Love this place! - Edit
I come to Munch frequently and always bring guests when they're here from out of town. I LOVE munch! It's a small business and often is busy, so you have to be patient, but the staff are always super friendly and accommodating. To my knowledge, everything is vegan as written on the menu but you can add some dairy products like cheese and sour cream. I always get the gyro and dream about it for days! The nachos are also great. My dining partners greatly enjoyed the lasagna, stuffed peppers and both the burritos on the menu. Save room for a shake if you can - so good!

Worse Vegan establishment - Edit
Zero stars! Not customer friendly (just for mentioning my order was wrong and that the dish I was brought did not smell right) hostile, poor service, QUESTIONABLE FOOD HANDLING AND STORAGE . Not worth the $ or possibility of a sickness.
Read moreFood is clearly microwaved but they will say otherwise - I was swatting gnats/fruit flies most of the time I was there( that should have been enough to leave, smh)
I've also come to learn that this place purposely seeks undocumented people to employ and end up withholding their wages. I was told by an employee that the kitchen staff does not hold their IL food handlers/Sanitation license & how the owners hold the undocumented employees legal status as leverage to short their checks or worse extend an "IOU" that can last weeks. Absolute trash, throw the whole establishment away!

Pros: Looked inviting , I didn't eat a gnat, I survived food poisoning

Too much information for someone who’s just a customer!

I'd never work for such an establishment! @lowlow to much time on your hand to respond to a post warning other to not get sick... My hate comes from salmonella and from people who abuse others undocumented status. It's not my issue that THEIR employee shared this information with me. You should be just as disgusted as I am and how many others are. You're probably the one not paying them hiding behind this comment. 🗑️ 🗑️ Good day.

So delicious! - Edit
I’ve loved everything I’ve had here. Salads speak for themselves. Lasagna is a great comfort food. I tried the gyro not expecting much as I never liked them back in the bad old days of eating animals, but it always gets such great reviews. For a reason! It’s incredible. There are a few more menu items I’d really like to try, but so far, everything has been delicious. I doubt one could go wrong.
Read moreBeware that they only take cash, although there’s an ATM inside. Also, it is a bit pricey, but I’m happy to pay a little extra each meal to support this amazing place! #Veganuary

I just moved to oak park and it’s awesome to have an all-vegan place within a mile! I had the gyro and creamy cabbage soup-both were delicious! I also took a rice crispie treat for later, & it was fantastic! I will definitely be back!

Better than expected - Edit
I came for dinner on a Saturday evening, it was crowded but not noisy. Service was friendly and not rushed. Turns out is cash only but I had cash. I came for a burger and they had a beet burger or a black bean burger. I got the beet burger which had a dill tzatziki sauce, delightful on its own but not enough to give enough spice and flavor so overall the burger was a bit bland. The side dish, lentil soup, was amazing, as was the vanilla shake. So overall I was very happy and fulfilled.

My go-to - Edit
Love this food. It’s what I would make for myself if I had the time. Beet burger salad is my fav, hubs loves the vegan gyro. Mashed sweet potato I’d delicious. Only thing we’ve ever been disappointed by are the nachos, which are nothing special. If you get take out, make sure to check your bag before you drive away; They are a little spacey over there and sometimes leave out a side or something. Don’t let that dissuade you, though—food is excellent and fairly priced.

Not impressed - Edit
Drove 40 minutes to try this place out. The wasn't really clear on what was vegan and what could be made vegan. The buns have egg in them. I had the gyro which was good and had potatoes as a side and they were way undercooked and hard hence the 3 star review. $14 for a gyro and undercooked potatoes.

Most of the food is just okay - Edit
I've dined at Munch a handful of times in the past 3 years. Overall, the food is underwhelming, but the brownies are amazing. Some of the dishes just taste odd. For example, the base for their tzatziki sauce is pure mayo, which just ruins their vegan gyro. The food is often under or over cooked. Overall, it's just more expensive than it should be for what they offer. They could be great if they continued to perfect their recipes; until then I'll head to the Chicago Diner.

Hidden Gem - Edit
Adorable place, great staff and of coarse, vegan friendly! I ordered the gyros plate which was the special of the day (not on menu) and recommended by my waitress. I was not disappointed. I have not had a gyros since I happily decided to go vegan🌱💚 (7 1/2 years now) and it was love at first bite. It resembled the taste and texture of the gyros I use to crave. Many people have asked how can I enjoy something that resembles animal meat...understand that I grew up eating, craving and enjoying meat. That was until I saw a horrific and brutal video that devastated me and had me crying for days. I told myself that I will never eat meat again. But finding vegan meats that resembles meat made the transition easy. And that gyros was pure SATISFACTION. Unfortunately, they only serve it the 1st of every month.😿

My girlfriend and I ordered the Vegan BLT as well as the Vegan Special which was a Vegan Pulled Pork Sandwich with a side of coleslaw and vegan fries. Overall the food was really good, but for desert we ordered the Brownie Melt which was disappointing the brownie was on the dry side and barely warm.

When I’m in Chicago, I like visiting Oak Park, famous for Hemingway and Frank Lloyd Wright, and going to the Munch restaurant for lunch or dinner. The portions are ample; the preparation and presentation superb. This is a small and cozy restaurant with friendly staff. The prices are very reasonable though you better bring cash or be prepared to use their ATM because they only accept cash.

Small place, Huge portions - Edit
Visiting family in the suburbs and saw great reviews for this restaurant. It is a smaller establishment, but they have a ton of brunch options! The portion sizes are huge! The chocolate chip pancakes we're a hit with the kids. I had the power bow, which was more than I could eat in one seating. I also sampled the cornmeal pancakes which were phenomenal. We got some desserts to go. The cake balls were very popular. I still have yet to eat my brownie. Wonderful experience.
