Go get that popcorn tofu!

Stop what you're doing and go get a popcorn tofu sandwich custom made, it's so worth it! They have Chao cheese, vegan chipotle aioli, and they make their own candied jalapenos. I'm only happy I don't work close by anymore or I'd be spending my entire paycheck there.

Pros: Popcorn tofu!

plenty vegan options. relatively rainless/dry summertime redwoods forests opportunity for you to buy vegan supplies for trail hiking picnics. be aware bears could possibly be an issue north-coast CA. just do not store granola bars misc etc in your clothing pockets. have any food in separate bag/pack ready for you to fling the food-pack away from human bodies and climb trees in opposite direction. probably no problem, i never saw bears near Arcata CA. however there are nice nature trails behind HSU campus and public redwoods park. pacific coastal access beaches as well. plenty great nature places for you to haul your picnic items bought from North Coast Co-op.

Pros: plenty vegan options; coast/redwoods proximity

Cons: once stopped when trading original poetry sheets.., ..outside co-op my art cardboard box w/rosemary..., ..instead of trusting abundant flow, let me make $

Good grab and go food

We had the popcorn tofu wrap and loved it! Even had to grab one for the road! The vegan sushi was also pretty damn good…especially the avocado inari! The eating area inside the store is kind of lame, just fyi.

Scrumptious Sandwich

I ordered a custom sandwich with popcorn tofu and vegetables on sourdough bread, but they also offer wraps. Avocado and vegan cheese is also available. The employee was friendly, and made the sandwich correctly and quickly. The ingredients tasted fresh.

Pros: made-to-order sandwiches and wraps, indoor and outdoor seating

Not as good as I remember

In 2015, I had only glowing things to say. I went back in 2022 and was disappointed. They don’t seem to stock some of my favorite items that are usually at co-ops, there was only 1 vegan baked good in the bakery and it didn’t look enticing, and it is super expensive. I didn’t feel safe inside - despite a statewide indoor mask mandate, many people were not wearing masks, including employees.

Updated from previous review on 2022-02-21

Pros: Convenient for snacks on a road trip

Cons: Expensive , Don’t obey mask rules

All around great

Tons of vegan grocery items and lots of options in the deli. At the sandwich bar you can sub in avocado for protein and cheese, so you get double 🥑🥑🥑

So many fun vegan things to try

There’s a popcorn tofu wrap near the sushi that’s amazing! There’s also lots of fun vegan things to discover in the store. Great produce section as well.

Great Hot Food Bar!

I got two vegan tamales from the hot food bar that were really good. They had lots of great choices and it is a big natural foods market with a full selection of all our favorite things. I also got a couple yummy salads from e deli case and we got a large container of a delicious vegan minestrone. Such good choices and reasonable prices.

Pros: Good quality prepared foods, Good prices. , Great selection

Join the Co-Op

As a co-op member you are part of community of people who invest in a local business, and who can profit at year's end in some cases if the business does well. Every month members also get a one time discount off of their order. They have a very large selection of bulk dry goods for vegans and eco-conscious shoppers, as well as things like oils, vinegars and nut butters you can put in your own jar. It's also a good place to find sustainable or alternative hygiene products of various kinds. At Thanksgiving they were the only market in town carrying the roast-only box of Tofurky holiday roast.

Pros: Large bulk foods section, Membership benefits, Sustainable hygiene products

Cons: A little pricier than a corporate chain , Further away from HSU than Wildberries

HEAVEN

If I were stuck on an island with a billion dollars, I would buy this store and have it flown over, somehow...
The bulk section is HUGE!! They have so much bulk. The only thing I really wanted but could not find we're dates, but I bought some of the dried bananas and they were delicious. It's a rich vegans paradise, except I'm not rich and paradise shouldn't cost so much. They were missing some key things, like more types of sorbet and BBQ sauce. I know, weird combo...
The salad bar was basically non-existent when I went. They had vegan chocolate cake and vegan vanilla cupcakes at the bakery. Oh, and the figs were really cheap. $4+ is cheap for organic figs, at least where I'm from.
In bulk they had coffee, tea, spices, flour, tons of granola, nuts and seeds, dried fruit, candy, and more.

Pros: Huge selection, Good parking, Friendly people

Cons: Salad bar?

lunch only?

I dropped by on my way through town around 6pm on Saturday, looking for some dinner to take with me. No prepared food available, nothing in the bakery, empty looking salad bar. Food may be good, but down plan on getting food for dinner!
