Indian Street Food

Tasty authentic Indian food, inside a building next to a medical center, pharmacy and a supermarket.
We came right when they opened so it took several minutes to get our order while they got ready.
The food was delicious.

Pros: Authentic Indian street food, Cheap prices! Unlike anywhere else in Seychelles, Very friendly

Cons: The food seemed to be not today fresh

Best option on the island

I love how hard this place is trying to bring vegan/ vegetarian food to the area. I do think some things get lost in translation, but there are some vegan options if you ask specific questions. We were the only people there on a Thursday evening.

Pros: Beautiful space , Helpful server

Cons: Vegan options not obviously marked on the menu

Be very careful to really explain what veganism is

In a restaurant that labels itself vegan (and lacto-vegetarian)

Pros: It’s meant to be a vegan restaurant , It’s an improvement on the rest of the island

Cons: Be prepared to eat butter

Very tasty

Despite the fact that the restaurant on the 4th floor was closed (to be reopened around September 2022), we found them at the ground floor in front of the supermarket. It is lacto végétarien, nothing contains egg, not even the desserts.
It’s true that what we found was mostly Indian dishes, but they also offer a veggie burger and pizza.
We tasted a veggie frank which was like a sandwich and a paneer pakora and took to go samosas and a veggie burger to have for dinner.

Pros: Not exensive, Tasty

Cons: Probably not a lot of vegan options

Not accommodating to vegans

Being arguably the only vegetarian restaurant in the Seychelles with a separate vegan menu, I expected more from this place. The reality is that many dishes are WRONGLY LABELLED (despite some dishes being labeled vegan, it turned out they might still contain dairy).

They were also not capable (or not willing to?) veganize anything we asked... as if everything was already pre-cooked 🤔 This left us with very limited options. Especially since we’re looking forward to some nice curries and other veg dishes, not just pain rice. It’s sad because they had lots of interesting dishes in the menu we wanted to order, but they either turned out to be either “wrongly labeled” or “impossible to leave dairy out”.

The dishes we ordered were far from great and they also downgraded the spiciness of the food without asking us. That’s something I do not appreciate at all as I hate bland food.

The entire experience was rather poor and sadly cannot recommend this place for vegans.

The problem here, and with a large proportion of Indian cuisine and culture, is that clarified butter (dairy ghee) is not considered “dairy”. You can straight up ask them if there is dairy (I.e. milk, butter, yogurt) in a dish and they will say no. Then you will find there is ghee. Yesterday at Nayopi is this what happened to us. Also, a straight question “is this sauce yogurt?” Was asked and the answer was “no sir, this is a mint sauce”. Then with a more direct question “is there yogurt IN this sauce” was answered “oh yes sir.” What’s upsetting is this is meant to be the only (?) vegan restaurant on the island and these simple concepts are not understood. I could live with the bizarre location and decor, if they could understand that just labelling food vegan does not make it vegan…
