Great food, attentive staff

We had Falafel burgers as a menu plus Papaya Shakes and Cafe Lattes.
Staff explained a lot in excellent English.
Food was prepared with a lot of love and commitment.

Pros: All vegan, attentive staff , Made with love

Pleasantly surprised

What I particularly liked about this hidden gem was that each dish was explained and shared with great care. Giving value to the food and respect to the chef.

Delicious and fresh

The food here is really well made: the falafel burger was one of the best I've had, the sushi full of flavor, and the sweet potato creme brulee muy rico.

The menu has a nice variety of items but on the day we went, half of them weren't available which was a little disappointing. Nonetheless, a very nice dining experience.

Very cute little café

I really much like to come here because the food is made with so much love and tastes really delicious. Also the atmosphere of the Restaurant is really nice. They have a little house cat that likes to walk around. The food is very colorful and good. Especially I like that they have vegan cakes which is rather difficult to find in Kaohsiung.

Pros: Full vegan restaurant, Good food, Vegan desserts / cakes

Cons: More expensive compared to other places

Great burgers and drinks

Loved the burgers and the cold brew tea, and iced drop coffee. Pumpkin soup could've used some salt and pepper. The cinnemon rolls looked sad so we didn't try them. Mushroom burger was a highlight!

Organic vegetarian restaurant near ferry to Cijin

We had lunch here on our way to Cijin, and very glad we did. Freshly prepared dishes, with some ingredients from their own farm. Relaxed feel. Staff speak English. Cash only

Fake cinnamon roll: sad!

I came here on a friend’s recommendation, but perhaps I should’ve asked what she ordered. The hot cocoa (NT$140) was good but quite pricey for it’s small portion size, and the cinnamon roll (NT$85) couldn’t attempt to hold a candle to Cinnaholic. I will credit Mottainai for trying out a lemon glaze so that the cinnamon roll didn’t taste overly sweet, but this is a pastry that shouldn’t be steamed like a Chinese bun! I can’t recommend going for the food based on my experience, but the ambience is nice.

Pros: 100% vegan, cute ambience

Cons: expensive, mediocre food, small portions

Vegan cafe with a unique vibe

Read more in this vegan Kaohsiung guide: https://itravelforveganfood.com/vegan-kaohsiung-guide/

This vegan cafe near Sizhiwan Station is one of my favorites in Kaohsiung. Located on the ground floor of an old Chinese building, Mottainai Cafe kept some parts of the original elements, like the gate and the window frames, and build the interior with the original building in mind. The result is a beautiful modern cafe with a unique local vibe that’s hard to find elsewhere.

Homemade nut milk, fairtrade cocoa powder and desserts that don’t use refined sugar, the menu shows care and thoughts put into by the owners. You can find burgers, bowls, desserts and drinks in the menu. After you’ve decided what to order, you pay at the counter first before the meal.

The food and drinks are well made and delicious. I especially love the red beetroot cashew milk latte with a cute latte art on top. The milk is thick with a layer of foam on top. The desserts, cookie and raw chocolate tart, are both delicious.

Pros: All vegan, Good food and service

Great concept, poor execution

The concept/atmosphere is great here. Warm staff, cute cat. However, the food is a bit lackluster.I dont mind less flavorful healthy food, but the curry and the burger were just bland... period. The only memorable item was the jackfruit nutmilk, which was indeed very tasty. I hope they continue to figure out the flavors of their main dishes... because i really want to love this place!

Delightful vegan café - Highly recommend!

Love this place. Everything is vegan! I've been back many times. My favourites were the "chicken" burger, falafel pitas, pumpkin soup, latte with homemade macadamia nut milk, matcha latte with homemade macadamia nut milk and “cheese”cake. I'm looking forward to coming back again soon. The staff are so nice and they take great care in making beautiful dishes (for example, check out my photo of the cheesecake with handpicked flower petals on top). They are quick, helpful and can speak English if you need. They always bend over backwards to make sure that we are enjoying ourselves. They source their food from local farmers and focus on organic. They also give us discounts on our bill because we bike to the restaurant, so be sure to bring your bike! Delighted to see a good vegan restaurant in the area.

Delicious Vegan food

Great food in a super cozy place. Try the Chickpea vegan hamburger with a soup and smoothie. The cookies for dessert top off the meal for a all around excellent place.

Great staff too whom are super nice!

Pros: Delicious Food. Try the Chickpea burger., Super nice staff, Small cozy restaurant.

Cons: Far away from center (but worth the MRT/taxi/bus!)

Wholesome plant-based cafe!

This plant-based whole food cafe with gluten-free options is a true gem. Service is friendly. Food is clean, fresh, delicious and beautiful. The space is cozy, quiet and animal-friendly. Would go here every time I visit Kaohsiung.

Pros: Local organic ingredients, Raw food, Great vibe

Cons: Small space so better to book a table ahead.

Pleasant, but not as brilliant as described.

First of all, the food is very good (smallish portions). Clear labelling, too. Food prep and even serving the drinks take a long time, but a lot of love goes into the preparations. Unfortunately, the descriptions are misleading. Ordered matcha au lait, supposedly with macadamia milk, came with almond milk. Tiny smoothie for 150 TWD. The "chickpea salad with bread" consisted of 4 rusks, a small glass of sweet porridge, a splash of jam, lettuce and 2 tablespoons of a quinoa-like salad (which might have been the chickpeas) - not at all what I expected. They do ask about allergies, at least. 800 TWD for 2 drinks, one soup and two mains. The farm-to-table approach is not consistent, since as per their info board, a lot of the organic ingredients are imported (e.g. almonds from the US). Friendly, English-speaking staff and English menu available. We were a little unpleasantly surprised when, minutes after (sic!) being seated, we were asked for a reservation, which we didn't have. We were then "allowed" to stay as another party was leaving. Funnily, half the seats remained empty throughout the afternoon - what was the off-putting fuss for? Altogether, very mixed feelings about this place.

Cons: expensive, inaccurate descriptions, food not as local as described

BRILLIANT PLACE

This place has everything; super tasty food and drinks (which is mostly locally produced), a nice interior and very friendly staff. For people like me, who needs English translation, the staff speaks English fluently (or at least when I have been there) and there is an English menu. Simply just perfect!

They also make the best espresso I had in ages.

Organic vegan food

The first time I went there, they didn't have any vegan food. Everything was sold out!
But I still went there a few times after that and their vegan food is good. I love their organic tea but I would say that their meals are nothing special. They recently also changed the menu, so now they don't serve any burgers. Their raw cheese cake was good but still frozen when I got it. I have eaten raw cake before but it was never frozen! So I didn't really like that. Their portions are very tiny!! For example before when I got a burger with fries and soup, the soup was really watery and I just got like 4 really tiny fries. If the fries would have an actual normal size I would say that they just gave me one haha!
The owners are really friendly though and if you have any questions you can ask them on Facebook (also in English), the staff in the restaurant doesn't speak English.

Pros: Friendly staff, Organic and healthy food

Cons: Tiny portions, Expensive, Boring menu
