Went with my friend and we got the Grasshopper Pie and Blueberry Basil Sorbet. Both were very delicious, and we got them in cones. We asked explicitly if the cones are vegan and the workers confirmed they are. Their flavors are very creative and unique.
When I visited they had 4 or 5 vegan options! All of them were fruity, so there was no chocolate or vanilla. I had the “brambleberry” which was a blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry oat ice cream and it was delicious. Only downside is that one scoop cost me over $7, but hey, I’ll pay for the opportunity to eat vegan ice cream.
Had the blueberry vegan choice. Staff had a hard time standing it on a cone, so I got it in a cup with cone top.
Very tasty and went down fast. Line was not too bad and friendly service.
There were 4 vegan options when I visited: honeydew sorbet, nectarine prosecco sorbet, banana (oat based), and caramelized pear (oat based). The caramelized pear was super tasty and creamy. The quality was basically comparable to some artisan ice cream places that I've visited in big cities. I'd definitely visit again!
They had two vegan options. Staff was super friendly and helpful. We had the oat based cookies and cream and the grasshopper pie (mint chocolate and Oreos). Very good handmade small batch ice cream, chill atmosphere, nice people.
I liked the atmosphere, and the line wasn't too long. Staff was really cool, too. There were a few options for vegans, but a lot of them were sold out. I got a sorbet, and it was alright. I think the other options on Mount Desert Island are better.
The day we stopped by they only had sorbet for the non-dairy flavors. They were interesting flavors and I tried a couple that were pretty good. But disappointed it was only sorbets.
Better quality but less choices than others in Bar Harbor - Edit
This was the third ice cream place in Bar Harbor that we tried dairy free ice cream (Closed on Mondays). Staff were all smiling, helpful and kept the line moving. Several interesting dairy free options, though all but one of the dairy free options were sorbets. If you are in the mood for sorbets, this could be your place. However, if you are looking for creamy nondairy ice cream, this was limited to one flavor, though it was VERY delicious. We had the Grasshopper
Pie flavor vegan ice cream, which was creamy, chocolate ice cream with a light mint flavor (not too minty…just the right amount) with a generous amount of chocolate chunks throughout. While this was the only flavor choice on the day we were there, we would definitely choose this vegan ice cream for quality, creaminess and taste over the 7 other flavors of non dairy ice cream we tried at the other two shoppes. There was a really interesting flavor of sorbet I might have ordered, but they do not provide sample tastes here. Closed on Mondays.
There are going to be 3 options available, and when we got there only 2 were in stock. The choices are boring, with the exception of the sour cherry sorbet which was interesting.
I loved the cereal milk vegan ice cream (made with cashews) which tasted like captain crunch. I got it in a waffle cone. I also got a scoop of the blueberry basil sorbet which was yummy too.
The ice cream was delicious, and I had one of the most unique flavors i’ve ever tried. Kulfa, based on an indian sweet treat of the same name, was a cashew based pistachio ice cream with cardamom and hints of saffron. Very bold flavors. They also had a ‘cereal milk’ flavored ice cream and a few cool sounding sorbet options. Worth checking out if you like unique ice cream!
Mount desert island ice cream is my favorite place for frozen treats in Bar Harbor. Both locations are excellent, however, this spot closer to the harbor is slightly larger. They usually have four or so varieties of sorbet, and the flavors are unique and exciting. They vary depending on the ingredients available any given time of the year. It is a little off the Main Street, so MDI ice cream is usually not as crowded as some of the other ice cream spots in town.
They had 4 vegan options when we visited. Fudgsicle, Peanut Butter, and 2 fruit sorbets. I got peanut butter while my husband got fudgsicle. They were both awesome! We tried to go again today but they were closed. The fudgsicle and peanut butter stated that they were made from almond and coconut base.
