Dining as a Vegan - Edit
2023: When my sister and I tried Neko Neko for the first time, they didn’t have a non spicy ramen option so we had their tan tan ramen. My sister isn’t one to enjoy spicy/chilli so it was really spicy for her. My sister’s colleagues and friends all enjoyed the tan tan ramen when they visit so I suppose if you have a high spice tolerance then get the tan tan or spicy tofu ramen. The vegan gyoza were well presented and tasted decent.
Read moreIf I was to return here, I would love to try their lotus root chips, vegan beans & potato croquettes curry, Neko Neko ramen/Ko-neko ramen, vegan miso soup, vegan nyachos and cauliflower kara-age.

2024: This time we managed to find parking on the same street. I’ve finally got to eat at Neko Neko again and I can say that the vegan beans & potato croquettes curry and cauliflower kara-age was delicious! One of the best Japanese curries I’ve tried in Australia. The age-dashi tofu was good too!

Not that impressed - Edit
I love the decor cat theme and the the look of the food but tbh I found it a bit bland every time. It’s ok but there is definitely better ramen and curry in Newtown.

Not all vegan anymore! :( - Edit
Almost all of the menu is vegan, but they added a couple salmon dishes back to the menu. Highest for non veg places is 4 stars and this place is a 3/4 for me — The food is tasty, but pricy. Good service and nice atmosphere

Minimalist approach, interesting combinations - Edit
The sushi surprised us, similar to a ceviche, and I enjoyed the ramen, but I'll probably try a different option next time because I "played safe" so that my husband to try it as well. A bit pricy, though.

Is that place vegan now? I wish the Neko Neko in Melbourne would do that. It makes a big deal of its vegan ramen but it still serves slaughtered fish and stolen eggs.

Yes! They crossed out the animal products from the menu! You can't get them anymore here.

That’s great news: I hope the Melbourne ones follows suit quickly.

They added 2 salmon dishes back to the menu after just a couple weeks of being all vegan. I’ve submitted a change of status to happy cow

That’s so disappointing 😞

It is! I wonder what justified that decision... Maybe people stopped coming as frequently? Because their mark-up certainly remains higher with a full veg menu, especially with their prices.

The vegan ramens were delicious! The tofu pocket filled with rice was so unique and tasty, and there’s many vegan options that I’m keen to try next time.

Cozy Japanese restaurant with incredible vegan ramen. Other than ramen, There’s also a range of different vegan menu items to choose from. Best to book in advance if not arriving early, especially for groups.

Delicious vegan Japanese food!!! - Edit
Really happy to stumble across Neko Neko; the vegan menu items were extensive and most importantly, DELICIOUS! We got the Potato Croquette Curry, and the Superfood Agedashi Tofu & Eggplant Set which were both delicious and extremely filling. The presentation of the dishes were also spectacular and gorgeously done, so appetising! We paid about $50 for two people (no drinks).

Colorful and flavorful ramen - Edit
This restaurant offers either pescetarian or vegan dishes. All ramen are vegan and there are different options for broth and toppings.
Read moreWe enjoyed the diversity and the colorfulness of the ramen dishes.
The noodles seemed house-made, they were slightly chewy and flat.
The restaurant is small, but nevertheless seems to fit a lot of people.
Pros: taste good, various flavors

Best vegan ramen ever! - Edit
We loved our visit at neko neko! We’ve tried many different ramen, even before turning vegan. And hands down - this is the best ramen I’ve ever had - and it’s vegan! I had the neko neko ramen with gluten-free noodles and forgot halfway through my meal that I ordered gluten-free. You couldn’t even tell. I loved the little vegan beef bits and the flavor of the stock was perfect. Will try and go there again asap! Oh I also highly recommend the vegan bean croquettes and vegan dumplings which we had for starters!

Amazing Japanese eats - Edit
Years ago I ate their restaurant on a visit in Melbourne (Fitzroy) and I’m so glad they’re now also in Sydney. Beautiful Japanese dishes loaded with flavour, and reasonably priced. Nice ambience inside. Will absolutely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Impressed! - Edit
We had the vegan ramen, agadeshi tofu and eggplant plate and vegan dumplings and everything was great! The attention to detail really adds that extra edge. The decor is very sleek and staff were very attentive and helpful. Price point is on the higher side but the quality is there to make it worth the cost. Will be back!
