Breakfast Sri Lankan way

Went here for breakfast on our 2nd day at Nilaveli. Picked two local breakfast dishes and fresh fruit juices. Needed some patience because as everywhere in Sri Lanka so far, food always takes long, but it was worth it 100%. Besides the Sri Lankan pancakes with coconut filling and fruits (we already knew that)we chose Masala Dosa. This is another type of pancake but savory and larger which comes with a mashed potato filling and a cilantro-cream dip as well as some dhal.

Pros: Nice owner, Many choices , Understood veganism

Cons: Long waiting but it was actually ok

Possibly the best vegan rice and curry in Sri Lanka

At the end of my 6 weeks travelling I can say that the rice and curry at Nina’s is possibly the best I have eaten. In my 4 days in Uppuveli I tried their breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was a delicious dosa, while for lunch and dinner I went for the buffet. This varies each day, but I was pleased to see the green brinjal (eggplant) curry both times. This dish is exquisite, one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my travels. The beetroot curry is also amazing, and not easy to find in Sri Lanka. The humble restaurant is run by a lovely family. During my visits I was the only customer, although it was low season. 5 stars.

Pros: authentic home cooking, Bold flavours, Cheap fir the area

This place is great for vegans!

I would give them 5 stars but that’s not allowed as they do serve non vegan option. We’ve been here for dinner and for breakfast and both times they have been great!
They speak great English and also taught us a bit of Tamil!
For dinner we got veggie curry and devilled vegetables which were both great.
For breakfast they made us vegan (and gluten free!!) pancakes with fruit!
Will definitely return again while here

Pros: Tasty vegan options , Understand what vegan is, Gluten free options too

Food variety and service depends on the time of day

The vegetable rice and curry is great (a bit pricy at 400 LKR). However, the number of curries you’re served depends on what hour of the day you’re there. Lunchtime you will get 4 curries, dinner time (after sundown) you can get up to 6 curries along with popcorn and papadum. The food is also cold during lunchtime, so I highly advise only going there in the evenings for fresh food, warm service, and papadum.

Pros: Vegan options, Conveniently two locations

Cons: Food quality and quantity lower at lunchtime

Lots of vegan options, best food

Ate here like 20 times, love the food. vegan chocolate and banana pancakes are the best for breakfast with lovely juices and iced cocnut milk coffee. Mmmmm. We also asked for a jackfruit curry (not on the menu) they were happy to make for us the next day. So lovely highly recommend

Pros: Happy to make things vegan.

Simple and fresh

Enjoyed eating here a few times during our stay in Trincomalee. Good vegan options , we tried rice and curry and kottu. Both were delicious and good size. Very good price too, 300 for rice and curry.

Pros: Good vegan options , Cheap prices

Best Rice & Curry in town!

New little restaurant that serves delicious Sri-Lankan food including rice & curry with different currys. We visited this cute place four times for dinner and always got different kind of vegan currys. We asked for the unripe jackfruit curry (which is a famous dish in Sri Lanka) and the day after got the most delicious jackfruit curry EVER! On our last dinner the owner cooked a variety of sri-lankan vegetable currys, e.g. lady's fingers curry, bitter gurd curry, red beetroot curry etc...

For breakfast you can have sri-lankan style breakfast for example string hoppers with coconut sambal and dhaal or masala dosa and many more.

We can highly recommend this place!

Pros: fresh & homemade & big portions, cheap & delicious, lovely owners
