Good food and plenty of it - Edit
June '24
Read moreFirst visit since MSB relocated from the original venue. The food is still good and plentiful but this new space is really missing the buzz and atmosphere of the original MSB.
For a Saturday night, it was quiet and I expected we'd be rushed out for the 2nd service but that wasn't the case. Perhaps it's the winter chill keeping people at home.
The price is considerably higher now at $48 per person, easily an extra $20 pp more than my last visit. In saying that, there was a LOT of food and we were able to take out what we couldn't eat.
.....
So many delicious courses to sample! You will not leave hungry as servings are plentiful and a flavour sensation.
Great Vegan options including desserts.
Quick, friendly service.
Be sure to book as this establishment is always busy and buzzing!

Excellent! - Edit
Been coming here for years. The bomb is the chickpea yoghurt dish (can be made vegan) with the crispy pita bread on top. Recommend the banquet if you come and just let the server know your dietary requirements. The owner is super friendly and accommodating. I think she has done quite a bit for social justice, women and acceptance of people from different cultures.

Love this place! - Edit
I love this social entreprise & Melbourne institution! There’s no menu, you just get a pre-set 3 course meal with lots of food. Most of it is vegan, you just have to let them know so they adapt the dessert & chickpea bake (which was delicious). It’s also very affordable & the staff are friendly. Highly recommended!

Has gone downhill - Edit
Used to love Moroccan Soup Bar in Fitzroy. The quality isn’t the same since it had the 2nd location and now it’s moved to Kensington there is no ambience, the food was served cold and bland. Definitely not a place I’d recommend to my omni friends anymore.

Served dairy to vegans - Edit
Our group consisted of vegans and non-vegans but we all got the vegan banquet to share.
Read moreThe first course was fine, but the mains and desserts served were not vegan, and this was only confirmed after the main had ALREADY been eaten when the dessert arrived.
Vegan desserts were then given out, but no other apologies were made.
Pros: Food was tasty
Cons: Served non-vegan food to vegans

That’s a sh*ty experience. See my recent review about being served dairy in a non-vegan restaurant.

The flavours! - Edit
Hooray they are now in my 10km limit which is great. We got the vegan dinner pack and bake. And also one with the dips. The flavours worked really well and it was very very filling.

Absolutely stellar - Edit
For anyone who has been to Maha restaurant, this is essentially an arguably equal, much cheaper version.
Read moreFor roughly $30, you get treated to up to 14 different mini dishes of sublime taste, all different enough to value each separately. The food is top notch. Only complaints are that the service is busy, you are expected to eat within the hour, and the restaurant is quite cramped and noisy, but the vibe is amazing.
Pros: variety, taste
Cons: cramped, time limit

Awesome Moroccan food and with awesome service - Edit
When you order just tell them you are vegan and tell them to bring whatever. You will have one of the best authentic meals out. For like $20/$30 you will be happily stuffed. Remember to bring take away containers to take home leftovers. Love the food, love the people and love the story. This place isn’t only about food, it’s about community, love and compassion.

Yummy dinner spot - Edit
I went here for dinner and they were able to serve us an entirely vegan meal (they have a set menu) and it was all delicious. They seem to have two shifts for meals which meant we felt a bit rushed with waiters wanting to collect our plates before we'd finished eating and being told our time was up at 7:30 (we'd been seated at 6). I suppose it's inevitable but it did detract a bit from the experience, when I go next time I'll know to eat more efficiently!

the best thing to order there - Edit
Okay, if you are not vegan - get the chickpea dish - best thing on the menu and one of my favourite dishes of all time. Chickpeas, yoghurt, almonds, bread ( I think cooked in butter) so nice.
Read moreI think they only take bookings for larger groups and you often have to wait for a table (elsewhere - no spare room here). Often shut during school holidays.
Casual no fuss and very tasty.
