Doesn't do it for me.. - Edit
I didn't rate my experience at Nippon Kitchen.
Read moreIt's an example of a Chinese run, Japanese restaurant, which right away, doesn't make sense.
I found the options to be a bit boring and lacking in imagination.
It pains me to say this but Yo! Sushi is better, by quite a margin.
Cons: boring menu, lack of vibe, old office environment

Great curry - Edit
Dynamite vegan katsu curry and they even have a separate veg menu.
Read moreGiving up the veggie katsu curry in wagamama when I turned vegan (contains milk i think) was heartbreaking.
This place saved the day. Love the decor too.
Pros: vegan katsu curry, beautiful setting

Turning Japanese - Edit
This was my first proper experience of Japanese food and now I absolutely love it. Normally I like to stick to vegan/veggie outlets but happened upon Nippon Kitchen by chance and I'm so pleased I did as they offer a very extensive two page vegan menu. We ordered the inari nigiri, inari, avocado and sweet potato sushi and veg tempura to start and all starters were delicious. The sushi particularly was amazing. We would have ordered the gyozas but sadly this was not vegan for some reason. Onto the mains and we ordered the veg curry with udon noodles and veg chilli buckwheat stir fry. The curry was again divine with both the veg and tofu cooked perfectly, whilst the veg chilli stir fry was also very tasty but could have perhaps had a bit more chilli heat for us. For dessert my wife got the yaki mochi (£3.75), which was a bit like a rice dumpling filled with red soy beans and in total we spent about £37 including drinks. The staff were very attentive and the whole dining experience was very enjoyable.

Japanese - Edit
It has a large vegan menu so first I went I decided to try the set menu to get an idea about the food they do. They kindly let me do it although I was few minutes late to take an advantage of this offer (parking is a nightmare, so leave the car at home ;-)).
Read moreI had starter of gyozas, good as expected, for main I got veg tempura in teriyaki sauce with rice, it looked lovely, it tasted nice but was a bit greasy, but I suppose it is to be expected of deep fried tempura, so my fault for choosing it. I had no room for dessert because portions are quite generous.
I will definitely come back to taste more dishes, it would be interesting to try some sushi...
Table next to mine ordered vegan bento box which seemed like a good value for money too (sorry for peeking :-D).
Pros: Big vegan menu , Central location , Good service
Cons: Serves meat

Extensive vegan menu - Edit
I love Japanese food and it used to be that they had a footnote on their main menu that any vegetarian dish could be made vegan, and now they have their own 2-page vegan menu full of options. I was there in a group of 8 and they didn't have enough menus for us all so we shared one between two. I love tofu and opted for the agadashi tofu to start, a tofu dish with a green tea base as main, and a side of sweet potato maki. I've had a tofu & noodle dish from here before and I think I'd go for that next time - the main I had was tasty but didn't have the oomph of flavour that I like, but was nice to try.
Read moreThey offer refills of green tea so I went with that, and didn't ask about dessert but they have offered a vegan dessert in the past - a rice pancake with a bean filling - so it's work asking if you want something sweet to end the meal.
We weren't waiting too long for food and it comes out as ready rather than as a set starter, main, then dessert. Service was fine. This was my 4th or 5th time there and I will definitely be back. Book in advance as it gets very, very busy, especially in the evenings.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Good value for money, Need to book in advance - shows it's good!
Cons: Need to book in advance - inconvenient
