Serves meat, vegan options available. Cafe located a few minutes walk from Togetsukyo bridge, against the backdrop of Mt. Arashiyama, around the corner from Arashiyama Hankyu station. Offers healthy Japanese lunch set plates and sweets, as well as a dinner menu. There is a local vegetable-based lunch set as well as a curry, a pasta and a taco rice set, all of which are vegan. The dinner set allows you to choose a main dish from a list, on which there are vegan options. The miso soup is vegan. There is an English menu, and the staff understand what "vegan ryori" is. From 3-5pm it's cafe only. Las orders 7pm. Open Mon 10:30am-6:00pm, Wed-Sun 10:30am-6:00pm.

Cakes are great, coffee less so - Edit
I ordered coffee and a couple of cakes, so my review does not cover the meals Musubi offers. The staff is very friendly and the location offers a much-needed reprieve from the tourist-infested area (Arashiyama) nearby. Some of the cakes are seasonal while others seemed fixed, and the two I ordered came with a little bit of vanilla ice cream and berries. The cakes are wonderful. I'm afraid the coffee wasn't that good and was also rather overpriced in my opinion.

Fantastic vegan/vegetarian options - Edit
Has plenty of vegan/vegetarian options that are delicious and healthier (less oil and salt). Has a daily special that comes with soup, salad, tea, and juice. They also have standard menu lunch combos including a curry, a spaghetti, and something else. We tried almost everything and it was all delicious! Highly recommend. They're desserts are great too!

Deserves five stars - Edit
This was a cute little spot with absolutely lovely staff! The menu is limited for options but if you’re looking for a solid lunch with tasty selections, then the lunch platter is perfect. They also do homemade ginger ale which was so good.
Read moreThis app doesn’t let you give five stars to places that aren’t fully vegan, but the food quality, quaint atmosphere, and wonderful staff/owners do deserve five stars.
FYI I walked here after the monkey park and I think there is a bakery that you’ll come across first with the same (or a similar) name. But just keep walking a little further and you’ll find this restaurant. Then, after lunch, if you keep walking in the same direction for a few more mins, the road will loop around and you can catch the #28 bus back to Kyoto Station (the fare is ¥230), so it’s actually quite a convenient little spot.

Hidden gem in Kyoto - Edit
Small place not far from bamboo Forrest and bridge.
Read moreI needed a place to eat and this is right across the street from the FuFu No Yo onsen, where I was heading anyway.
They have a special vegan lunch set but they offer other dishes on the menu as well and even vegan cakes. Prices are reasonable too.
Food was delicious and freshly prepared with lots of greens and not the typical fried food.
Very friendly staff and fast service.
Very small place so try to go early as possible.
Pros: Good vegan options , Friendly staff and fast service , Not expensive
Cons: Not many tables inside

Amazing food, great cakes & icecream sandwhich - Edit
Had a great visit to Musubi Cafe, great location near the Monkey Park and a nice place for a quiet meal on a hot day. We day the daily special set (Fried Tofu set) with 2 sides, miso soup, side salad and tea & the taco rice set (tofu taco mince with rice, salad, tea, juice. Both meals were delicious and service was fantastic. We got 2 cakes to go berry yoghurt cake, matcha cake and a strawberry and cream ice cream sandwhich. All of this only cost ¥5800 which was amazing value for how much we got, this late lunch ended up leaving us not needing any dinner. Highly recommend a visit if you are visiting the area!

Loved all the food! Great vegan options! The location is lovely and the staff are very friendly. We had to write our name down and wait for around 20 mins for a seat as it was very busy. Very much worth it!

Tasty curry - Edit
Cute spot, a bit away from the crowds, with delicious food. I had the dry veggie curry combo that tasted like a savory chili. Loved it. And the detox juice was sweet and refreshing.

Wonderful Vegan options - Edit
I ordered the sesame flavored sosoboro rice bowl. This was one of the specials for the day. The meal included a salad and vegan miso. I so enjoyed the brown rice! There are at least 4 other vegan options on the menu daily.

Great desserts! - Edit
Musubi Cafe is a good option if you are near Arashiyama, as there aren’t that many vegan places. All the desserts are vegan. The vegan lunch set was okay but a little small, and it was mostly rice and vegetables with no protein or anything. The dessert, a lemon cake, was really good.

Not to be confused with the Musubi Sweets Factory - Edit
Well, we were looking for the Musubi Sweets Factory because we wanted to check out (and support) a fully vegan business. But we wrongly thought the Musubi Cafe was the place, and came here instead, so silly us for not being more diligent.
Read moreHowever, the Musubi Cafe was nice so it was not all bad. We were there for snacks and had the soy yogurt smoothie and vegan cheesecake - both were very good. I'm not sure what else on the menu might have been vegan - only the cheesecake was labelled vegan but we were able to ascertain from the staff than the soy yogurt smoothie was vegan too. I'd have preferred the vegan options to be clearly marked on the menu.
After we left, we noticed a sign on the window advertising vegan ice cream sandwiches. They had sold out the day we went though.
Pros: soy yogurt smoothie, lovely staff, nice atmosphere

Amazing! - Edit
I got the Lunch A option that they had available that day. It was incredible. So nice to get a full vegan meal. The staff were all very friendly. I'd love to know the story behind all the trail and ultrarunning race bibs and finishing banners. As a trail and ultrarunner myself I was fascinated to find a Café promoting not only plant-based meals but also trail running. I was planning to ask the staff, but they got very busy just after I was finishing my meal.

Probably best option in Arashiyama - Edit
The restaurant is quite small but we easily found a table when we showed up at 11.30 AM on a weekday. Staff is friendly, but almost no English is spoken. Service was quite slow compared to othere places here in Japan.
Read moreThey have 3 vegan lunch sets as well as a daily changing lunch set for 1600 yen, either vegan (A) or with meat (B). It's actually quite good, I liked it. For dessert I had the fig and nuts tart for 610 yen. Please note that the figs are dried not fresh ones. I liked it!
Credit cards accepted, toilet available
Pros: 4 different lunch sets, About 12 different vegan tarts
Cons: Service was quite slow

Best meals and desserts we had in a month long trip in Japan - Edit
First time we went to Musubi Cafe we only did desserts and that's when we saw they also served savory meals.
Read moreAfter that we have been back 3 more times and just wished we had them closer ever since.
For a places that also serves meat and fish, their vegan options are out of this world good. The deep fried gluten and aged miso is one of my favourites meals like ever!
And all their desserts are vegan, and they are all mindblowingly good.
If the fig and tart is available, TRY IT!!
Plus the owner and chef was so kind and friendly and was truly moved to see us there so often but it is just too good!! It was always a very friendly atmosphere there.
Can't recommend enough, try it all, sweet and savory!
Pros: Food is amazing, Desserts are amazing, Owner was so lovely
Cons: That is not closer to the UK...

Good dessert - Edit
I went there when they opened but they said they didn’t serve lunch until 11:30. I decided to get a matcha latte and a strawberry ice cream dessert (I don’t remember what it was called). The matcha came with a little container of syrup but no amount syrup couldn’t made this matcha sweet. It was the most bitter matcha I’ve had lol. But the strawberry dessert was really good.
