Simple food is fitting - Edit
So it really is simple food. It doesn't taste amazing, the have no idea what vegan is.
Read moreI asked them to show me the items without egg, and ended up having a mushroom patty which clearly had egg in it.
So just take care of that.
But there are not many options Herr you can go for it.
The buffet was rice with 3 toppings for 6RM, so it's really cheap

Simple but good - Edit
I had a meal here for lunch and it was nice. Affordable. I didn't like the flavour very much and the way they used fake meat. However, for a vegan like me, I was grateful that this shop exists as it was difficult to get vegan food in Malaysia.

An oasis in Sandakan! - Edit
Be very grateful this place exists in Sandakan because you will struggle otherwise!
Read moreServing vegetarian and vegan buffet-style Chinese food which varies slightly day-by-day. It's cheap, tasty and the friendly guy understands vegan so can help you out with item descriptions and suggestions.
Please be aware of opening hours though as it closes at 1pm so get takeaway for dinner while there. You're going to need it in Sandakan as there's very few other options.
The restaurant is on the first floor of the building block, and there are some stairs leading from Street level just below and to the right when facing the building.
Pros: Vegan options!, Tasty and great value. , Friendly staff.
Cons: Closes early

Delicious economy rice set, low prices, clean and friendly - Edit
They have an a la carte menu and an economy rice set where you can choose 3 dishes from the buffet for 5.50 RM. Seating is comfortable and spacious, everything is clean and they also sell some snacks and condiments. Quick and friendly service. Convenient location near the waterfront and the central market. Note that the menu is written in Chinese.

Friendly vegetarian buffet - Edit
We came here for breakfast. We had a plate of noodles (no rice available when we visited) and three dishes from a choice of about six things in a buffet. Eggs are used so you need to ask about vegan options.
Read moreEverything was tasty even if the choice of options was quite limited. There were a couple of fake meat options, a tofu curry and some vegetables.
We also had a bowl of soup, which was probably better suited to local palates.
Service was very friendly, and the bill came to 13rm.

The only Vegetarian Resturant in Downtown Sandakan - Edit
Bit difficult to find as the address takes you down one road wrong but the place is the next parallel road along.
Read moreIts a lunchtime buffet spot but the food was excellent and very cheap. Not open for dinner
This was the only full vegetarian restaurant we found in the heart of Sandakan.

Central, inexpensive, and pretty tasty - Edit
Nature Vegetarian is your basic Chinese ovo-vegetarian joint serving economy rice dishes from morning till 1pm. On our visit, there were about 12 dishes on offer, 10 of which were vegan. We sampled seven of them, of which all were tasty, six were warm, and none were spicy. Some were a bit oily, but not too bad. Total 11 Ringgit for two plates with soup.
Read moreThe building is about two blocks from the waterfront (depending on what you count as a block). The restaurant is on the first floor (or second floor if you speak American), so look for the rather grim stairwells near both ends of the block. You can see the sign above the restaurant from the street, but only if you aren't right under it.

very cheap & central - Edit
Nature's vegetarian might be a bit difficult to find, it is very centraly located, and just 2 minutes walk from the new marked hall. In fact it's the only vegetarian reataurant lokated in the compact city centre of Sandakan. It is located on the first floor. The stairs in this old block look a bit shabby and dirty', but don't let this put you off. The food in this typical Malyasian simple restaurant is good and very cheap. RM 4 or 5 wich is around 1 Euro for a plate full of rice and a choise of 3 vegetable/tofu or mock meat dishes. A bowl of simple soup and free tea is included. Only open at lunch time. Turn over is good, a lot of custumors. So though it may look not so clean, especially for westerners, food is fresh. Have eaten here many times.

Cons: bit difficult to find , dirty stairs
