Traditional soft tofu pudding in a beautiful location

You’ll find Muzi Doufang in a quiet alley off Dagong street near the beautiful Zhushan Zinan temple - look for a big blue sign with “ 59號 ” above the shops opposite the public restrooms, and follow the path a short distance whilst looking out to your left.

They offer soft tofu pudding, shaved ice, and soymilk drinks, which can be enjoyed either indoors or in their shaded outdoor seating area, and of course you can take away also (so you’re not left out when non-vegan friends get ice cream from one of the many shops around the temple).

The pudding is sweet & refreshing, perfect for a hot day (which as a Geordie is every day in Taiwan 🥵). I had tofu in the brown sugar syrup with shaved ice, pineapple agar jelly, and Taro balls, but there are lots or options for the toppings, and and the lady running the shop allowed me to try a few before deciding my order.

I imagine this is an ‘accidentally vegan’ dessert shop as it doesn’t seem to publish anything claiming to be vegan, but the lady behind the counter did confirm that all of the ingredients are free from animal products.

I couldn’t finish it all on my own because the portion size is quite big and it’s very sweet, but don’t let that put you off because the price is so good. It was £1.50 in current conversion rates (£1=$40) and I was able to share it with my sister.

Big thumbs up from me 🙂

Pros: Good portions & prices, Convenient location with shaded seating
