Vegan options in a gorgeous setting - Edit
This courtyard café is a beautiful retreat in which you can spend an hour or two. It is not vegan or vegetarian (fish, eggs, and goat cheese feature) but the majority of the menu is vegan. Staff know the menu back to front and will advise what can be altered to be vegan if none of the numerous dishes that are clearly marked vegan catch your attention. Great sandwiches. Awesome tea menu. Scrambled tofu for breakfast is tops. And once again, the setting can’t be beaten.

Hummingbirds & Coffee - Edit
It seems to me the menu at Nectar is all vegan. I have been numerous times for breakfast and lunch. Maybe it is only that I pay attention to the vegan items🤷🏼♀️. Order a double espresso and the chilaquiles for breakfast. It’s very filling, I was able to get through half. Don’t worry it wasn’t wasted, my husband ate the rest after his big bowl of granola and fruit with almond milk.

Most Excellent Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurant . - Edit
I live in San Miguel de Allende and this is my most favorite cafe for breakfast (try the scrambled tofu) lunch (eggplant sandwiches or for a lighter meal the quinoa salad) and for dinner, every item on the menu is excellent.

Five star food and service - Edit
Nectar is a fantastic find in beautiful San Miguel Allende. The recipes are original, all ingredients fresh and best quality, the taste, presentation, and service all excellent. I wish they had one in San Diego where I live!
Read moreI’m not sure why this didn’t come up in my local search on Happy Cow. They do not serve any meat, the menu is 99% vegan/ vegetarian, but apparently they do offer seafood sometimes. Not sure why when everything else is so great, perhaps the owner still likes that?
Beautiful ambiance. This is a nice restaurant not a diner. Did I mention the prices are really reasonable for this quality cuisine?
Treat yourself to something wonderful and check out Nectar.
Pros: Creative original recipes, Fresh ingredients, Great service
Cons: Why serve seafood at all?, Can’t rate it 5 stars because not fully vegetarian

visit at Nectar in San Miguel de Allende - Edit
Everything was exceptional, we have a super picky grandma and a finky grandson who both ate every last bite in delight. We loved the ambiance and the lovely store where you can buy all the plates and accessories they use to serve you and much more. The tea selection is very original and the waiters are funny and kind. We would give them 5 stars but they still offer 3 or 4 fish options. Do not miss this place😉

Vegetarian's Delight - Edit
This is by far my favorite restaurant in San Miguel! I wanted to give it 5 stars, but Happy Cow wouldn't allow it. We have been to this wonderful city many times and marveled at how easy it is for a vegetarian to find delicious food here. On this trip, however, I was delighted to find this little gem of a place on our first morning. I had the most delicious tofu scramble I've ever had accompanied by lovely little breakfast potatoes (served with a yummy lemony sauce) and toast. They have an extensive tea menu and infuse teas in many of their dishes and sauces. The French press coffee was excellent. The second time we came here was for lunch, and I had the black bean burger. It was also delicious. My husband enjoys salmon and other fish and has been very happy with the dishes he has tried. The service here is very friendly and usually excellent, except one time when they were a little short-handed. The main guy had gone to market, apparently. As soon as he returned, everything returned to normal. The setting here is delightful, with just a few tables scattered around a lovely patio filled with hummingbird feeders. It is so fun to eat, watch the hummingbirds, and enjoy the lovely sounds of birds. It is probably best to try this restaurant on a weekday when it won't be as busy and will be quite peaceful. I will return again and again so that I can try more items on their extensive and very vegan-friend,y menu. Again, I love this place!

What a gem! - Edit
We liked our lunch here on our first day so much that we came back for breakfast the next morning during our short 24-hour stay in SMA. We got different things both times and enjoyed them all. I don't remember seeing much meat on the menu, so I'd say this is one of those places that are more "carnivore-friendly" than "vegetarian-friendly". Aside from the food—which was straightforward yet healthy and delicious—I also truly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, the natural décor, and the teas of course. Service was warm and excellent. Staff is well-trained, professional-looking, and most importantly for us the Spanish-challenged, speaks English. As a bonus, you may even find hummingbirds feeding and hovering next to you in the very same courtyard. Now, I'm a bit of a nitpicker, but still I really couldn't find any fault during my two visits. This place is a must visit!

Best vegan breakfast spot in S.M.A. - Edit
San Miguel was a little challenging for vegans, so this place was an oasis. We ended up having breakfast there 4 days in a row -- they will serve some things off their lunch menu if you ask, so check that out as well. We particularly liked the "meatball" sandwich, which is lentil-based. Many of the dishes incorporate flavored teas as an ingredient.
Read moreThere seems to be a little confusion with staff between gluten-free and vegan, so do ask if something seems like it should be vegan but isn't labeled so. It's all garden seating, so if you're are there during the rainy season you may have to get stuff to go.
Staff spoke English well enough to make everything easy.
Pros: Great garden seating, Just a few blocks from the town center, Inventive dishes
Cons: Some gluten/vegan options are lost in translation, Not open for dinner, Little seating in bad weather

Sophisticated and Delicious - Edit
The garden patio setting complete with a hummingbird joining us while we were eating made the entire experience very enjoyable. My daughter and I had the vegan lasagna and it was delicious. It had both depth of taste and texture and reminded me of a roasted vegetable ratatouille with a light but "creamy" sauce. We would definitely eat there again on another trip.

A LIttle Bit of Heaven - Edit
This restaurant serves some of the most delicious vegan food I have ever tasted and I am 71 years old! I did a complete write up on the restaurant so please read that as I don't really want to repeat everything! The food is lovingly prepared, very sophisticated - they use a lot of tea infusions in their sauces. The service is attentive and friendly. The dishes and serving pieces absolutely beautiful. And all of this is a courtyard garden setting.

Delicious food in a tranquil oasis - Edit
I love this place and went twice on my recent trip to San Miguel de Allende. Set in a peaceful courtyard with hummingbirds hovering overhead, this cafe is a real gem and you should definitely visit. Although not 100% vegan, there are many vegan dishes marked on the menu and everything we ordered was delicious and had obviously had a lot of thought and passion put into it.
