Prefer their Mira Mesa location - Edit
I was very disappointed by this location. The Nishiki Ramen nearby in Mira Mesa is excellent - best vegan ramen in San Diego. That location serves soy karaage (chicken alternative), but this location does not. I also found this location's soup unpalatable for some unidentified reason. Also, it was packed & noisy, but that might of course be unrelated.

One of the best ramen I’ve tried - Edit
One of the best ramen I’ve tried. Ask for the vegan options with eggless noodles. Edamame has too much salt.

5 STARS! - Edit
This restaurant is not vegan nor vegetarian so HappyCow won't allow me to give 5/5, but I want to clearly state that this IS a 5 star review! :-)
Read moreI have never personally visited any branch of Nishiki Ramen but we used to order from Nishiki Ramen via GrubHub on a regular basis. I had their vegan ramen many times. It is very addicting. So tasty... love their vegan "chicken"... and the portion has always been more than generous. If they were cheaper we would be ordering from them all the time.
I am no longer living in San Diego and I am already missing my ramen!
Pros: best ramen of my life
Cons: pricey

They removed the gluten free option :( - Edit
Not a fully vegan place but one of the best places for options! It’s one of the few places my non vegan friends can take me to where I don’t feel like I’m getting an afterthought meal. Order any of the vegetarian ramens with the no egg noodles and it’s vegan!

Unfortunately they removed the gluten free ramen so now I can’t eat here with my friend anymore :

Bowl of Warmth - Edit
The restaurant offers outdoor seating (they have a heating system with air circulation as part of their setup) and seating is by reservation. I'm so happy I had the chance to eat here - their Vegetarian Delight is delicious! The soybean-based broth was light, flavorful, and had lots of depth. The toppings that came with it were tasty, too. Highly recommend - I'd definitely visit again to try the other vegan flavors (Curry Vegetarian, Spicy Vegetarian, and Clear Vegetarian).

My favorite Ramen - Edit
UPDATE!!!!! They now have 3 fully vegan ramen plates to choose from!! I LOVE this place Hehe
I loved Nishiki before going fully vegan and am so happy that they make the vegan/vegetarian options just as good. I only wish you didn’t have to pay extra for the non-egg noodles when you are already getting the vegetarian ramen option. PS my husband loves the French fries here lol

Amazing housemade noodles, good vegan options - Edit
I came here today with two non-vegetarian friends, and we all had a great lunch. This is the best ramen I've had in San Diego, especially bcause of the house-made noodles, which include a vegan version.
Read moreThere are five ramen options for vegetarians/vegans -- vegans should ask for no-egg noodles (+$1) to make all of the following vegan:
#14 - Spicy Vegetarian Ramen - a terrific spicy and creamy flavor, with excellent, chewy noodles and nicely prepared organic tofu. The broth is described as soy bean based - delicious! My only wish would be for more vegetables (there is corn, tomato and green onion). You can add bamboo shoots as an extra topping for $2, and seaweed for $1.
#13 - Curry Vegetarian Ramen - a lot of Japanese curry has beef tallow, but since this is described as a vegetarian dish, it should work for fans of Japanese curry.
#15 - Clear Vegetarian Ramen - with a seaweed (kelp) based broth, and "a hint" of ume plum, which should add a great umami quality to this ramen, though I haven't tried it yet.
#16 - Gluten-free Ramen - with a miso-based soup and rice noodles; and
#5 - Vegetarian Delight, which is essentially a non-spicy version of #14.
Other vegetarian options include edamame with sea salt or shriracha salt, a green salad with a vegan sesame dressing, soy meat karaage (a vegetarian take on a classic Japanese fried chicken dish), and an organic tofu salad with romaine and vegan sesame dressing.
We came on the early side to avoid a big crowd and parking issues, probably a good idea since this looks like a popular place. Even though I was pretty hungry, I had leftover ramen to take home for a snack later on, but my lunch companions pretty much licked their bowls clean.
Pros: Amazing house-made noodles, Many vegetarian & vegan options
Cons: Could use more vegetable variety in the ramen

The vegan ramen here is 100% the best ramen in San Diego. I'd give this place 5 stars if this app would allow me the option.

Vegan Ramen - Edit
Vegan ramen has been on the menu since day one at Nishiki. The Ramen Del Sol offered a light and frothy yam and almond broth with tender housemade noodles and a light array of veggies. At that time I would have easily called it my favorite ramen in Southern California. But the $15 price tag (which after tax and tip is nearly a $20 meal) kept me from making frequent visits.
Read moreNow that ethereal bowl is gone, replaced with the less lyrically named Vegetarian Delight ($9.80) with vegan noodles (+$1)--not commercial spinach noodles, but real toothsome wheat noodles. Topped with two slabs of organic tofu, corn, tomato, bamboo shoots, fried garlic, and spring onion in a very salty cream broth, this dish trades in subtlety for a kitchen sink of toppings, a salt assault, and a lower price tag. It's a clear market reaction, pushing for better sales, that I'm sure is working... although I miss that moment (in this bowl, in this life) when art was more important then income.
Pros: Clearly marked vegan menu
