Busy cafe on waterfront - Edit
Popular with visitors & locals. Small menu with a few items that can be adapted to vegan, clearly marked. Had falafel bowl, which was tasty, but standard food.

Healthy, friendly and yummy - Edit
Travelled to Whanganui on our trip around the North Island, stumbled into this cafe as I saw there were vegan options. Really lovely cafe, friendly staff and overall a great experience! There was a market next door, so the cafe had a great atmosphere. I saw there was vegan cakes too, but I didn't try those. Would recommend!
Read moreI'd say the main thing the cafe could do is replace the eggs and halloumi with something as well as just beans - maybe scrambled tofu or something? The beans were still great though, and we left feeling satisfied!
Pros: Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, Healthy, nutritious, Good portion size
Cons: A bit expensive for what it was, More than just beans would have been great

We were running late so phoned ahead, they sounded welcoming and helpful. The cafe itself is in a lovely location by the river and some art galleries and a novelty tram line. Nice decor inside. Lots of people eating there - always a good sign. The server was very friendly and helpful, got the impression vegans were very welcome despite it not being a veg cafe. We had the vegan burger - white bread burger bun, falafel, rosti, beetroot relish, roasted field mushroom, heap of green salad leaves. You can order chips/french fries on the side - however we asked they cook chicken in the same fat so not vegan. Unfortunately the really tasty looking muffins were dairy free but not egg free. The soup of the day was Thai pumpkin - which was vegan. We didn't try it but it shows there's vegan options.

Decent enough - Edit
You have to ask staff what the vegan options are. When we visited it was thai green curry, thai kumara soup, kumara salad and smashed greens on toast. Curry was OK, nothing special.

Passing through wanganui on the weekend I stopped in at mud ducks to grab a coffee. Although I was not hungry in the slightest, I couldn't resist the vegan caramel slice in the cabinet. Delicious! I only wish I had more time in wanganui to enjoy a sit down meal and try some of the vegan options on the menu. I'll definitely be popping in next time.

A couple of nice meals eaten here.... - Edit
We went here for lunch & returned the next morning for breakfast. Mud Ducks is the only cafe we've seen in Whanganui offering labelled vegan menu options.
Read moreI didn't see any vegan options offered in the cabinet food on either visit but the menu clearly states what is vegan / vegetarian & the staff were helpful & knowledgeable on what can or can't be altered to vegan.
I had the vege Thai green curry for lunch which was very nice. A good sized portion with good flavours.
For breakfast I had the Veggie Breakfast which was also very good. The only thing I think it was missing was some toast.
Also, good coffee on both visits.
A vibrant cafe with quality food. Worth checking it out.
Pros: Some nice vegan options on both menus., A clean, popular cafe with friendly staff., Reasonable prices for good quality food.
Cons: Didn't see any vegan cabinet food options
