It's fine

Like others have said, it's just ok. If you've had great vegan sushi just don't expect that. This is generic bottom shelf stuff. It's perfectly edible, just nothing to brag about.

Passable Sushi, SLOW Service

Mobo has a few vegan friendly sushi rolls that I've tried in the past.

Their Emerald City Roll ($7) contains avocado, daikon, shiitake, carrots, and black sesame. This vegan roll was FIRE and much tastier than any other roll you could get there. I've also gotten other ones such as their Macadamia Rolls, which were also good.

The issue is that their service has gone down a lot in recent times. We've always waited very long to be served, and this last time, we got up and left after 20 minutes of nobody coming around to us.

I understand it may be short-staffed but there's a point when waiting is no longer worthwhile - and it would have been better to be denied seating than to be seated and wait so long for nothing.

Pros: Decent vegan sushi options

Cons: Extremely slow service

Literally our favorite lunch spot in SC.

We love the many clearly marked vegan items. The pickle plate, broccoli, noodles with sesame sauce, seaweed salad for starters, then such a variety of rolls to choose from, including a build your own option and chefs choice, that always taste amazing and looks like a dragon. There is a full bar, too (although you have to know what’s actually vegan if you are very strict). Sure there isn’t brown rice, but it’s imaginative and delicious.

Boring menu

I am struggling to find much good to say, the rolls I had weren't very tasty. There were 8 rolls per item, so maybe a group of people ordering a larger selection would fare better.

Pros: Some vegan options

Cons: Not good for a solo diner

Yes!!! 5 stars in my book!

This place was great! Would’ve given 5 stars but the app won’t let me simply because they aren’t fully vegan. (I disagree with this rule btw) Plenty of options on the menu and they are labeled with a V and a circle. The two ladies at the front were very helpful in choosing something super yummy and the sushi chef even came by to let me know that a certain ginger sauce was vegan as well. I went with their recommendations and could not have been happier. I travel a ton for work and to find such nice people and good vegan food can be difficult. But it was so good last night, I think I’m gonna go back again tonight!

Great yet no brown rice

I think Mobo's is great, but not
if you are looking for truly healthy sushi. Many rolls have a lot of sauce, deep fried/tempura ingredients and the most baffling component is that is offers no brown rice!

That being said, it is a beloved downtown institution. just not
for me.

Pros: variety

Cons: no brown rice

Great if its the kind of food you like!

I'm not a picky eater, but I don't like weird things in my sushi (Ex. broccoli). As a vegan, I really only was interested in the inari since all the other rolls I've tried there ended up tasting just way too weird for me. The inari is NOT normal- they put carrots and such in it... Not a fan. At all.
For a veg/an who likes strange food, this place would be perfect.
Also, its a perfect date scene.
Personally, I love Pink Godzilla for vegan sushi!

Pros: Organic, Friendly staff, Large menu

Cons: Strange veg/an food

Great veg sushi!

I was really sad that I wouldn't get to eat decent Japanese food after going veg, but Mobo changed that. They have a huge menu with a lot of great, creative vegan rolls and appetizers. The vegan rolls are much cheaper than all of the others AND they are not boring! Great flavor combinations, and the vegan tazuna (chef's choice) is always interesting and yummy. I also love their broccoli and spinach oshitashi. Added bonus- last time I was there the owner lined up about 50 sake bombs on the bar and gave one to everyone in the restaurant over 21.

Pros: affordable, healthy choices, friendly owner

Cons: quality of service varies, cocktails aren't great
