Veg place in PJ New Town - Edit
I had the roasted duck with came with bread. It was nice with the sauce. And the ice tea and sour plum drink was also nice. There’s a lot to options to choose from all almost all vegan. Good location in PJ New Town. A bit pricey for what you’re getting though. But all in all, if you’re around that area, it’s worth a visit!

Tasty, affordable vegan-friendly food - Edit
I went to Neu Vegetarian Restaurant twice on a recent trip home. The restaurant has a pretty extensive menu of mostly Chinese vegetarian dishes. Most Chinese dishes tend to be vegan by default but do check with the server to make sure nothing is prepared with eggs or dairy. Vegetarianism is very common in Malaysia and most restaurants are used to requests for egg- and dairy-free meals. Most servers will even check if you're okay with garlic and onions as some Taoist vegetarians don't consume either.
Read moreOkay, the food. The dishes are typical of most Malaysian Chinese vegetarian restaurants but are prepared very nicely here. Flavourful but not overly salty. The portions are generous and the prices very reasonable.
I was lucky to dine family style each time and wasn't faced with tough decisions over what to order. Over the course of two meals we had the asam fish (soy fish in a tangy tamarind sauce), claypot tofu, sliced tofu with mushrooms, kangkung belacan (water spinach with vegetarian shrimp paste), sauteed olive green beans, dry chillies and chicken (kung pao style), curry fish in claypot, stir fried lotus root, sweet and sour crispy mushrooms and the yam basket. We also had both versions of the dessert sago (honeydew and mango). Everything was delicious!
If I had to pick any favourites, they would be the green beans, sweet and sour mushrooms and dry chillies with chicken. My omnivore dining companions enjoyed everything too, and all the plates were cleaned.
I'll definitely come back on future trips. The restaurant is in a part of town that's not very convenient as the closest LRT station (Taman Jaya) is about a 15-20 minute walk away and parking can be very tough. Neu is worth checking out, though, and I highly recommend it for a tasty, affordable meal in a comfortable, friendly environment.
Pros: extensive menu, tasty food, not too oily or salty, nice staff
Cons: tough to find parking at peak hours

Good Chinese vegetarian food, vegan options - Edit
I had the occasion to visit this restaurant with a group of my colleagues who normally do not eat vegetarian, as it was the first day of the month according to the lunar calendar and some of them wanted to eat vegetarian for religious reasons.
Read moreThe restaurant is nice and located centrally in PJ downtown, the food was good and the service was ok.
We had a total of 6 "medium size" dishes that were perfect for 8 people. Best were the curry lamb, the vegetarian assam fish and the claypot eggplant. It was not the best tasting Chinese vegetarian food in Petaling Jaya, but it was decent and nobody complained.
The only challenge I saw was that the waitress insisted that all the dishes were vegan, but as her English was not very easy to understand and she did not speak Mandarin either, this was not easy to ascertain. Also the discussions that my colleagues tried to have with her in Cantonese and Malay did not fill me with total confidence.
I would have preferred a menu that clearly mentions which dishes are vegan or a competent waiter that can converse well in either English or Mandarin.
Nevertheless, in downtown PJ this is definitely one of the better vegetarian Chinese places.
Dishes are around 12 RM for small helpings, 18 RM for medium size and 25 RM for big sizes. The total price of the meal including drinks came to 20 RM (5 EUR) per person, which is not exactly cheap, but definitely a fair price for the food offered.

Best Chinese vegetarian food in KL - Edit
I go here time and again and am still hungry for more... Friendly staff and basic decor but the food more than makes up for it. Perfect example of truly Malaysian Chinese food for all. Their Assam Fish ('vegetarian' fish made from beancurd) is a must!! Great fresh fruit juices. Average cost of a meal is approximately 20 ringgit (USD 6)per person.
