Go-to spot for vegan options - Edit
This is my go-to spot for vegan food in Anchorage. The staff know what vegan means and their vegan thali (though expensive) is to die for! There isn’t a separate vegan menu, but you can find vegan options by identifying which menu items in the vegetarian section have an asterisk (indicating dairy free). I’m partial to the aloo govi and Shangri-la punch, but anything you get will be bursting with flavor!

Got the chana masala and lemme tell you…it had it all. Rich flavor, perfect amount of spice, great portion. Left filling full but not too full. Heart happy and tummy happy. Can’t recommend enough. Tons of vegan options

Great flavors, lots of vegan options - Edit
The flavors were lovely. We were happy with everything we ordered. Lots of vegan options clearly marked on the menu and specials board. I would return often if we were local. Service was great.

Great experience - Edit
Here for a week for work and there aren’t a ton of options, but this place hit the spot on a cold night. The flavors were different, but tasted like food I eat in India. I can see it’s not for everyone. I enjoyed it!

What a surprise - Edit
I live in North County San Diego and complain that there are no good Indian restaurants there. My wife and I occasionally drive all the way to Artesia (little India) for good food and we love the different flavors. I thought that Indian food in Anchorage would be overly sweet Americanized Indian food, so I didn't have high hopes. Boy, was I wrong. This place is a gem. All the dishes are popping with flavor and the variety of tastes is great. I'd go back any time.

Easy vegan ordering - Edit
Look for the section on the menu that lists the Thalies. The Vegan Thali has three listed vegan entrée choices along with some additional vegan nom noms included. You don't have to order the Thali to eat vegan, but it lists the vegan entrées without having to ask the server. The vegetable momo is not vegan unfortunately. The vegetable pakoras are vegan and are amazing. Another nice thing is that you can tell the server how hot you want your meal from mild to hot. The daal soup is very good too.

Yum - Edit
We found Namaste Shangri-la on Groupon, and what a find! We arrived apprehensive, and upon reviewing the menu and asking questions of the host, we very fortunately decided to stay. We ordered so much food that was all delicious, that wehad lots leftover. The host answered lots of questions about vegan options, and was expert in informing us about the menu. There is a vegetarian section of the menu that can be requested to be made vegan. There is also, marked on the menu, the Vegan Thali, which we ordered. It was a huge assortment of dal, white jasmine rice, and a choice of several vegetable dishes. We chose the okra special as well as veganized versions of vegetable dinners. We also ordered naan without butter (we were assured it was vegan). We left very full, satisfied, and with many leftovers for the next day. I can't wait to return!
