The yams are loaded with greens, beans, the soup of the day.
Oh Happy Days is an old-school hippy joint. This June their rent went up by a lot and they had to raise prices but are still absurdly low compared to the rest of LA.
You might meet some interesting old characters too.

Greatest place in the world 🌎 to come and eat or just socialize. Peaceful environment. Kind of hippyish. Food is Great Prices are too. Has a fresh organic Mini market with a vast collection of herbs 🌿 It has a variety of supplements and an indoor outdoor facility for dining. John the owner is always friendly cordial and helpful and is a wizard of knowledge for healing and is a great Vegan Chef. If you're sick he will concoct herbs together with instructions on how to use them to get well. If you have a terminal illness he will give sound advice on how to reverse it through plantbased therapy. Most of the people that come here are knowledgeable and friendly. Great place!

Pros: Great vegan menu

Cons: Reasonable prices

A great vegan place in Altadena

Wonderful vegan, organic meals at unbelievable prices; you'll leave full and happy (and so will your wallet). A wide selection of supplements, and solid nutritional advice, to keep you in good health. Fresh organic produce, good bulk bins, and a great stock of herbs and spices will help you get all the ingredients you need for your favorite fall recipies, now that the weather is turning, whether you want to make oven roasted veggies or a hearty stew.

And where else can you be sure of finding gluten free, vegan mac n cheese, xylitol, agave syrup, more than 10 different flavors of kombucha, quantities of different healthy tea (caffeinated and herbal), Dr. Bronners in several different scents, ayurvedic toothpaste, etc etc? Does he have everything? No. This isn't Wal-Mart or Costco. But if there's a vegan grocery item that he doesn't have in stock, ask; he may be able to order it for you.

And it's a great place for getting healthier. Besides the super meals, and groceries, John carries an extensive stock of supplements, and herbs for both cooking and wellness. He also is an expert in herbal medicine. So whether you want to lower your blood pressure, get rid of allergies, a cold, or the flu, lose weight, or just improve your energy level; ask John, and he won't steer you wrong.

If you're looking for vegan organic meals at a great bargain, head up to Altadena, and enjoy air that is a good bit cleaner than down in LA's concrete canyons, and an atmosphere that will make you feel like you just found a time machine. It's part of an alternate universe; enjoy it while it's here.

And if you're not quite sure how to find it, even with Google maps, it's on Lake between Calaveras and Mendocino. If you're coming from the direction of Pasadena, it's past Elliot school (on the other side of Lake), and just past the post office.

Like a flashback into the 70s or earlier........

It is community style eating with 2 or 3 tables approximately 5 feet long and most who eat there know one another. The food is good home style cookin'. No formal menu but menu choices for the day are posted on a black board.

Pros: Very reasonable, Good healthy vegan food, Very casual

Cons: The ambiance leaves much to be desired d, Not many menu choices

Alway so happy to be at Oh Happy Days!

Whenever I am in the area I make a point to go this small restaurant and market. You order at the counter and sit down at one of a few tables in the market/restaurant. The menu varies from day to day. The specials are always delicious and you get plenty of tasty satisfying food for an extremely reasonable price. Everything I have had there I love. I just wish I lived in the area so I could eat there every day! I always get a special which I believe usually, if not always, comes with a salad, and often I get the soup. Last time the special was lasagna. The salad that came with it had the most delicious dressing. Just talking about it now is making my mouth water.
BTW they also have some groceries, organic produce, organic grains, supplements and more.
Anyway if you haven't already guessed I highly recommend Oh Happy Days. :-)

Pros: Delicious vegan food, Great value, Market too!

Healthy, vegan and inexpensive!

I love this place. The menu rotates daily, but you can always count on them having a soup and 2-3 main entrees, plus some sides. You can get a combo meal or just pick an item to have by itself.

Everything is vegan, mostly organic, and prepared in-house for a rotating daily menu. The food is extremely fresh; sometimes it lacks a little spice, but it's quite good other than that.

This is also a store, aside from the cafe, and they carry an assortment (somewhat limited) of vitamins, bulk goods and snack foods, etc.

Highly recommended.

Pros: All-vegan, Inexpensive, Friendly

Cons: Limited seating

Not So Happy Days!

A friend and I went there about two months ago. We walked in and looked around and thought, hmmmmm... where is the restaurant? The building was old and not taken care of very well, sadly (not happily). After asking someone, we were told that a tiny little space at the entrance to the store was where the food was (in food container inserts) and the very limited menu on a board. Reluctantly, but hungry, we decided since we drove all the way out there, we would try it. The food was on the underside of mediocre and the plate was visually unappealing. I wanted to write this review not to put down the place, but to make others aware that it is not a cafe or a restaurant and not to except that like we did.

Pros: Reasonable prices

Cons: Old & dirty, Food not very good, Location

I'll definitely go back!

Stopped by Oh Happy Days to check it out. Sign reads "organic" - so I was interested. Small natural food store and the nicest guy running the place (possibly the owner). The menu is organic (as much as possible), vegan and changes each day. They have a handful of items and the prices are fair. I had soup (with rice and veggies) and a salad. Good, wholesome, tasty lunch for $5.25 .

I am definitely going back. I had seen the place before but didn't stop because it looked small and questionable. My bad - you'd think I would learn by now. It was GREAT. Warm, inviting and comfortable.
If you're ever in the area and want good, healthy vegan food - stop on by.

Cheers.

Pros: yummy, quick, fairly priced
